Clarence H. 'Bud' Danford
Clarence H. "Bud" Danford, 89, of Black Forest, Colo., died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was born Sept. 9, 1910, at Burdett, to Harry H. and Mabell (DeWeese) Danford.
Prior to moving to Colorado Springs in 1946, he was owner of Danford Bus Line in Garden City, had been an electrician and owned Danford Electric, played a roll in bringing Mountain View Electric to Black Forest and in the pre-redistricting of District No. 20, was an avid supporter of Boy Scouts and was the recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award.
A resident of Black Forest for 50 years, he served on the Black Forest Volunteer Fire Department, and was a longtime member of Black Forest Community Club and Boy Scout Troop No. 70.
He is survived by his wife, Alta (Kimball) Danford, whom he married on Nov. 22, 1934; two daughters, Sheila A. Bishop, Black Forest, and Deborah S. Andretti, Colorado Springs; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral was 1 p.m. Dec. 21 at Black Forest Community Church, followed by burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery
in Colorado Springs.
The family suggests donations be sent to Boy Scout Troop No. 70, 10845 Howells Road, Black Forest, CO 80908.
Pikes Peak Funeral & Cremation Services, Colorado Springs, was in charge of arrangements.
Cyril Francis Kraus
Parish vigil for Cyril Francis Kraus, 80, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Aloysius Church, Ransom, with the Rev. Gregory LeBlanc officiating. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Marvin Reif officiating. Burial will be in Ransom Cemetery.
Mr. Kraus died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom.
He was born May 15, 1919, at Ransom, the son of Joseph and Matilda (Young) Kraus.
A lifetime resident of Ransom, he was a retired postmaster of the Ransom Post Office, was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, a third- and fourth-degree member of Knights of Columbus, and belonged to VFW Post 7972 and the National Association of Postmasters.
On Nov. 15, 1948, he married Twilla Lyon Combest at Ransom. She survives.
Other survivors are a son, Brad Kraus, Dodge City; two daughters, Shirley Stegman, Topeka, and Marie Ney, Hanston; two brothers, Hugo Kraus, Ransom, and Norbert Kraus, Garden City; a sister, Marcella Lutters, Ransom; a stepson, Dirk Combest, Dodge City; a stepdaughter, Signe Barnes, McCracken; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Florian, Ralph, Leo, Albert and Earl; and two sisters, Josephine Ketzner and Mary Hilmes.
Visitation hours are until 4 tonight at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and from 6 to 9 tonight at the church in Ransom. Memorials are suggested to Ransom VFW or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home.
Clyde 'Bud' Addison
INGALLS -- Funeral for Clyde "Bud" Addison, 79, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with the Rev. Dick Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City.
Mr. Addison died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at his home in Dodge City.
He was born June 2, 1920, at Ingalls, the son of Earl Clyde and Grace Dell (Israel) Addison. He grew up on a farm south of Ingalls and graduated from Ingalls High School in 1938.
In 1942, he moved to Burbank, Calif., where he married Elaine Goddard on June 19, 1943. They returned to Dodge City in 1952.
Mr. Addison was employed by Cave Motors, Sellers Motors and Dave Gambill Chevrolet, and then owned and operated Manis Glass & Body Shop, all at Dodge City, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, St. Bernard Lodge No. 222 AF&AM, was a 32nd degree Mason and belonged to Midian Shrine of Wichita.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Greg Addison, Dodge City; a daughter, Shari Padgham, Marion; a sister, Erlene Flowers, Dodge City; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie or the First United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home.
Martha Wilma Dikeman
SYRACUSE -- Martha Wilma Dikeman, 99, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse.
She was born May 2, 1900, at Cub Run, Ky., the daughter of William Henry and Nancy Wilson Gonteman Allen.
A homemaker, she had been a Hamilton County resident since 1934, moving from Pratt County. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, a former member of the Home Demonstration Unit and a past matron of Eastern Star, all at Syracuse.
On May 29, 1919, she married William Frederick Dikeman at Hutchinson. He died Jan. 31, 1992.
She is survived by three sons, Duane C., Darrel and Larry, all of Syracuse; two daughters, Valeta Rosenkranz, Manhattan, and Margie Dale, Las Vegas; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service and inurnment are planned for a later date. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Greene Funeral Home, Syracuse.
Cecil Eugene 'Gene' Dunn
SYRACUSE -- Graveside service for Cecil Eugene "Gene" Dunn, 74, will be 1 p.m. MST Tuesday in Syracuse Cemetery, with the Rev. Gene Slack officiating.
Mr. Dunn died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
He was born May 10, 1925, at Clements, the son of Kale and Ila (Cornwell) Dunn.
After graduating from Syracuse High School, he attended Barber College. He and his brother, Bob, operated Dunn Barbershop in Syracuse for 20 years before he became an auctioneer. He was associated with the Syracuse Sale Co. until 1967 when he moved to Limon, Colo., where he worked for Limon Livestock Co. Upon his retirement in 1991, he moved to Oklahoma City.
Mr. Dunn was a member of the United Methodist Church and the VFW. He served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II.
In 1945, he married Adelaide Booth at Cheyenne, Wyo. She died in 1988. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Toby McPherson, in 1990.
He married June Hanson in 1989 at Oklahoma City. She survives. Other survivors are a son, Larry, Seattle; a stepdaughter, Linda Chandler, Oklahoma City; a brother, Robert L., Syracuse; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandson.
Visitation hours are until 8 MST tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia Society of America, in care of the funeral home.
Carole Ann 'Eddie' Jennings
Funeral for Carole Ann "Eddie" Jennings, 53, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kismet United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Vernon Maelzer officiating. Burial will be in Kismet Cemetery.
Mrs. Jennings died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at her home in Kismet, after an extended illness.
She was born June 13, 1946, at Garden City, the daughter of Virl S. and Mary L. (Yohn) Eddie. She grew up in Ulysses, graduated from Ulysses High School in 1964 and graduated from Certified Business College in Denver.
Active in community and civic affairs, she was Kismet City Clerk for 25 years, secretary of the Seward County Fair Board and most recently was bookkeeper for Doyle Jennings Trenching & Backhoe. She was a member of Kismet United Methodist Church, Kismet Town Cryers, Kismet Little Worlds Fair Board and the Two Tired Motorcycle Club.
On Aug. 2, 1965, she married Doyle W. Jennings at Denver. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Jeff Jennings, Weatherford, Okla., and Jason Jennings, Kismet; a daughter, Barb Ryan, Kismet; two brothers, Maurice Eddie, Kalispel, Mont., and Steve Eddie, Ulysses; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Don Eddie; and a grandson.
