Marge Philbrick
Marge Philbrick, 81, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
Born Feb. 6, 1918, she was the daughter of Steven Wallace and Maude (Markey) Patterson.
A Garden City resident since 1952, she and Dr. Charles Philbrick were married here on July 21, 1952.
She worked with her husband at his dental practice, working as a dental hygienist and a secretary.
A homemaker, she enjoyed antiques, her volunteer work and dancing.
She attended St. Thomas' Episcopal Church and later attended St. Dominic Catholic Church, was a member of the Senior Center, worked as a Gray Lady at St. Catherine Hospital, served as a Scout leader for many years and worked many volunteer hours in the community.
Her husband died on May 19, 1985.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald.
She is survived by a son, Mike Philbrick, Inman; two daughters, Barbara Fief, Sacramento, Calif., and Krista Thomas, Kenosha, Wis.; a sister, Mary Alice Wainwright, Las Cruces, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating.
Private family graveside service will take place in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, prior to the memorial service.
Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.
Henry D. Summers
LEOTI -- Henry D. Summers, 98, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at Wichita County Hospital in Leoti.
He was born July 11, 1901, at Marengo, Ind., the son of David M. and Anna S. (Bates) Summers.
He moved to Kearny County in April 1907 and to Leoti in 1972.
A farmer and stockman, Mr. Summers was a member of the United Methodist Church of Leoti.
On March 27, 1929, he married Alice R. Elder at Leoti.
She survives.
Other survivors are four sons, Roy Summers, Advance, N.C., Don Summers, Lakin, Merle Summers, Blackwell, Okla., and Howard Summers, Garden City; five daughters, Dorothy Harbin and Helen Ridder, both of Leoti, Delora Stites, Midlothian, Va., Bess Brown, Salt Lake City, and Barbara Heili, Garden City; 26 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Susan Charest Wickiser officiating.
Burial will be in Wichita County Cemetery, Leoti.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti, with remembrance and visitation with the family from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Wichita County Hospital, the Senior Citizens Center or the church, all in care of the funeral home.
Katharine 'Kay' Kelly
Katharine "Kay" Kelly, 81, of Bristow, Okla., died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999.
Born in Garden City on Nov. 17, 1918, she was the daughter of Dr. Charles and Sarah (McGee) Rewerts.
She graduated from Garden City High School in 1936 and later graduated from the University of Kansas.
In 1952, she married Albert Kelly at Green Mountain Falls, Colo.
He died in 1977.
She was also preceded in death by a sister.
Mrs. Kelly had been a resident of Bristow for more than 47 years, having previously lived in Dallas and Washington, D.C.
She was an active member and elder of Bristow Presbyterian Church, and also belonged to the PEO and the Culture Club.
She enjoyed reading, politics and her family.
She is survived by a son, Albert C. "Kell" Kelly, Bristow; four grandchildren; her caregiver and friend, Marie Mann, Bristow; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was 10 a.m. Nov. 29 in Bristow City Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church.
Memorials are suggested to the Bristow Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, both in care of Hutchins-Maples Funeral Home, Bristow.
Marie Heinrichs
ULYSSES -- Marie Heinrichs, 90, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at Lone Tree Nursing Home in Meade, where she had been a resident since 1990, having previously lived in Ulysses for 15 years.
She was born Aug. 21, 1909, at Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of Barnhard D. and Helena (Plett) Doerksen.
In 1916, she moved to Haskell County, where she had resided for most of her life.
On Dec. 27, 1953, she married Herbert D. Heinrichs at Pleasant Prairie Church of God, Satanta.
He died Feb. 14, 1969.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Mrs. Heinrichs was a member of Patterson Avenue Church of God, Ulysses.
She quilted, did washing and housework for many people in the area, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by a brother, Henry H. Doerksen, rural Satanta; a sister-in-law, Kay Doerksen, rural Satanta; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Prairie Church of God, Satanta.
Fred Hauck and David Andrews, pastors, will officiate.
Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette.
