Marie Chestine Miller
HUGOTON -- Marie Chestine Miller, 93, of Lakewood, Colo., died Monday, April 3, 2000, at the Glen Ayr Health Care Center in Lakewood.
Born Aug. 23, 1906, at Fargo, Okla., she was the daughter of George and Anna (Johnson) Long. A homemaker, she had lived in Lakewood since 1981.
She married Arden Snyder in 1930. On May 26, 1937, she married Melvin W. Miller at Liberal. They both preceded her in death as did a son, Danny D. Snyder; a brother; and a sister. She is survived by a daughter, Joan Miller of Golden, Colo.
Private family graveside service will take place in Hugoton Cemetery.

Merton F. Goodman
Merton F. Goodman, 73, of Hays, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus.
He was born April 19, 1926, at Clayton, the son of Fay B. and Ida M. (Gallentine) Goodman.
A farmer and carpenter, he had lived in Hays since 1972, moving from Norton. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the Clayton Church and Hays American Legion.
On March 3, 1946, he married Dorothy D. Davis at Oberlin. She survives. Other survivors are a son, Merton Lynn Goodman, Scott City; five daughters, Linda Sulzman, Hays, Marcia Stapp, Holcomb, Xandra Waggoner, Morland, Tina Purdue, Nitro, W.Va., and Kendra Fager, Russell; a sister, Merrice Brooks, Norton; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two granddaughters.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Clayton Cemetery, with the Rev. Dale Thiele officiating. Cremation has taken place. Memorials to the Merton Lynn Goodman Rehab Fund may be sent in care of Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd St., Hays, KS 67601.
Susie E. Ausbun
HUGOTON -- Susie E. Ausbun, 93, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton, following a short illness.
She was born Dec. 21, 1906, at Columbus, the daughter of William R. and Emma (Burrows) Nicholes. In 1907, the family moved to Stevens County, where her parents homesteaded southwest of Hugoton. She attended grade school at Campaign Country School in southwest Stevens County and attended high school at Hugoton.
On Aug. 8, 1923, she married James H. Ausbun at her father's home in Stevens County. After her marriage, she worked for many years in the old dime store on Main Street as well as driving a school bus. Later she served as secretary of the Stevens County Museum and the Hugoton Chamber of Commerce for many years.
Mrs. Ausbun was active in the First Church of God, where she served as Sunday School superintendent for a great number of years as well as teacher of the adult Bible class.
Her husband died May 25, 1981. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Robert M. Ausbun; a son, James H. Ausbun Jr.; a daughter, Verla G. Seemann; four granddaughters; two brothers, Chester Nicholes and Charlie Nicholes; and two sisters, Anna Ausbun and Mollie Mantzke.
She is survived by two sons, Harold W. Ausbun, Lamar, Colo., and Gary W. Ausbun, Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Freda A. Gustafson and Shirley K. Kramer, both of Hugoton; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Church of God, Hugoton, with her sons, the Revs. Gary W. Ausbun and Harold W. Ausbun, officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.
Ida Marie Spence
Ida Marie Spence, 71, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
Born June 1, 1928, at Kelly, N.M., to Florentino and Virginia (Garcia) Triana, she was raised in Magdalena, N.M.
On Sept. 21, 1949, she married James Reuben Spence at Socorro, N.M. They lived in several locations while he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. They retired to Arkansas.
Her husband died Jan. 2, 1979. She then moved to Garden City where she was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Parra; and three brothers, John Triana, Pat Triana and Max Triana.
She is survived by six sons, Ray Hidalgo and James Spence, both of Garden City, Larry Spence, Colorado Springs, Colo., Eugene Spence, Pueblo, Colo., John Spence, Lubbock, Texas, and Christopher Spence, Conway, Ark.; four daughters, Grace Gonzales, Las Vegas, N.M., Sylvia Kowalke, Spring, Texas, Melinda Spence, Independence, Mo., and Patricia Herrera, Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Martin Triana, Albuquerque; six sisters, Helen Turull, Anza, Calif., Carmen Marquez, Carson City, Calif., Carol Rose, Albuquerque, Eloise Brown, Las Vegas, N.M., Geneva Carter, Longview, Texas, and Reina Coston, Phoenix; 26 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will take place Wednesday in Morrilton, Ark. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery
in Center Ridge, Ark.

Ruth Stanley Tillett
ULYSSES -- Funeral for Ruth Stanley Tillett, 98, of Wichita and formerly of Ulysses, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Church of Christ, Ulysses. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
Mrs. Tillett died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Terrace Gardens in Wichita.
She was born April 7, 1902, at Horse Cave, Ky., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Woodward.
In December 1922, she married Chet Tillett at Boise City, Okla. They moved from Rolla to Ulysses. Mrs. Tillett taught at Pioneer School in rural Ulysses for several years, was the county treasurer in Ulysses from 1945 to 1967, and was a member of Church of Christ. Her hobbies were playing pinochle with the pinochle club.
She is survived by a son, Cliff Tillett, Augusta; a daughter, Billye MacKinnon, Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Jack Woodward, Ponca City, Okla.; a sister, Winnie Macklin, Wichita; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, who died Jan. 24, 1986, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Woodward and Roger Woodward; and two sisters, Elizabeth Woodward, and Edyth Woodward.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses, and from 10:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Karen Kay Yount
SUBLETTE -- Karen Kay Yount, 56, of Monahans, Texas, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Texas.
She was born Aug. 21, 1943, at Sublette. A resident of Monahans since 1992, she was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church of Monahans.
Survivors include her husband, Dean Yount, Monahans; two sons, Kenneth Yount, Midland, Texas, and David Yount, Odessa, Texas; her mother, Nina Birney, Sublette; two sisters, Marilyn Winter, Sublette, and Maxine Walters, Nikette; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Monahans, with Dean Gressett officiating. Burial will be in Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

Elsie R. Smith
SCOTT CITY -- Elsie R. Smith, 96, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Aspen Living Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was born March 17, 1904, in Wichita County, the daughter of John and Katherine (Stang) Schwindt.
On Feb. 27, 1924, she married Edgar Smith in Wichita County. They moved from Wichita County to Colorado Springs in 1945. He died June 28, 1970, at Colorado Springs.
A homemaker, Mrs. Smith was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church at Leoti and the Home Demonstration Club at Eastonville, Colo.
She is survived by two daughters, Zelda Dean, Security, Colo., and Lela Mae Johnson, Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Hallie Schwindt, Garden City; two sisters, Esther Gough, Demming, N.M., and Alberta Leach, Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, with the Rev. Eugene Rose officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Pikes Peak Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
