Berniece L. Ekhoff
TRIBUNE -- Funeral for Berniece L. Ekhoff, 83, will be 10:30 a.m. MDT Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Susan Charest Wickiser officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.
Mrs. Ekhoff died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
She was born Sept. 10, 1916, at Syracuse, Neb., the daughter of Henry William and Flora Stella (Gecha) Seba.
A Greeley County resident since 1940, she was a dietitian at Helmwood Care Home in Tribune for many years. She was a member of the former St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tribune.
On March 4, 1932, she married Walter F. Ekhoff at Larned. He died June 21, 1979, at Tribune. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by four sons, Nels, Berthoud, Colo., Neil, Loveland, Colo., Nate, Scott City, and Niles, Tribune; two daughters, Ione Hughan, Shelton, Neb., and Dawn West, Yorktown, Va.; a brother, Elmer Becker, Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Leona Martin, Tribune, and Gladys Ruby, Leoti; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune. Memorials to the Berniece Ekhoff Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Cicely Cone Beach
Cicely Cone Beach, 92, of Nashville, Tenn., died Sunday, April 9, 2000.
Born at Garden City on Sept. 10, 1907, she was the daughter of Roy Spencer and Gertrude (Burtis) Cone and the granddaughter of A.H. Burtis and Squire Worrell, both early 1880s pioneers in Garden City.
She attended Ward Belmont School in Tennessee and graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in economics.
She returned to Nashville in 1951 with her husband, Leonard Beach, who was Dean of Graduate School, Vanderbilt University, and later was Dean of Institutional Relations. They were married for 56 years. He died in 1993. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Spencer Cone.
Survivors include three daughters, Anne Beach Was, Nashville, Beatrice Beach Madden, Denver, and Carol Beach Feitel, Spartanburg, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Glen B. Wilkerson
MANTER -- Glen B. Wilkerson, 81, formerly of Manter, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born April 23, 1919, at Stafford, the son of Clyde and Flora Mae Wilkerson.
A farm laborer in Stanton County most of his life before retiring, he moved to Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City in 1999.
On July 3, 1938, he married Hazel VonHemel. She died Jan. 12, 1996. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, four brothers and one sister.
Survivors are two sons, Darrel Wilkerson and Gary Wilkerson, both of Kansas; a daughter, Maxine Malone, Oregon; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Wilkerson and Chester Wilkerson, both of Louisiana; and a sister, Velda Stolebarger, Colorado.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Manter, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.
Terry Spangler
Terry Spangler, 51, a former Garden City resident, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Fort Collins, Colo.
Born March 4, 1949, at Garden City, he was the son of Ronald and Ruth (Borgman) Spangler. He graduated from Holcomb schools and received an elementary certificate from Wichita State University.
He married Linda Staley. They moved to Fort Collins, where he taught fourth grade at Bennett Elementary School for 28 years. He had been nominated for Colorado Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Spangler had a love for the Lord and his family, and a passion for all his students, fellow teachers and friends. He enjoyed basketball, golf and fishing with his dad. His pastime was flower gardening.
Survivors are his mother, Garden City; his father, Denver; a son, Brock Spangler, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; a daughter, Mandy Spangler, Denver; a grandson; a sister, Cheryl Kells, Garden City; three brothers, Mark Spangler, Wichita, Monty Spangler, Holcomb, and Gary Spangler, Garden City; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Faith Evangelical Free Church, Fort Collins, with the Rev. Larry Bulla officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Fort Collins.
Viewing hours are until 6 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, with visitation from 6 to 7 tonight at Warren-Bohlender Funeral Chapel, Fort Collins.

Noah Nichols
MONTEZUMA -- Noah Nichols, 89, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma. He moved into the Bethel Home apartments in January 1997.
He was born Nov. 1, 1910, at Tampa, the son of Cornelius P. and Lizzie (Dirks) Nichols.
A resident of the Copeland area since 1931, moving from Greensburg, he was a farmer and a member of Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland.
On Oct. 23, 1932, he married Frances Koehn at Copeland. She survives. Other survivors are eight sons, Manford Nichols, Sublette, Howard Nichols, Ulysses, Milton Nichols, Elkton, S.D., Clayton Nichols and Wilferd Nichols, both of Copeland, Chester Nichols and Lester Nichols, both of Garden City, and Milferd Nichols, Dalhart, Texas; two daughters, Valette Koehn, Sublette, and Velda Wadel, Greensburg; a brother, Johnny Nichols, Macon, Miss.; three sisters, Frances Jantz, Greensburg, Leah Unruh, Montezuma, and Esther Wedel, Brooksville, Miss.; 34 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Weibe; four brothers, Jesse Nichols, Franklin Nichols, Menno Nichols and Abe Nichols; and five sisters, Katie Koehn, Sophie Nichols, Minnie Koehn, Clara Koehn and Susie Unruh.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland. Sam Unruh Jr., Roy Koehn and Milton Unruh, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc. or the Lockport Ambulance Fund, both in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
Sherman Baird Jr.
Sherman Baird Jr., 75, a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 13, 1924, at Dodge City, the son of Sherman Sr. and Mae (Moore) Baird. He grew up in Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City Senior High School.
Mr. Baird served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Canyon, Texas, and a member of St. James Lutheran Church, the American Legion, Elks Lodge and Rotary Club, all at Garden City.
On May 5, 1946, he married Carola Spaniol at Dodge City. They moved to Garden City in 1963, where he worked for the Garden City Co-Operative Exchange as a grain manager, retiring in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Hugoton; two daughters, Leslie Wagner, Holcomb, and Monte Wise, Canyon; a sister, Velda Hughes, Dodge City; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with the Rev. Kent Crockett officiating. Eulogist will be Harley Foulks.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Crown of Texas Hospice, 1000 S. Jefferson, Amarillo, TX 79101.
George W. Trabert
DIGHTON -- Vigil service for George W. Trabert, 79, of Dodge City, will be 7 tonight at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City. The Rev. John Strasser will officiate.
Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 190, Dighton.
Mr. Trabert died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Central, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born April 1, 1921, at Jerome, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Grabe) Trabert.
On Jan. 15, 1947, he married Alma G. Cartmill at Garden City. They lived in Alamota for eight years, in Missouri for three years, and then moved to Litchfield, Neb., where they lived for 22 years before moving to Dodge City in 1980. She died Dec. 24, 1988.
Mr. Trabert had worked as a rancher all his life. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European Theater as a heavy equipment operator.
Mr. Trabert was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Howard Gotschall Post No. 1714 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dodge City Roundup and the Knights of Columbus, all at Dodge City, the American Legion at Dighton and the American Quarterhorse Association.
He is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Berger, Wichita, and Lucy Hubbard, Barstow, Calif.; two brothers, Carl Trabert, Woodbury, Tenn., and John H. Trabert, Meade; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Our Lady Of Guadalupe Cathedral Building Fund, in care of the funeral home.
