Beryl Loraine Clark
SYRACUSE -- Beryl Loraine Clark, 86, a longtime resident of Hamilton County, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse.
Born Feb. 3, 1914, on the family ranch north of Coolidge, she was the daughter of John Laubach and Sarah Brown. She attended high school at Coolidge, graduating in 1932.
After she and Thomas Eugene Clark were married in 1938, they operated the Raney Inn Restaurant in Syracuse. He died in 1966. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Blanche, Mary, Julia, Verona and Isabel; and three brothers, Harry, Harold and Lee.
Mrs. Clark attended the Wesleyan Church in Syracuse, and enjoyed cooking and homemaking.
She is survived by three sons, Norman L. Hill, Thornton, Colo., Gary D. Clark, St. Louis, and Larry D. Clark, Shawnee; a sister, Anna Raney, Syracuse; numerous nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Harold Parsley, Syracuse; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. MST Monday at the Wesleyan Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Rod Collins officiating. Burial will be in Coolidge Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. MST Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Hamilton County Hospital, both in care of Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878-1253.
Donald G. Peirce
ULYSSES -- Funeral for Donald G. Peirce, 57, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Free Will Baptist Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Wayne Bookout officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
Mr. Peirce died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born March 12, 1943, at Garden City, the son of Glen Clarence and Vera Mae (Patterson) Peirce.
A Ulysses resident since 1949, he was a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He was employed by Ritchie Paving, having previously worked for Popejoy Construction for 29 years. He had served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his mother, Vera Mae Bullock, and her husband, Lester, Ulysses; a son, William G. Peirce, Ulysses; a daughter, Michelle K. Peirce, Liberal; a sister, Wilma Coghill, Ulysses; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Edward Peirce.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association or the church, both in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Oscar Manuel Dominguez
Oscar Manuel Dominguez, 31, of 301 Hudson St., died Thursday, April 20, 2000, from injuries suffered in an industrial accident at IBP in Holcomb.
He was born Aug. 21, 1968, at Juarez, Mexico, the son of Nieves and Socorro (Montes) Dominguez.
A Garden City resident since 1987, moving from El Paso, Texas, he had worked in the rendering department of IBP for nine years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
On Nov. 16, 1991, he married Luz Maria Sotelo at Juarez. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Oscar Manuel Dominguez Jr., and two daughters, Cynthia Dominguez and Denise Dominguez, all of the home; his father, El Paso; his aunt, Ramona Nunez of El Paso, who raised him after his mother's death; and his grandmother, Josefina Dominguez, El Paso. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents.
Funeral is planned for later in El Paso, followed by burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery
at El Paso.
There will be no visitation. Memorials to the Oscar Manuel Dominguez Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.
Elizabeth Ann 'Liz' Tied
>Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Tiede, 77, of Herington, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Herington Municipal Hospital.
Born at Garden City on Jan. 15, 1923, to James E. and Jessie (Shaffer) Sinclair, she graduated from Garden City High School.
On May 7, 1948, she married Harvey W. Tiede at Garden City. They moved to Herington in 1950. He died May 8, 1997.
A homemaker, Mrs. Tiede had worked as an operator and supervisory instructor for Southwestern Telephone Co. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington Hospital Auxiliary and the Kansas Association for Family & Community Education of Morris County, a charter member of Tri-County Historical Society and a former member of the Sorosis Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Riffel, Woodbine, and Sharon Lietz, Herington; four grandchildren; and a brother, James Sinclair, Kansas City, Mo.
Prayer service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Brockmeier Funeral Chapel, Herington. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington, with the Rev. K.C. Dehning officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral chapel, P.O. Box 505, Herington, KS 67449.
Tommy Lee Young
SYRACUSE -- Tommy Lee Young, 71, of Syracuse, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at VA Nursing Home in Denver.
He was born Jan. 4, 1929, at Tioga, Colo., the son of Marion Delbert and Vera Bell (Parker) Young. He attended grade school and high school in Canon City, Colo.
A licensed master plumber, he had worked as a pumper for Amoco and had served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the VFW of Canon City and the American Legion of Ulysses.
On Aug. 11, 1948, he married Ileta "Bonnie" Hollopeter at Canon City. She died May 20, 1996. He was also preceded in death by a brother, O.D. Young; and a sister, Pearl Young.
He is survived by two sons, O.D. Young, Ulysses, and Doug Young, Syracuse; a daughter, Joy Valentine, Ulysses; two brothers, Marion Young, West Unity, Ohio, and Jim Young, Westminster, Colo.; a sister, Geraldine Goodrich, Canon City; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy McGillivray, Ulysses, and June Bolen, Plains; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with the Revs. Bill Harrold and John Warring officiating. Military rites will be presented at the church with cremation following the services.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Earl R. Gruver
SCOTT CITY -- Earl R. Gruver, 92, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.
He was born Dec. 1, 1907, in Russell County, the son of Sanford L. and Mary E. (Baldwin) Gruver.
A resident of Manning since 1968, moving from Idaho, he was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of First Christian Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On May 22, 1970, he married Hilda Olena Lockard at Elizabethtown, Ky. She survives. Other survivors are a brother, Thomas Gruver, Scott City; a sister-in-law, Darlene Gruver, Ulysses; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, with the Rev. John Warring officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Park Lane Nursing Home, in care of the funeral home.
Wannetta Clark
HUGOTON -- Wannetta Clark, 87, of Clinton, Ind., died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Heritage House of Clinton.
A former Hugoton resident, she was born in Hugoton on Feb. 3, 1913, the daughter of Lewis and Clara (Bell) Kilbourn. A homemaker, she was a member of the Hugoton United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary at Clinton and the Clinton Royal Neighbors.
She is survived by a son, Robert D. Clark, Orland Park, Ill.; a sister, Maxine Ramey, Wichita; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Clark, in 1974; and a son, Donald D. Clark.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Hugoton Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the donor's choice.
