Harold Rowe
Rosary for Harold Rowe, 80, a former Garden City resident, will be 4:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Beaver, Okla. Funeral Mass will follow at 5 p.m.
Mr. Rowe, of Beaver, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000.
Born March 29, 1919, at Bowers Mill, Mo., his family moved to Lyons in 1923 and later moved to Hutchinson, where he finished his school years.
He married Lucille Pickett of Garden City in 1938 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Hutchinson.
Mr. Rowe was employed by McVay's for several years before moving back to Lyons where he was employed by Easter Pipe Line of Ellinwood. After three years in the Navy Seabees, he worked for Spicer-Markel Dirt Contractor of Great Bend and Garden City. In 1950, he went to work for Northern Natural Gas Co., Garden City, and was transferred to Beaver in 1968. He retired in 1981.
He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister-in-law, Clodaugh Strasser of Garden City.

Helen E. Beitler
Funeral for Helen E. Beitler, 72, will be 3 p.m. Friday at Church of Christ, Garden City, with the Rev. Darrell Rains officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Beitler died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at her home in Garden City.
She was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Stafford County, the daughter of Arthur and Blanche (Wyne) Allen, and attended rural and Stafford schools.
On July 28, 1946, she married Hugh Beitler at Great Bend. They moved to Garden City in 1967. A homemaker, Mrs. Beitler was a member of Church of Christ and was active in church functions. She also belonged to TOPS, enjoyed being with her family, and enjoyed ceramic painting, reading and quilting.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Ruth Johnson and Muriel Beitler, both of Garden City; a brother, Kenneth Allen, Stafford; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eldon Allen.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.
Lila M. Ashida
Johnson CITY -- Vigil service for Lila M. Ashida, 69, will be 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Johnson. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. John Kowal officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson.
Mrs. Ashida died Monday, March 13, 2000, at her home in Johnson City.
She was born Jan. 25, 1931, at Antonito, Colo., the daughter of Ruben and Eutilia (Archuleta) Jiron.
Mrs. Ashida had lived in Johnson City since 1960 and was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. A homemaker, she enjoyed quilting, gardening, raising melons, doing crossword puzzles and spoiling her six grandchildren.
On Jan. 26, 1960, she married Sam A. Ashida at Clayton, N.M. He died Sept. 8, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ruben Jiron; and three sisters, Francis Gonzales, Tillie Ybarra and Mary LeBlanc.
She is survived by four daughters, Lori Ashida and Debbie Ashida, both of Johnson City, Terri Ashida-Fields, Guymon, Okla., and Susan Ashida-Butler, Parsons; six grandchildren; two brothers, Herman Jiron, Johnson City, and Phillip Jiron, Dupree, S.D.; two sisters, Fracia Shironaka, Johnson City, and Ofelia Lovato, Ordway, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Gabe LeBlanc, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

Leon G. Ellis
Leon G. Ellis, 91, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
He was born Jan. 13, 1909, at Garden City, the son of James Arthur and Anise Ada (Nettrouer) Ellis.
A lifetime resident of Garden City, he was a retired electrician, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Church of Christ.
On Dec. 19, 1942, he married Bessie Opal Cole at Alva, Okla. She died Dec. 17, 1985, at Garden City.
He is survived by a brother, Forest Ellis of Mason, Ohio.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Church of Christ, Garden City, with the Rev. Darrell Rains officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the church may be sent in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Martha Kehn
MONTEZUMA -- Martha Kehn, 70, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where she had resided since Oct. 26, 1992.
She was born June 27, 1929, at Montezuma, the daughter of Isaac and Annie (Nightengale) Kehn. A lifetime resident, she attended first through fifth grades at the Homestead Schools and fifth through eighth grades at Montezuma Grade School.
Miss Kehn collected news for the Montezuma Press for several years. She enjoyed making quilt tops and her many hobbies included reading, dominoes, letter writing, sewing, handwork, visiting with friends, and walking.
She lived with her sister, Lena Kehn, until her death. She then lived alone for more than a year before moving into a self-care apartment and then into Bethel Home Inc. She was a member of Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Montezuma.
She is survived by a sister, Minnie Koehn, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her sister, Lena, she was also preceded in death by another sister, Dessie Schmidt.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Montezuma, followed by burial in the North Mennonite Cemetery, Montezuma.

Ella Murphy
ULYSSES -- Funeral for Ella Murphy, 89, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Max Clayton officiating. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.
Mrs. Murphy died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born Dec. 6, 1910, in Finney County, the daughter of Henry John and Maude Florence (Jones) Meyer.
A Ulysses resident since 1926, moving from Finney County, she taught school in her earlier life and later worked in the nursery at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital. She had been a resident of Western Prairie Care Home at Ulysses. Her hobby was crocheting afghans and she had won several ribbons at the fair.
She is survived by a son, Johnny Murphy, Norwick; two sisters, Arlene Barnes and Norma Jean Smith, both of Ulysses; four sisters-in-law, Arlene Meyer, Margaret Meyer and June Meyer, all of Ulysses, and Reith Meyer, Florence, Ariz.; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Murphy, on Aug. 25, 1972; a son, Richard Murphy; a sister, Mary Meyer; and four brothers, Bill Meyer, Everett Meyer, Henry Meyer Jr. and Cecil Meyer.
