Elma Bjurstrom
LEOTI -- Elma Bjurstrom, 84, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Wichita County Hospital in Leoti.
She was born Aug. 2, 1915, at Russell, the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth (Voos) Reuber. She graduated from Russell High School and attended the University of Kansas.
A homemaker, she had been a Leoti resident since 1945, moving from Portland, Ore. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and UMW, and was a 50-year member of Rebekah Lodge.
She married Floyd Bjurstrom on Dec. 5, 1942, at Russell. He survives. Other survivors are two sons, Leo Bjurstrom and Wayne Bjurstrom, both of Leoti; two daughters, Mary Ellen Schreck, Leoti, and Pamela Gribben, Hays; a brother, Raymond Reuber, Hutchinson; two sisters, Leona Atkisson, Hays, and Caroline Jones, Pennsville, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, three sisters and a grandson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Susan Charest-Wichiser officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the Leoti Emergency Medical Technicians, in care of the funeral home.
Roy Hauff
Funeral for Roy Hauff, 69, a former Garden City resident, was to be 10:30 this morning at Hoven Funeral Chapel in Ellendale, N.D. Burial was to be in Ellendale City Cemetery
with military honors conducted by Forbes American Legion Post No. 277.
Mr. Hauff died Sunday, April 16, 2000.
He was born Oct. 9, 1930, at Golden Valley, N.D., the son of Andrew and Mathilda (Hasz) Hauff. He attended country school at Kulm, N.D. After his education, he was employed as a farm hand until entering the U.S. Navy in 1951. He was honorably discharged in 1959 and began driving a cattle truck.
On Sept. 5, 1961, he married Elizabeth Opp at Aberdeen, S.D. They made their home in Leola, S.D., and he continued driving a cattle truck. In 1967, the family moved to Garden City, where he was employed as a welder at Oswalts.
After retiring from Oswalts, he returned to Leola, where he enjoyed helping various farmers in the area. In June 1999, he entered the Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale, where he resided until his death.
A former resident of Forbes, N.D., Mr. Hauff enjoyed his work and was a member of Forbes American Legion Post No. 277.
He is survived by three sons, Mitchell Keim, Regan Keim and Marty Keim, all of Garden City; two daughters, Margo Deck, Mesa, Ariz., and Wanda Leigh, Wickenburg, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Mitchell Hauff, Zethyr Hills, Fla., Alvin Hauff, Lansing, Mich., and Willy Hauff, Wasilla, Alaska; and four sisters, Martha Brandenburger, Sandusky, Ohio, Anna Bermbeck and Trudy Jenkins, both of Seattle, and Lenora Bernhagen, Kelso, Wash. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard Hauff, Roland Hauff, Henry Hauff and Gustaz Hauff; and a sister, Irene Hauff.
Jessica B. Arkebauer
SCOTT CITY -- Jessica B. Arkebauer, 12, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita, from injuries suffered after being hit by a car Friday night in the 1200 block of Main Street in Scott City.
She was born April 30, 1987, at Denver, the daughter of Jeffrey B. and Deborah L. (Waters) Arkebauer.
A Scott City resident since July 1998, moving from Colorado Springs, Colo., she was a student at Scott City Middle School. She was a member of First Christian Church where she was a sponsor for Team Kids, and also belonged to Teens For Christ.
Jessica is survived by her parents, a sister, Hannah L. Arkebauer, and a brother, Jack B. Arkebauer, all of Scott City; her grandparents, Lori Colburn, Littleton, Colo., Jim Arkebauer, Denver, Rhoda and Bob Andersen, Kiowa, and Bruce and Polly Waters, Buffalo, Wyo.; her great-grandmother, Dean Shyrock, West Frankfort, Ill.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins including Pam Oleson and Cody Oleson of Scott City.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. John Warring officiating. Private inurnment will take place later.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 9 tonight, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Jessica B. Arkebauer Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Abraham Fehr
SUBLETTE -- Funeral for Abraham Fehr, the infant son of Abram and Agatha (Wall) Fehr of Kismet, will be 3 p.m. Friday at Reinlaender Mennonite Church, Sublette. Johan Peters, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.
Abraham was stillborn Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Peter Fehr and Ernie Fehr, both of Kismet; his grandparents, Issac and Anna Fehr, Leamington, Canada; and Peter and Helen Wall, Harrow, Canada; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Maria Fehr.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette.
Dorothy Fern McLinn
Dorothy Fern (Thomas) McLinn, 76, a former Garden City resident, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at her home in Fort Smith, Ark.
Born Jan. 26, 1924, at Norwich, she was the daughter of Maggie and John Thomas.
She and her husband, Marvin Orvin McLinn, made their home in Garden City when their children were young. Along with her husband, she helped in the custom combining of the wheat harvest for many years. They moved to California where she worked for Packard Bell until they decided to begin traveling again.
She is survived by three sons, Larry McLinn, Fort Smith, Garry McLinn and Jerry McLinn, both of Tonasket, Wash.; a daughter, Gloria Raymondo, Fontanna, Calif.; two brothers, Everett Thomas, Scott City, and Marvin Thomas, Denver; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters Velma, Bulah and Gladys; a brother, Ernest; and a great-grandson.
Funeral arrangements are pending, with services to take place in Garden City, followed by burial in Valley View Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Chapel, Fort Smith, is handling arrangements.
Ione L. Shuck
ULYSSES -- Ione L. Shuck, 87, of Fort Worth, Texas, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Villa Hermosa Health Care Center in Fort Worth.
She was born Sept. 24, 1912, at Lakin, the daughter of Herman and Louise (Kissinger) Coerber. She graduated from Ulysses High School in 1931.
Mrs. Shuck was a former resident of Pampa, Texas, Skelly Town, Texas, and Ulysses. A school teacher and nurse before her retirement, she belonged to the Lutheran Church.
In 1943, she married Richard Ross at Ulysses. He died in 1970. On March 30, 1975, she married Donald Shuck at Alma, Neb. He died Dec. 25, 1990. She was also preceded in death by three children, George Ross, Lanny Ross and Gertrude Louise Ross; two brothers, Walter Coerber and Alvin Coerber; and a sister, Alice Achelbein.
She is survived by a son, Robert Wayne, Fort Worth; a brother, Milton Coerber, Lakin; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Ulysses Cemetery, with the Rev. Dennis Mason officiating.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Gayle L. Shaffer
Gayle L. Shaffer, 53, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 3, 1946, at Freemont, Neb., the son of Otis Charles William and Bernice (Shannon) Shaffer.
A resident of Garden City since 1984, moving from Dilly, Texas, he was a truck driver for Bar T.
On March 13, 1993, he married Geri Smith at Holcomb. She survives. Other survivors are a son, Darren Shaffer, Freemont; a daughter, Lisa Gist, Rocklin, Calif.; three stepsons, Troy Smith, Jacksonville, Fla., Terri Smith, Wichita, and Ty Smith, Holcomb; his mother, Bernice Corbin, Dilly; his father, South Dakota; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City.
There will be no visitation. Memorials to the Gayle L. Shaffer Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
