Betty Lucille Blackburn
LEOTI -- Betty Lucille Blackburn, 75, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
She was born March 7, 1924, at Rockford, Ill., the daughter of Mervyn H. and Eleanor M. (Hix) Sorensen.
A Leoti resident since 1946, she was clerk of the district court, retiring in 1991. She helped organize the Leoti VFW Auxiliary as well as holding various local and district offices in the organization, eventually serving as state president in 1973-74.
Mrs. Blackburn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wichita County Historical Society and the Butterfield Trail Association of Russell Springs.
On Oct. 5, 1945, she married Clyde Blackburn at Love's Park. Ill. He died Sept. 18, 1999.
She is survived by three sons, Robert, Camarillo, Calif., Wayne, Dodge City, and Brad, Ardmore, Okla.; a daughter, Bonnie Alverez, Hays; her mother, Leoti; a brother, Richard Sorensen, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; nine grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Paul McNall officiating. Inurnment will be in Leoti Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the Wichita County Historical Society, in care of the funeral home.
Iva Irene Baker
LAKIN -- Iva Irene Baker, 84, a former resident of Lakin and Holcomb, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton. She had been a resident of Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, Hugoton, for two years.
Born Aug. 19, 1915, in Beaver County, Okla., she was the daughter of Thomas N. and Carrie (Igo) Frisby. She grew up in Sublette and graduated from Sublette High School in 1933.
Mrs. Baker spent most of her adult life in Holcomb and Lakin. She worked as a school teacher, an appraiser and as manager of the credit union in Lakin. She was a 4-H leader for several years in Holcomb and helped organize the First Presbyterian Church of Holcomb. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Lakin and was a former Democratic chairperson of Kearny County.
On Aug. 31, 1936, she married Carl Albert Baker. He preceded her in death as did two brothers, Fred Frisby and Herman Frisby; three sisters, Lennie Fisk, Opal Johnson and Alice Jacobs; and one granddaughter.
She is survived by a son, Gary Baker, Hugoton; three daughters, Judy Satterfield, Emporia, Janice Sim, Leawood, and Jane Allen, Ardmore, Okla.; a brother, Thomas Frisby, Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Esther Purdy, Los Angeles; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Lakin, with the Rev. Juanita Wiseman officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church of Hugoton or First Presbyterian Church of Lakin, both in care of the funeral home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Irma M. Ohmes
Irma M. Ohmes, 70, of Dodge City and formerly of Garden City, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born Jan. 29, 1930, at Dodge City, the daughter of Jacob and Lugard (Batt) Klein.
Mrs. Ohmes moved from Dodge City to Garden City in 1956 and returned to Dodge City in 1961. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church at Wright, attended Sacred Heart Cathedral at Dodge City, and belonged to the VFW Auxiliary and the American Postal Workers Union Auxiliary, both at Dodge City.
On May 18, 1953, she married John Ohmes at Dodge City. He survives.
She is also survived by a son, Terry, Dodge City; a brother, Vincent Klein, Woodland Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Sister Mary Ann Klein, Larned, and Jean Pfeiffer, Grand Lake, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City, with the Rev. Louis Hoang officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Wright.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Edna E. Zedren
SCOTT CITY -- Graveside service for Edna E. Zedren, 87, a former resident of Garfield, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Garfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Lohmeyer officiating.
Miss Zedren died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.
She was born June 25, 1912, at Springfield, Mass., the daughter of Per Albert and Hilma (Simonson) Zedren.
A retired teacher, Miss Zedren was a member of Garfield Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a sister, Augusta Stewert, Shields.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley. Memorials are suggested to Garfield Lutheran Church, in care of the funeral home.
Joseph Scott Young
Joseph Scott Young, 84, a retired Episcopal priest who had served in Garden City at one time and was a former Hutchinson resident, died Jan. 20, 2000, at La Jolla, Calif.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Michael Milliken officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.

Lucille N. Viele
SCOTT CITY -- Lucille N. Viele, 56, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
She was born March 25, 1943, at Oak Creek, Colo., the daughter of Homer and Naomi (House) Harmon.
A homemaker, she had been a lifetime resident of Yampa, Colo. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church, Yampa.
On June 25, 1960, she married Russell Viele in Steamboat Springs, Colo. He survives.
Other survivors are one son, Kerey Viele, Yampa; two daughters, Fay Martin, Healy, and Laura Viele, Yampa; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. MT Wednesday in Kit Carson (Colo.) Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Knock officiating.
