Frank Parker Stowers
Funeral for former Garden City resident Frank Parker Stowers, 94, of Lawson, Mo., was to be 2 p.m. today at Jarman Chapel in Lawson. Burial was to follow in Lawson Cemetery.
Mr. Stowers died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Excelsior Springs (Mo.) Medical Center.
He was born July 7, 1905, at Mexico, Mo., the son of Benjamin and Judith (Fletcher) Stowers. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Reynolds Metal in Los Angeles before his retirement and had lived in the Lawson area since 1997.
Mr. Stowers is survived by his wife, Treva (Pettz) Stowers, and several nieces and nephews.
Ruby F. Schwindt
LEOTI -- Ruby F. Schwindt, 81, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Wichita County Hospital in Leoti.
She was born May 11, 1918, in Wichita County, the daughter of Robert and Hessie (Brock) Ford. A lifetime Wichita County resident, she was a homemaker and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Scott City.
On Feb. 7, 1938, she married Le Roy Schwindt at Walsenburg, Colo. He survives. Other survivors are three sons, Bill, Black Forest, Colo., Melvin, Marble Falls, Texas, and Steven, Leoti; three daughters, Dorothy Lorenz, Denver, Denise Davis, Security, Colo., and Shelley Ferre-Dussel, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a brother, Glenn Ford, Leoti; three sisters, Louise Terrel of Anthony, Evagene Harbach, Pueblo West, Colo., and Doris Martin, Greeley, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Clark Harbach officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery
in rural Wichita County.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to Wichita County Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
Gertrude M. Hewson
Gertrude M. Hewson, 79, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at her home in Garden City.
She was born Aug. 14, 1920, at Mound City, Mo., the daughter of Cyrus and Claudia (Seitz) Selders. She attended schools at Larned and then worked at a bakery in Larned.
On Sept. 3, 1943, she married Harry Paul Hewson at Larned. In 1947 they moved to Garden City, where she assisted him on the farm. She spent most of her life taking care of her daughter, and also enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center and volunteering at Emmaus House.
Mrs. Hewson was a member and deaconess of Church of the Brethren of Garden City, belonged to Happy Homemakers EHU, was a past project leader of Happy Hustlers 4-H Club and past president of Holcomb PTO.
She is survived by a son, Paul Hewson, and a daughter, Lorine Hewson, both of Garden City; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Jan. 17, 1972; and a daughter, Linda Hewson.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Gary Meeks officiating. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday in Larned Cemetery.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Church of the Brethren or Emmaus House, both in care of the funeral home.
Velma Madeline Hansen
Funeral for Velma Madeline Hansen, 85, of La Crosse, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be in Wallace Cemetery, Jewell, with the Rev. Vernon Snider officiating.
Mrs. Hansen died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse.
She was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Jewell County, the daughter of Earl J. and Christine (Elniff) Stauffer. After high school, she graduated from Asbury Hospital School at Salina in 1937. She worked as a nurse at Baker Hospital and later at Rush County Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1974.
Mrs. Hansen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alexander and La Crosse, United Methodist Women and the Golden Keys Advisory Board at La Crosse. She enjoyed cooking, visiting people and church work.
She is survived by two sons, Jon Hansen, Garden City, and Earl Hansen, Papillion, Neb.; three brothers, Melvin Stauffer, Creston, Iowa, Edward Stauffer, Newton, and Gaylord Stauffer, Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married March 29, 1941, at Randall; two brothers, Loreen Stauffer and Donald Stauffer; and a sister, Emma Roberts.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church at La Crosse or Alexander, in care of the funeral home.
Debra M. Goff
FRIEND -- Debra M. Goff, 43, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Via Christi Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born Aug. 16, 1956, at Dodge City, the daughter of Cecil Perry and Dorothy Mae (Prescott) George.
A resident of Friend since 1992, moving from Garden City, she had been a salesperson for the Broncbuster Book Store at Garden City Community College.
On June 17, 1977, she married Frank R. Goff at Garden City. He survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Catrina M. Goff, of the home; and five sisters, Linda Grover, Pueblo, Colo., Shirley Herman, Rocky Ford, Colo., Beulah Myers, Lakin, Lulla Belle Fahnert and Loreli Smith, both of Amarillo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ronnie George; and a sister, Dorothy Behm.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Martin Gauby officiating. Burial will be in Prairie View Church Cemetery, Friend.

Leonard G. Danler
DEERFIELD -- Vigil service for Leonard G. Danler, 70, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by parish rosary and Knights of Columbus rosary. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Revs. James E. Baker and Austin Herrmann as celebrants. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.
Mr. Danler died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at his home in Finney County.
He was born Aug. 10, 1929, in Edwards County, the son of Alphonsus and Helena (Hahn) Danler. He grew up in the Kinsley area, attended rural grade schools and graduated from high school at Windthorst.
A lifetime farmer, Mr. Danler had been a Finney County resident since moving to his farm in 1947. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Garden City, Christ the King Catholic Church of Deerfield and the Eagles Lodge of Garden City, and was an honorary life member and third degree Knights of Columbus No. 2795 at Garden City. He enjoyed playing cards, Yatzee and Farkel.
On Nov. 9, 1949, he married Lucy Mary Bayer at Kinsley. She survives.
Other survivors are six sons, LeRoy Danler, Holcomb, Gerald Danler, Terry Danler and Bill Danler, all of Deerfield, Bob Danler, Wamego, and Alphonsus Nicholas Danler, Derby; seven daughters, Ginger Baier, Carol Leonard and Diane Dickson, all of Holcomb, Shirley Boman, Fisco, Texas, Susan Sloan and Connie Ronck, both of Wichita, and Judy Kallaus, Kinsley; a brother, LaVern Danler, Kinsley; six sisters, Emma Brungardt, Garden City, Mary Elmore, Baytown, Texas, Kate Novack, Deerfield, Theresa Wilkerson, Kinsley, Helen Haberman, Larned, and Rose Ann Hawley, Scandia, Minn.; six stepbrothers, Fritz Feist, Ellinwood, Richard Feist, Claflin, Lawrence Feist, Colorado, Martin Feist, Minnesota, Sam Feist, Arkansas City, and Marvin Feist, Illinois; two stepsisters, Catherine Doll, Ingalls, and Marilee Hushig, Ellinwood; 28 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Eva Feist Danler; two daughters, Marie McVey and Mary Catherine Danler; two brothers, Sylvester Danler and Melvin Danler; two stepbrothers, Linus Feist and Tony Feist; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Mary School, Emmaus House or Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, all in care of the funeral home.
Alice Rosella Schoor
Alice Rosella Schoor, 76, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
She was born April 4, 1923, at Garden City, the daughter of Claude Forrest and Effie Jane (Moody) McQueen. She grew up south of Holcomb, moved to Holcomb in her teen years and later moved to Garden City.
On Aug. 2, 1942, she married Harry E. Schoor at Garden City. He died Dec. 11, 1996. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Claude McQueen Jr. and Warren McQueen.
A homemaker, Mrs. Schoor also did ironing for people in Garden City and she worked as a nurse's aide at St. Catherine Hospital for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a member of Church of the Brethren and the Christian Motorcycle Association, and served as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed motorcycles, church quilting sessions and camping.
She is survived by a son, George Mitchell Schoor, Garden City; a daughter, Ellen Irene Leighty, Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, William "Bill" McQueen, Garden City, and Donald McQueen, Alamosa, Colo.; two sisters, Gladys Wagner, Garden City, and Mary Jane Martinez, San Jose, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Gary Meeks officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Alice Schoor Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
