Bernice I. Whipple
DIGHTON -- Funeral for Bernice I. Whipple, 101, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Ness City, with the Rev. Russell King officiating.
Mrs. Whipple died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Lane County Long Term Care in Dighton.
She was born Nov. 8, 1898, at Ness City, the daughter of Harry and Estella (Hayes) Gilmore.
A longtime resident of Ness County, she had lived in Dighton for the past four years and in Ness City the previous 18 years. A homemaker, she had also worked as a missionary, nurse and teacher, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ness City.
On Sept. 9, 1921, she married Jacob Earl Whipple at Towner, Colo. He died Oct. 16, 1944. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Whipple and Thayne Starner; two daughters, Hazel Prose and Ruby Mather; two brothers, Paul Gilmore and Blaine Gilmore; and a sister, Helen Malone.
She is survived by seven sons, Clarence and Rex, both of Beeler, Fenton, Dighton, James, Lakeside, Calif., Donald, Arvada, Colo., Tom, Chicago, and Paul, Fowler, Colo.; two daughters, LaVerne Handy, Eureka, Mont., and Jennie Bates, Denver; 45 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; 54 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and until service time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Ness City or the United Methodist Church of Beeler, both in care of the funeral home.
Fred E. Small Sr.
Fred E. Small Sr., 72, of Moscow, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.
He was born Jan. 27, 1928, at North Platte, Neb., the son of Daniel E. and Mary E. (Reeves) Small. A resident of the Moscow area since 1975, moving from North Platte, he was a trucker.
On Aug. 6, 1976, he married Vickie Darlene Stelzig at Sublette. She survives.
He is also survived by six sons, Larry Small, Satanta, Charles Small, Earl Small and Julian Small, all of North Platte, Fred Small, Liberal, and Robert Small, Hutchinson; a daughter, Kristi Van Hooser, Johnson; a brother, Charles Small, Sutherland, Neb.; two sisters, Sylvia Coutts, Richland, Wash., and Mattie Chambers, Centralia, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Small; a sister, Hazel Kramer; and a daughter, Macy Ellen Small.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Moscow Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Bradford officiating. Burial will follow in Moscow Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today through Thursday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials for the family may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
Hazel A. Shriver
DEERFIELD -- Funeral for Hazel A. Shriver, 92, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Deerfield, with the Rev. Warren Hett officiating. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery.
Mrs. Shriver died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Sept. 21, 1907, at Hartford, the daughter of John "Jack" and Edith (Brewer) Steenis.
A Garden City resident since 1993, moving from Deerfield, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Deerfield, was a former 4-H leader, taught one year at Harmony Hill School in Kearny County and was active with the Garden City Community College Endowment Association.
Mrs. Shriver was a supporter of Russell Child Development Center, was active with the Kearny County Historical Society and helped to coordinate the publishing of the Kearny County history book, and was a member of the Kansas Genealogical Societies of Finney County, Dodge City and Topeka.
On June 27, 1936, she married Oliver W. Shriver at Garden City. He died March 22, 1984, at Lakin. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Jones and Rowena Urie; and three nephews, Jack Urie, Kenny Urie and Doug Jones.
Survivors include two nephews, Keith Jones, Lakin, and Gary Jones, Tyrone, Okla.; three nieces, Carol Sue Salvati, San Diego, Betty Young, Bend, Ore., and Edythe Ann Niskanen, Portland, Ore.; and several cousins.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Garden City Community College Endowment Association, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Duane F. Schneider
TRIBUNE -- Funeral for Duane F. Schneider, 79, was to be 2 p.m. MST today at the United Methodist Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Keith Fink officiating. Burial was to follow in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune, with military graveside honors conducted.
Mr. Schneider died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.
He was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Stafford County, the son of Edward H. and Laura (Fritzemeier) Schneider.
A Greeley County resident since 1946, Mr. Schneider was a farmer/stockman and had served as a U.S. Navy pilot during World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW, Kansas Livestock Association and the National Cattleman Association and was a life master of the American Bridge Association.
On Dec. 24, 1943, he married Zenaide Burnett at Corpus Christi, Texas. She died Sept. 30, 1993, at Tribune. On Oct. 16, 1994, he married Glenna Farmer at Tribune. She survives.
He is also survived by five sons, Duane N., Steve, Brad, Scott and Dirk, all of Tribune; a stepson, Tom Farmer, Las Vegas; a stepdaughter, Jeri Wallis, Las Vegas; a brother, Ervin, Tribune; a sister, Velma Koelsch, St. John; 24 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Juanita Violet Beesley
HUGOTON -- Funeral for Juanita Violet Beesley, 79, of Hugoton, was to be 2 p.m. today at First Church of God, Hugoton, with the Rev. Joe Downs officiating. Burial was to follow in Hugoton Cemetery.
Mrs. Beesley died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton.
She was born Sept. 19, 1920, at Beavers Corner in rural Stevens County, the daughter of Leva and Bessie (Burrows) Beavers. She graduated from Florence (Colo.) High School in 1939.
A longtime resident of Hugoton, she taught school in rural Hugoton, was a homemaker and a Tupperware dealer, and belonged to First Church of God.
On May 27, 1947, she married Walter Wade Beesley at Hugoton. He died Dec. 26, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby.
She is survived by four sons, Walter W. Jr. and Roger M., both of Hugoton, Royce L. Newport, Ark., and James L., Garden City; a daughter, Peggy R. Rose, DeSoto, Texas; two brothers, Alvin Beavers, Liberal, and Melvin Beavers, Garden Grove, Calif.; two sisters, Alberta Willsey, Hugoton, and Leta Rose Bernard, Livonia, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials are suggested to the First Church of God Building Fund, in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.
Manford DeWain Kimberly
Memorial service for Manford DeWain Kimberly, 67, of Bella Vista, Ark., was to be 1:30 p.m. today at Bella Vista Community Church, with the Rev. David McKay officiating.
Mr. Kimberly died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at his home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1932, at Greensburg, the son of Frank and Jenny Kimberly.
A resident of Bella Vista since moving there 13 years ago from Omaha, he worked for the Enron Corporation for more than 30 years and was a school bus driver for the Bentonville schools for more than 11 years.
Mr. Kimberly was a member of the Elks Lodge in Garden City and belonged to the Men's Golf Association in Bella Vista.
He is survived by his wife, Margo Kimberly, Bella Vista; two sons, Dirk Kimberly, Garden City, and Dean Kimberly, Shawnee; a daughter, Kara Stockton, Bella Vista; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Kimberly; and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., Bella Vista, AR 72715.
