Nellie Mae Hannafious
Nellie Mae Hannafious, 80, of Waynoka, Okla., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Amarillo, Texas.
She was born May 31, 1919, at Watonga, Okla., the daughter of William and Mary Salley (Warren) Pierce.
On Dec. 9, 1936, she married Bob Kenneth Hannafious at Oklahoma City.
She is survived by two daughters, Bobbie Clemence, Amarillo, and Norma Clemence, Garden City; a sister, Maxine Willis, Houston; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Pierce; a sister, Pearl Balenseisen; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
Randall Wayne 'Randy' Forester
HUGOTON -- Randall Wayne "Randy" Forester, 40, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at his home in rural Hugoton.
The son of Roy Lee and Joyce Ernestine (Smith) Forester Sr., he was born March 25, 1959, at Pampa, Texas.
A lifetime resident of Ulysses, with the exception of the past five months in rural Hugoton, he was a truck driver for Cattle Empire LLC Feedyard in Satanta and Sublette, and attended First Christian Church in Hugoton. He enjoyed music and people.
On March 25, 1998, he married Geri Lynne Stoops at Ulysses. She survives. Other survivors are his mother, South Bend Ind.; a brother, Roy Forester, Sublette; and three sisters, Dana Robbins, South Bend, Jacque Morris, Wichita, and Michelle Vassar, Perry, Okla. He was preceded in death by his father, who died on Sept. 5, 1999.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church, Ulysses, with burial to follow in Ulysses Cemetery.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses.
Gladys Marie Cotton
MONTEZUMA -- Gladys Marie Cotton, 97, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where she had been a resident for three years.
She was born Dec. 1, 1903, at Stafford, the daughter of William and Maggie (Cline) Johnson.
In May 1922, she married Earl H. McCune at Stafford. He died Dec. 7, 1949. In August 1955, she married Harry Cotton at St. John. He died in January 1971. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ozelle Baker; three brothers; and two sisters.
A Montezuma resident since May 1977, moving from St. John, Mrs. Cotton was a homemaker. She belonged to the United Methodist Church of Stafford, Home Culture Club at Montezuma and Stafford, and the United Methodist Women at Stafford, and was active in church activities.
She is survived by two sons, Manuael McCune, Montezuma, and Lloyd McCune, Wichita; two daughters, Margaret Good, Montezuma, and Gloria Sayre, Springfield, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Montezuma, with the Rev. Gene Eshleman officiating. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Stafford Cemetery, with the Rev. Lynn Hanson officiating.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Montezuma Funeral Home.
Anna R. Rogge
Funeral for Anna R. Rogge, 83, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Miss Rogge died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
Born May 16, 1916, at Sublette, she was the daughter of John and Minnie (Rehme) Rogge, and grew up on a farm in Haskell County. She graduated from Garden City High School, Garden City Community College and Emporia State Teachers College.
Miss Rogge was a teacher for 10 years in Finney and Haskell counties before becoming an instructor for Southwestern Bell for 32 years, retiring in 1977.
A Garden City resident since 1946, she was a member of First Christian Church, the church circle, Telephone Pioneers of America, Horticulture Club, Retired Teachers Association, American Association of Retired Persons, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Senior Center, and was a life member of the Finney County Historical Society.
She was involved in the Pleasant Valley Schoolhouse at the Finnup Park and served as its treasurer. She enjoyed traveling, flowers, reading, crocheting and needlework.
She is survived by a sister, Elnora Stone, Garden City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Rogge.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 tonight and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Finney County Historical Society, in care of the funeral home.
Ruth Ann Burnett
Funeral for Ruth Ann Burnett, 90, of Neosho, Mo., was to be 2 p.m. today at Prosperity Southern Baptist Church in Rocky Comfort, Mo., with the Rev. Mike Renfrow officiating. Burial was to follow in Roller Cemetery
in Washburn. Mrs. Burnett's grandsons were to serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Burnett died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Neosho, following an illness. She had been a patient at Medicalodge of Neosho for some time.
She was born July 5, 1909, at Powderly, Texas, the daughter of James Joseph Bosarge and Meda Belle Patterson Vaughn-Bosarge.
On Dec. 18, 1926, she married Chester Marvin Burnett in McDonald County, Mo. He died Nov. 8, 1966. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and a daughter, June Rose Burnett.
A longtime resident of Rocky Comfort, Mrs. Burnett was a homemaker and had served several years as the OATS Bus coordinator for parts of Barry and Newton counties.
She is survived by six sons, Eul Burnett and Avon Burnett, both of Garden City, Carl Burnett and Marvin Burnett, both of Rocky Comfort, Ted Burnett, Boynton Beach, Fla., and Bill Burnett, Goshen, Ind.; three daughters, Wilma Jean Scott, Rocky Comfort, Helen Naab and Patricia Herman, both of Garden City; two sisters, Betty Jo Chronister and Jean Gray, both of Oklahoma City; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to OATS Bus, in care of Wheaton (Mo.) Funeral Home.
Kathryn Moomaw
DIGHTON -- Kathryn Moomaw, 93, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Lane County Hospital in Dighton.
Born Feb. 27, 1906, in a sod house in southeast Lane County, she was the daughter of John and Ellen (Walters) Murphy.
She attended a rural grade school, graduated from Dighton High School in 1923, received her teaching certificate from Emporia State Teachers College, and taught in a country school for four years.
On June 1, 1927, she married John Moomaw at Garden City. He died Jan. 30, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Murphy; and three sisters, Mabelle Hutchins, Nellie Mumma and Patricia Murphy.
A homemaker, Mrs. Moomaw was involved with Extension work, was a member of Amy Baptist Church until its closing, belonged to First Christian Church of Dighton, the church choir and church circle, and the J.O.Y. Center, was a Sunday school teacher and a member of Willing Workers Sunday school class, and was a 4-H leader.
She organized the first bloodmobile in Lane County and helped start the Lane County chapter of the American Cancer Society.
She is survived by a son, Max Moomaw, Dighton; two daughters, Marilyn Bennett, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Ruth Evans, Lyons; four brothers, Woodrow Murphy, Dighton, Larry Murphy, Wichita, Jim Murphy, Scott City, and Carlos Murphy, Hutchinson; three sisters, Mary Atterberry, Dighton, Alice Gabel, Ellis, and Betty Whiting, Newton; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will follow in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or the J.O.Y. Center, both in care of the funeral home.
