Earlene F. Williamson
Johnson CITY -- Earlene F. Williamson, 59, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.
She was born Jan. 24, 1941, at Lavern, Okla., to James Earl and Dollie Viola (Hannigan) Nairn, and grew up in Syracuse.
A resident of Johnson City since 1975, she was a certified Bob Ross Painting instructor, charted family genealogies, and worked for 18 years as a bookkeeper for the Baily Estate.
On Aug. 16, 1970, she married John Williamson at Johnson City. He survives. Other survivors are a son, Rick Williamson, Johnson City; three daughters, Shari LaFawn King, of Eskridge, Robin LaVonda Heckel, Ulysses, and Joni Michelle Hale, Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, Joe Nairn, Syracuse, and Archie L. Nairn, Johnson City; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harley Nairn.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City, with the Rev. Bob Warner officiating.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City. Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Hospice Organization, in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.
Helen E. Patton
SCOTT CITY -- Helen E. Patton, 84, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
She was born April 20, 1916, at Virginia, Minn., the daughter of Gust and Anna (Datsakis) Canelake.
A Garden City resident before moving to Scott City in 1964, she worked as a nurse's aide at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City for more than 20 years.
While working at the hospital, she met Fred Patton when he was in the hospital. They were married Aug. 29, 1964, at Garden City. She then began working at Scott County Hospital, retiring 15 years later. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, L. Dean Angeles, New Orleans; a brother, John Canelake, Virginia, Minn.; a sister, Estelle Bovis, Tampa, Fla.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Ann Holden; and a son, Terry S. Angeles.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Don Martin officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church, in care of the funeral home.
Albertine 'Abbey' Morgan
Graveside service for Albertine "Abbey" Morgan, 92, of 1505 E. Spruce St., will be 10 a.m. Thursday in LaCrosse Cemetery, LaCrosse. Deacon Harry Bohannon will officiate.
Mrs. Morgan died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Sept. 17, 1906, at LaCrosse, the daughter of Herbert Thomas and Lillian Mable (Johnson) Mosher. She grew up in LaCrosse and attended schools there before moving to Wichita where she attended high school and business college.
On Feb. 19, 1939, she married Dale Vaughn Morgan at Ponca City, Okla. They moved from LaCrosse to Garden City in 1939. He died May 30, 1967. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Mosher.
Mrs. Morgan had worked as a secretary for a short time while living in Wichita and had worked as a volunteer at St. Catherine Hospital for many years. A homemaker, she was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Garden City Country Club and enjoyed golfing.
She is survived by two nieces, Billie Bea Bohannon, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Jane Childers, Denver.
Visitation hours are from 6 to 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the donor's choice may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Therese J. Cruz
Therese J. Cruz, 61, of Garden City, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Wichita, after a chronic illness.
She was born April 5, 1939, at Lakeside, Ariz., the daughter of Erasmo Sr. and Avaloy Jaramillo. She grew up in St. Johns, Ariz.
Mrs. Cruz had lived in Garden City for more than 12 years.
She is survived by seven brothers and sisters, and her mother, all of Arizona; three children, Dominic Lopez, Matt Jaramillo and Therese Cruz, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Garden City; and her husband of 29 years, Jose Cruz of Garden City.
Funeral took place in St. Johns, where she was buried next to her father. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Crystal Lee Valenzuela.
St. Jewkes Mortuary, St. Johns, was in charge of arrangements.
Emilio Joe Arellano
Vigil service for Emilio Joe Arellano, 84, will be 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Arellano died Monday, May 15, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born March 6, 1916, at Garden City, the son of Jose and Dolores (Fierra) Arellano, and attended Garden City schools.
A lifetime Garden City resident, he worked for Fansler Tire Co. for 36 years, then worked for 12 years at Palmer Tank Manufacturing. He enjoyed listening to music, playing bingo, skating, dancing and being with his grandchildren.
Mr. Arellano was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a former member of the Latin America Club, G.I. Forum and Knights of Columbus.
On Aug. 15, 1939, he married Andrea Hernandez at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Robert Arellano and John Arellano, both of Garden City; five daughters, Patricia DeLaRosa, Vickie Marroquin and Mary Martinez, all of Garden City, Midge Encinias, Holcomb, and Dolores Gonzalez, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Carmen Godinez, Garden City; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Arellano; and two sisters, Connie Godinez and Jane Mendoza.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
Verda Lee Thomas
Funeral for Verda Lee Thomas, 72, will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.
Mrs. Thomas died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Aug. 21, 1927, at Kiowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Minnie (Carey) Berry. She attended Northwest Oklahoma College in Alva, Okla., where she received her teaching certificate.
On May 5, 1946, she married Milton N. Thomas at Medicine Lodge. They were co-owners of the Silver Horseshoe Western Wear in Garden City in the 1970s.
A Garden City resident since 1960, moving from Cimarron, Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Daughters of American Revolution, Builders Sunday School class and the United Methodist Women and was past matron of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Bonita McClure, Dodge City, and Millie Norman, Garden City; a sister, Dee Wills, Wichita; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Thomas.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Daughters of American Revolution, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Mario Alberto Ruiz
Vigil service for Mario Alberto Ruiz, 18, of 510 Burnside Drive No. 27A, will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by Spanish rosary. Funeral and burial will take place later in Durango, Mexico.
Mr. Ruiz died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Hodgeman County.
He was born Oct. 15, 1981, at Durango, the son of Miguel Ruiz Barrera and Graciela Francisca Torres.
A Garden City resident since August 1994, moving from Durango, he was a junior at Garden City High School. He played in the band, "Los Aguerrido," and attended St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing in bands, music, playing soccer, basketball, and spending time with his brothers and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Durango; three brothers, Martin Ruiz, Carlos Manuel Ruiz and Jose Miguel Ruiz, all of Garden City; and his grandmother, Andrea Torres, Durango. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
Visitation hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Mario Alberto Ruiz Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
