Verne Miller
SUBLETTE -- Funeral for Verne Miller, 88, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Plymell Union Church, with the Revs. Ray Raley and Gary Meeks officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Miller died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at the Hamilton County Extended Care Unit in Syracuse.
Born July 20, 1911, in Haskell County, he was the son of Charles Edward and Flossie Pearl (Follin) Miller. His family homesteaded in Haskell County.
He attended Sublette High School and graduated from Manhattan High School. After his schooling, he returned to the farm. During the Depression he worked for other farmers. He then took over the family farm and was one of the pioneers in irrigation in Haskell County, holding irrigator permit No. 10. He also raised certified seed and ran cattle.
After his retirement, he established Miller Tree Farm and was well-known in the area for raising Christmas trees. He enjoyed trees, birds, fireworks, collecting rocks, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Miller was a member of Plymell Union Church, where he was a former church board member. He was a longtime member of the Haskell County Soil & Conservation Board, past treasurer of the Finney-Haskell Old Settlers Association, belonged to Farm Bureau and was a founding member of the Kansas Christmas Tree Growers Association.
On Dec. 23, 1931, he married Ida Freeman at Cimarron. She died Aug. 14, 1978. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Miller; and a sister, Daryle Lightner.
He is survived by two daughters, Verna Rundell, Syracuse, and Fredys Wasson, Belpre; a son, Francis Miller, Hartsburg, Mo.; two brothers, Earl Miller, College Park, Md., and Ralph Miller, Upland, Calif.; two sisters, Laura Quakenbush, Sublette, and Mary Vail, Alexandria, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are to the church, in care of the funeral home.
Roy E. Sauer
CIMARRON -- Roy E. Sauer, 98, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron.
He was born July 16, 1901, at Manchester, Okla., the son of Henry and Lollie (Kelling) Sauer. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1928.
A Cimarron resident since 1944, moving from Sylvia, he was a public school teacher in Reno County for seven years, and was also a farmer and stockman.
Mr. Sauer was an active member of Cimarron Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School and was a past church board member.
On Dec. 28, 1927, he married Carrie Marie Snowbarger at Sylvia. She died in March 1945. On Nov. 27, 1949, he married Mertie G. Morris at Cimarron. She died July 15, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray A. Sauer; a sister, Effie Kruse; and a grandson.
He is survived by a son, Dwight, Sterling; four daughters, Willodene Marrs, San Jacinto, Calif., Verda Roe, Pueblo, Colo., Grace Conant, Cimarron, and Edith Dickson, Smith Center; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cimarron Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Jim C. Bond, Norman Howerton and Bernie Dickson officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Peace Creek Cemetery
in rural Stafford County.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Burkhart's Gray County Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials are suggested to the church or The Shepherd's Center, both in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Edwin P. Weishaar Jr.
Edwin P. Weishaar Jr., 51, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Feb. 26, 1949, at Algona, Iowa, the son of Edwin P. and Grace (Scott) Weishaar.
A Garden City resident since 1989, moving from Kearney, Neb., he was an office equipment and supply salesman for Southwest Office Plus. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Garden City, where he served as a youth sponsor, and had served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
On Jan. 14, 1989, he married Jan Limberopoulos at Kearney. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Brad Weishaar, Lincoln, Neb., Marc Weishaar, Davis, Calif., and Chris Weishaar, Ames, Iowa; two daughters, Fani Schliep, Topeka, and Nicla Limberopoulos, Garden City; his mother, Garden City; three brothers, Dan Weishaar, Loveland, Colo., Joe Weishaar, Alliance, Neb., and Al Weishaar, EauClaire, Wis.; two sisters, Diana Sprigg, Kansas City, Mo., and Nancy Turner, San Antonio, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church, Garden City, with the Revs. Kent Anderson and Nathan Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Ed Weishaar Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Keith Alan Merz
Funeral for Keith Alan Merz, 39, of Haltom City, Texas, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shannon Funeral Home, Fort Worth, Texas, with the Rev. Glenn Huebel officiating.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, with the Rev. Lynn Spencer officiating.
Mr. Merz died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Bishop Davies Care Center in Hurst, Texas, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Garden City on June 21, 1960, he was the son of Melvin and Jimmie (LaFon) Merz. He attended grade school in Deerfield, and attended Liberal High School and Southwest Kansas Technical School after the family moved to Liberal in 1970.
After completing school, Mr. Merz moved to Fort Worth where he worked as a welder for Martin K. Eby Construction Co.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Keller, Texas.
On Dec. 25, 1999, he married Wanda Jones at Fort Worth. She survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Tiffany and Stasha Merz, both of Austin, Texas, and Misty Dunn, Oklahoma City; his parents, Liberal; a brother, Steve Merz, Hugoton; two sisters, Judy Armstrong, Watauga, Texas, and Janet Freeman, Liberal; two stepchildren, Darrold and Katie McAllister, Haltom City; a grandson; two nephews; and one niece. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Bertha Merz, and Charles and Minnie LaFon.

Muriel Patricia Tedder
MANTER -- Funeral for Muriel Patricia Tedder, 67, of Manter, will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Manter, with the Revs. Charles Rowley and Dave Kaufmann officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson, with an Indian traditional burial ceremony conducted.
Mrs. Tedder died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born May 8, 1932, at Lincolnville, Okla., the daughter of Freeman Taylor and Mildred V. (Watson) Walker.
A resident of Manter since 1946, she had worked for State Statistical Reporting and the SRS office in Johnson, was a volunteer fireman, and was a school bus driver for USD 452.
Mrs. Tedder was a board member of the Stanton County Senior Center, a member of the Manter City Council, Eastern Star and the Futorum Club at Johnson, American Legion Auxiliary at Ulysses, Rebekah Lodge at Fowler, the Moose Lodge at Dodge City, and the United Methodist Church at Manter.
On Nov. 22, 1953, she married George C. Tedder at Manter. He survives. Other survivors are her mother, Manter; two sons, George R. Tedder, Syracuse, and Jerry C. Tedder, Manter; a brother, Freeman G. "Bud" Walker, Oklahoma City; three sisters, Ellen K. Walcher, Woodward, Okla., Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Devers, Booker, Texas, and Linda Donati, Strattford, N.J.; three grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Cassie L. Siegrist
LAKIN -- Former Lakin resident Cassie L. Siegrist, 88, of South Hutchinson, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born Dec. 4, 1911, at Dodge City, the daughter of William K. and Minnie Lee (Crawford) Putnam.
A longtime resident of South Hutchinson, moving from Lakin, she was a retired independent oil operator.
She married Arthur Jones. He died in October 1946. In 1962, she married George B. Siegrist Sr., at Augusta. He died in August 1963. She was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Carrie Wood; and a brother, Carle C. Putnam.
She is survived by three nephews, Richard C. Putnam, Searcy, Ark., Ronald E. Putnam, Longmont, Colo., and Ramon S. Putnam, Woodbury, N.J.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three great-nephews; and four stepgrandchildren.
Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Ramon S. Putnam officiating. Private family inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.
