Mabel Dorothy Long
Johnson CITY -- Mabel Dorothy Long, 95, of Johnson City, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson City.
She was born July 21, 1904, in Rice County, the daughter of Uriah S. and Carrie (Banister) Hague.
A homemaker, Mrs. Long had lived in Rice, Kiowa and Stanton counties. She was a charter member of Big Bow EHU Club, belonged to Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church of Johnson City, was a strong supporter of Big Bow 4-H, and encouraged and assisted students as they attended college.
On July 26, 1924, she married Ralph G. Long at Newton. They moved to Stanton County during the blizzard of January 1930. He died Jan. 1, 1986. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Clifford W. Cate, on May 1, 1982.
She is survived by two sons, Claude Long, Bartlesville, Okla., and Keith Long, Warner Robins, Ga.; three daughters, Betty Anderson, Fulton, Texas, Katherine Julian, Johnson City, and Darlene J. Cate, Denver; a sister, Lola Hudgens, Johnson City; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church, Johnson City, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Stanton County Scholarship Foundation, in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.
Frank Husted
LAKIN -- Frank Husted, 62, a former Lakin resident, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Stockton, Calif.
He was born March 4, 1938, at Cavanes, Texas, and grew up in Lakin. On April 19, 1957, he married Deanne Beymer at Lakin.
Mr. Husted traveled throughout the United States and overseas with Morrison Knudsen in construction before moving to Lodi, Calif., in 1987 where he worked for Dutra Construction. He then helped start DDM Construction and Crane and Rigging in 1995.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lakin, was a 32nd degree Mason at Montana and also belonged to the Beavers Club.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jerrie McClaskey, Los Alamos, N.M., and Bonnie Husted, Lodi; his mother, Loleta Husted, San Bernardino, Calif.; three brothers, Larry Husted and Arthur Husted, both of San Bernardino, and Loyd Husted, Farmington, N.M.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, "Butch" Husted; and a sister, Joanne Husted.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Lakin, with the Rev. William Salmon officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.
Nina L. Brown
SATANTA -- Nina L. Brown, 69, of Satanta, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at the Satanta Long Term Care Unit.
She was born May 23, 1930, at Nicut, Okla., the daughter of George Dallas and Sarah Louellen (Walters) Nelson.
A Satanta resident since 1954, moving from Nicut, Mrs. Brown was a certified nurse's aide at Satanta District Hospital for several years. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, cooking, visiting with her sisters, and reading to children. She was known to be a great storyteller.
She married Wiley Lewis Brown on May 22, 1947. He died in 1987. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Joe Nelson; two sisters, Ailene Jones and Ramona Sims; and a daughter, Sherry Brown.
She is survived by two daughters, Melody Huff, Wichita, and Darlene Lucas, Satanta; three brothers, Dallas Nelson, Satanta, Melvin Nelson and James Nelson, both of Moldrow, Okla.; three sisters, Maxine Brown and Jerene Hoskinson, both of Satanta, and Virginia Aronson, Louisburg; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Satanta, with the Revs. Ray Tweed and Kip Ryherd officiating. Burial will be in Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta.
Visitation hours are from 6 to 8 tonight and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to the Satanta Long Term Care Unit and may be left at Shopping Stop True Value in Satanta or mailed to the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
Emily Diane Grandy Elliot
SUBLETTE -- Graveside service for Emily Diane Grandy Elliot, the daughter of Edward Grandy of Abilene and Diane Elliot of Sublette, will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Turon Cemetery, Turon, with the Rev. Scott Buller officiating.
Emily was born Monday, April 10, 2000, and died that day at Liberal Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Vernon and Gerry Elliot, Sublette, and Joe Bennett, Goodland; her great-grandfather, Fred Smith, Sterling; four aunts, four uncles; and nine cousins. She was preceded in death by two great-grandmothers; a great-grandfather; and a grandmother.

John Charles Courtney
Funeral for John Charles Courtney, 35, of Springfield, Mo., will be 7 tonight at Walnut Lawn DeGraffenreid-Wood Funeral Home, Springfield. Burial will take place later.
Mr. Courtney died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at St. John's Regional Health Center.
He was born Sept. 20, 1964, at Garden City, the son of John E. and Nancy Jane (Pierce) Courtney.
Mr. Courtney worked at Ozark Food Harvest, enjoyed all sports, and participated in Special Olympics and A Sporting Chance.
He is survived by his parents, Springfield; a sister, Christine Smith, Springfield; a niece; and his grandparents, Roscoe and Caryl Courtney, Monett, Mo., and Homer and Norma Pierce, Gasquet, Calif.

Sarah Virginia Bradley
DIGHTON -- Sarah Virginia Bradley, 92, died Monday, April 10, 2000, at the Lane County Long Term Care Unit in Dighton.
Born March 2, 1908, at Abilene, she was the daughter of Virgil and Sallie V. (Shirkey) Miles.
A longtime resident of the Shields area before moving into Dighton, she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dighton and the United Methodist Choir.
She attended Emporia State Teachers College, taught for three years before attending college at Lawrence, and then taught for two years in Lawrence. After moving back to Lane County, she was a homemaker.
On May 28, 1933, she married John William Bradley at Lawrence. He died Jan. 13, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Miles.
She is survived by two sisters, Josephine Boltz and Emily Myers, both of Dighton.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Shields Cemetery.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Lane County Historical Society, both in care of the funeral home.
Dorothy I. Steele
LEOTI -- Funeral for Dorothy I. Steele, 91, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Susan Charest-Wickiser officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.
Mrs. Steele died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at the Wichita County Long Term Care Home in Leoti.
She was born March 31, 1909, at Tampa, the daughter of Warner and Sadie (Garrett) Heim.
A homemaker, she had been a Leoti resident since 1946. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mother's Study Club, UMW and several bridge clubs, all at Leoti, and Order of Eastern Star at Scott City.
On Aug. 23, 1934, she married Hyland Steele at Russell Springs. He died Jan. 1, 1982, at Leoti. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by a son, John H. Jr., Canon City, Colo.; a daughter, Patricia Jean Mohri, Papillion, Neb.; three brothers, Beverly Heim, Belton, Mo., Milton Heim, Pilot Grove, Mo., and Roger Heim, Scott City; two sisters, Betty Mitchell, Silver Lake, and Evie Bauck, Leoti; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
