George Robert Kallaus
Vigil service for George Robert Kallaus, 88, of Kinsley, will be at 7:30 tonight at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Kinsley. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. William Vogel officiating. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Kallaus, who did business in southwest Kansas, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley.
He was born Aug. 9, 1911, at Parsons, the son of George H. and Emalie (Habiger) Kallaus. A longtime resident of Kinsley, he was a retired farmer. He belonged to St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus St. Edwards Council, both at Kinsley.
On Jan. 22, 1935, he married Marie M. Schinstock at Kinsley. She died Sept. 3, 1999. He was also preceded in death by five brothers.
He is survived by three sons, Robert L. and Ronald E., both of Kinsley, and Gerald, Pickerington, Ohio; three daughters, Barbara Lightner, Vienna, Va., Leona Jantz, Lincroft, N.J., and Alice Fisher, Kinsley; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley. Memorials are suggested to the St. Nicholas School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Clark Edward Lee
Clark Edward Lee, 55, of Augusta, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Wichita.
He was born Jan. 7, 1944, at Garden City, the son of Lawrence O. and Enid E. (Ernest) Lee.
Mr. Lee was a supervisor for Seeber Thermoforming and Manufacturing in Augusta.
He is survived by six daughters, Kimberly Mitchell, Kansas City, Lisa Bach, Audra Wishnon and Stacy Lee, all of Garden City, Janell Vallejo, Lawrence, and Heidi Lee, Wichita; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Glenda Denton, Garden City, and Nancy Francis, Houston; a brother, Gene Lee, Parsons; and his mother, Enid Lee, Garden City.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta.
Merl B. Lindner
SYRACUSE -- The funeral for Merl B. Lindner, 81, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bible Christian Church, Garden City, with Mark Ingmire officiating. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. MST Tuesday in Syracuse Cemetery.
Mr. Lindner died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Hamilton County Extended Care Home in Syracuse.
He was born April 4, 1918, at Garden City, the son of William Frederick and Ethel Mae (Folston) Lindner. He graduated from Lakin High School.
A farmer and rancher, he had lived in Kendall from 1928 until 1967. He moved to Garden City in 1989 and to Syracuse in November of this year. He was a charter member of Bible Christian Church of Garden City, and a former member of Kendall School Board, Odd Fellows and the Elks.
On June 18, 1941, he married Addie Mae Martin at Garden City. She survives. Other survivors are four daughters, Mary Swift, Pampa, Texas, Kay Potter, Syracuse, Jeannie Spor, Garden City, and Marilyn Knight, Holcomb; a sister, Mildred Redd, Syracuse; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford; and a sister, Thelma Palmer.
Visitation hours are until 8 MST tonight at Greene Funeral Home, Syracuse, and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church in Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Pseudo Obstruction Research Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
Merle Nix
HUGOTON -- Funeral for Merle Nix, 90, a lifetime resident of the Liberal area, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Western Avenue Church of Christ, with Glenn Walton officiating. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.
Mr. Nix died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born Jan. 3, 1909, in Beaver County, the son of Armor and Mabel (Price) Nix.
A lifetime farmer and rancher in the Liberal area, he was a member of Western Avenue Church of Christ, Farm Bureau, American Angus Association and the Kansas Livestock Association.
On Sept. 22, 1934, he married Florence B. Gooch at Liberal. She died March 17, 1989, at Liberal. He was also preceded in death by a brother.
He is survived by a son, Tony Nix, Hugoton; two daughters, Janet Anderson, Amarillo, Texas, and Linda Hittle, Hugoton; a brother, Melvin Nix, Woodward, Okla.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kitch Funeral Home, Liberal. Memorials are suggested to Church of Christ in Hugoton, in care of the funeral home or the church.
Josephine M. Raya
Parish rosary for Josephine M. Raya, 74, of Hutchinson, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson & Sons Memorial Chapel, Hutchinson. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with the Rev. Ned Blick officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson.
Mrs. Raya died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born April 16, 1925, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Condido and Petra (Sanchez) Marado. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, she was a homemaker and belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in South Hutchinson.
She is survived by a son, Dennis Raya, Hutchinson; three daughters, Irene Hubbs and Patricia Alexander, both of Hutchinson, and Helen Smith, Wichita; a sister, Frances Servantez, Garden City; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Guadalupe Cabral and Jesus Cabral; and a sister, Lucy Orozco.

Jesse Cruz Rodriguez Jr.
Vigil service for Jesse Cruz Rodriguez Jr., 26, will be at 8 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Rodriguez died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born July 20, 1973, at Dodge City, the son of Jesse Cruz and Ruth (Garcia) Rodriguez Sr.
A lifetime resident of Garden City, he attended Garden City schools and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed collecting Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan posters, as well as collecting balloons, and enjoyed watching television and listening to music.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Jurado, Garden City; his father, Jesse Cruz Rodriguez Sr., Garden City; four brothers, Bobby Rodriguez, Cippy Rodriguez and Daniel Jurado, all of Garden City, and Joey Rodriguez, Lawrence; a sister, Toni Rodriguez, Garden City; his grandfathers, Manuel Garcia, Garden City, and Jose Rodriguez, Dimmitt, Texas; and his caretaker, Alba Luz Torres, Garden City. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers.

Eunice Lorene Owen
Eunice Lorene Owen, 90, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
She was born March 10, 1909, at Hale, Mo., the daughter of Elbert and Anna V. (McClure) Colliver. She was a resident of Garden City since 1950, when she moved from Scott City, and taught piano lessons out of her home for many years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, as well as the Methodist Women's Circle and the Piano Teachers' League. She was also a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
On March 17, 1923, she married H. Harold Owen at Hale, Mo. He died Dec., 1973 in Garden City. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.
Survivors include a son, Charles Owen of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; two daughters, Anna Lou Wheaton of Dodge City and Cheryl Harman of Garden City; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery.
Calling times are noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Eunice L. Owen Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
