Wilbur Dwight Goodman
Johnson CITY -- Funeral for Wilbur Dwight Goodman, 75, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Johnson, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Mr. Goodman died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.
He was born May 18, 1925, at Beeler, the son of Elbert and Olive (Hills) Goodman.
A resident of Johnson City since 1963, he was the owner and operator of Goodman Garage until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Lucky 4 Square Dance Club, Happy Campers Motor Club, and Masonic Lodge No. 441 A.F. & A.M..
He is survived by four sons, Eric Dwight Goodman, Gaston, S.C., Alan T. Goodman, Pratt, Barry D. Goodman, Johnson City, and Colin S. Goodman, Sterling; two brothers, Dean Goodman, Benton, and Elgin Goodman, Nardin, Okla.; a sister, Neva Dodson, Arkansas City; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His wife, Della Lea Goodman, whom he married on Nov. 18, 1950, at Wellington, died May 19, 1999.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.
Gladys O. Layton
ULYSSES -- Funeral for Gladys O. Layton, 84, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.
Mrs. Layton died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
She was born May 20, 1915, in Oklahoma Territory near Durant, the daughter of John and Lema (Cassidy) Dill. A homemaker, she had been a resident of Grant County since 1952 and was a member of Shelton Memorial Christian Church.
On Sept. 17, 1939, she married Ned K. Layton at Sayre, Okla. He died Dec. 28, 1991. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Carl Dill, Clarence Dill, Earl Dill and J.M. Dill; and two sisters, Icie Jennings and Annie Dill.
She is survived by a son, John Layton, Independence; two daughters, Ginger Anthony, Ulysses, and Jeanie Allen, Garden City; two sisters, Ruth Wiley, Wheeler, Texas, and Jeanie Parks, Roulette, Texas; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Grant County Museum or the church, both in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Esther E. Purdy
Esther E. Purdy, 82, a former area resident, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Beverly Health Care Center in Laguna Hills, Calif.
She was born July 16, 1917, in Beaver County, Okla., the daughter of Thomas and Carrie (Igo) Frisby. When she was a young child, the family moved to Sublette, where she attended schools.
On June 6, 1939, she married Woodrow Wilson Purdy at Garden City. They lived in Garden City until moving to Mission Viejo, Calif., in 1973. A homemaker, she enjoyed sewing and cooking.
Her husband died July 13, 1992. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by seven sons, Roger Purdy, Las Vegas, Richard Purdy, Great Bend, Thomas Purdy, of Lawrence, James Purdy and Greg Purdy, both of Mission Viejo, Alan "Barry" Purdy, Oceanside, Calif., and Mark Purdy, Hacienda Heights, Calif.; three daughters, Cathryn Purdy and Linda Purdy, both of Mission Viejo, and Susan Purdy, Dana Point, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. David Sweley officiating.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.
Robert M. Eisele
SUBLETTE -- Robert M. Eisele, 85, of San Ygnacio, Texas, and formerly of Sublette, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Laredo, Texas.
He was born Feb. 15, 1915, at Eudora, the son of Alfred and Emma (Hornberger) Eisele.
On May 6, 1939, he married Mary Lou Lucas at Paducah, Ky. They moved to Sublette in 1946 and farmed north of Sublette until moving to Arizona in 1965. When they retired, they moved to south Texas, making their home in San Ygnacio, south of Laredo on the Rio Grande.
Mr. Eisele was a member of the Christian Church of Sublette, where he was a deacon and elder for several years. When he moved to south Texas, he became a member of King's Way Fellowship Church of Zapata, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Hayward Eisele, Montrose, Colo.; a daughter, Roberta Trahern, Sublette; a brother, Clifford Eisele, Lenexa; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Eisele.
Funeral will be 7 p.m. Thursday at King's Way Fellowship Church, Zapata. Sublette American Legion Post No. 205 will conduct a military graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette, with the Rev. Roger Miller officiating.

Vera F. Lundblade
Vera F. Lundblade, 95, a former Garden City resident, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.
She was born May 16, 1904, at Glad, the daughter of John W. and Maude (Mitchell) Wigton. A restaurant cook, she had lived in Scott City since 1996, moving from Tribune.
In 1924, she married Fred Lundblade. He died in 1958 at Mankato. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Wayne, John and Charles; two daughters, Nellie Walker and Shirley Sager; and seven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a son, Fred Lundblade Jr., Stoutland, Mo.; two daughters, Pat Barker, Garden City, and Frances McGraw, Anthony; three brothers, Albert Wigton, Denver, Orvil Wigton, Brazilton, and Wilson Wigton, Columbus; a sister, Pearl Clark, Columbus; 35 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Nuckolls officiating. Friends may meet at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, at 1:45 p.m. to go to the cemetery.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home in Garden City. Memorials to the Vera F. Lundblade Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home in Garden City.
Louis Miller
HOLCOMB -- Graveside service for Louis Miller, 80, was 3 p.m. Monday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Miller died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
He was born Sept. 28, 1918, at White, Okla., the son of William and JoAnn (Meyers) Miller.
A resident of Holcomb since 1990, moving from Benton, Ark., he had been a lathe operator for a furniture manufacturing company.
In June 1942, he married Agnis Wootten at Hot Springs, Ark. She died Oct. 29, 1989, at Garden City.
He is survived by two sons, James E. Miller, Garden City, and Louis A. Miller, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Crissie L. Brunson, Holcomb; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, was in charge of arrangements.
Lena Lee Mobley
ENSIGN -- Lena Lee Mobley, 92, of Ensign, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Dodge City Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City.
Born Dec. 2, 1907, at Gray, Okla., she was the daughter of Benjamin Pierce and Eula Lucinda (Wright) Harris.
She resided for many years in Lamar, Colo., where she owned and operated an apartment building and also taught second grade and special education in the Wiley Consolidated School Systems.
An Ensign resident since November 1998, moving from Lamar, she was a member of the American Association of University Women and the Fort Nightly Club.
On Jan. 21, 1932, she married John Mobley at Meeker, Colo. He died Dec. 27, 1960. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Harris.
She is survived by a son, John Francis Mobley, Ensign; a daughter, Sydney Thornton, Colfax, Calif.; and two stepgrandchildren.
Cremation took place today in Dodge City. Montezuma Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
