Virginia Buckner
ULYSSES -- Graveside service for Virginia Buckner, 74, a longtime resident of Ulysses before moving to Manhattan, will be 10 a.m. Friday in Ulysses Cemetery, with Dr. Max Clayton officiating.
Mrs. Buckner died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Mercy Health Center in Manhattan.
She was born May 24, 1925, in Seward County, the daughter of Harry T. and Daisy J. (Campton) Walden.
On June 12, 1943, she married Leonard Clifford "Cliff" Buckner in Washington State. He died March 20, 1978. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Sara Hadsell, Edith Eyman and Helen Stout.
Mrs. Buckner moved from Ulysses to Manhattan four years ago to be near her daughter. A homemaker, she had formerly worked as an insurance claims assistant for Dr. Dodson's Medical Office in Ulysses.
She loved to read, was an avid bird watcher, and was an amateur anthropologist having donated an extensive collection of Indian artifacts to the Grant County Museum.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Conderman, Manhattan; a brother, Don Walden, Truth or Consequences, N.M.; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson; a stepgreat-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours are 6:30 to 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Meadowlark Foundation, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.
Victor N. Hahn
Vigil service for Victor N. Hahn, 72, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus rosary. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.
Mr. Hahn died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Jan. 6, 1927, at Great Bend, the son of George and Minerva (Myers) Hahn. He grew up in Kinsley and attended grade school there. The family moved to Garden City in 1942 and he graduated from Garden City High School.
Mr. Hahn worked for 23 years as a delivery operator for Santa Fe Trail Transportation Co., then worked for five years for the Garden City Co-op, and later worked for 10 years as a shipping and receiving clerk at St. Catherine Hospital. He retired in 1989. For the last 40 years, he also coordinated and provided a lawn care service in Garden City.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, served as a parish council member and as a St. Mary School Board member and once served as a Eucharistic minister at the church. He was a fourth-degree member of Knights of Columbus No. 2795, belonged to the Eagles Lodge and was once involved in the Boy Scouts with his family. He enjoyed his yard work, dancing and playing cards.
On April 28, 1948, he married Pauline E. Bayer at Willowdale. She survives. He is also survived by four sons, Bernard Hahn, Liberal, Dennis Hahn, Ardmore, Okla., Ernest Hahn, Fort Collins, Colo., and Leon Hahn, Garden City; four daughters, Darlene Shaver, Emporia, Jane Lightner, Pierceville, Donna Oberley, Dodge City, and Nancy Robinson, Valley Center; a brother, Wendell Hahn, Fayetteville, Ark.; two sisters, Elnora Butler, Garden City, and Marie Unruh, Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; 46 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Hahn; four brothers, Laurence Hahn, Ellis Hahn, Francis Hahn and Lester "Hap" Hahn; a sister, Doris Webb; and a great-grandson.
Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Clark Edward Lee
Clark Edward Lee, 55, of Augusta, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Wichita.
He was born Jan. 7, 1944, at Garden City, the son of Lawrence O. and Enid E. (Earnest) Lee.
Mr. Lee was a supervisor for Seeber Thermoforming and Manufacturing in Augusta.
He is survived by six daughters, Kimberly Mitchell, Kansas City, Lisa Back, Audra Wishon and Staci Lee, all of Garden City, Janelle Vallejo, Lawrence, and Heidi Lee, Wichita; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Glenda Denton, Garden City, and Nancy Francis, Houston; a brother, Gene Lee, Parsons; and his mother, Enid Lee, Garden City.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta.
Hugo Carl Peterson
SCOTT CITY -- Hugo Carl Peterson, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
He was born Nov. 24, 1914, in Greeley County, the son of John and Frieda (Anderson) Peterson.
A Scott City resident since 1987, moving from Tribune, he was a grain elevator operator and an agricultural exterminator until his retirement. He was a member of the Lutheran faith, Odd Fellows, Eagles and the Elks Lodge.
On Nov. 23, 1937, he married Beulah Mae Thon at Syracuse. She died Nov. 30, 1981, at Leoti. He was also preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
On Feb. 24, 1983, he married Maxine Marie Blau in Wichita County. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Robert Peterson, Atlanta, and Don Scott, Scott City; six daughters, Janice Elder and Linda Smades, both of Leoti, Barbara Kerschen, Denver, Tamara Wilcoxson, Pamela Emberton and Sheila Brau, all of Scott City; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. CST Friday at Community Christian Church, Scott City, with Jeff Arnold and the Rev. A.T. McKinnley officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. MT Friday in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to Scott County Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
Marguerite Pearl Ryman
Funeral for Marguerite Pearl Ryman, 81, of Elkhart, was 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Elkhart, with the Rev. Ken Van officiating. Burial was in Elkhart Cemetery.
Mrs. Ryman died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
She was born Dec. 11, 1918, at Sun City, the daughter of Earl Quincy and Edith Genevieve (Fulton) Smith.
An Elkhart resident since 1937, she was a homemaker and belonged to the United Methodist Church and was a former member of Eastern Star.
On March 19, 1940, she married Leonard Ryman at Brownsville, Texas. He died Dec. 14, 1993.
She is survived by four sons, Jim Ryman and Jerry Ryman, both of Elkhart, Jon Ryman, Garden City, and Joe Ryman, Pueblo, Colo.; four daughters, Robbin Barlettano, Holcomb, Susan Turner and Becky Parker, both of Elkhart, and Jan Harriman, Columbia, Mo.; a brother, Robert Q. Smith, Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Earldene Orth, Elkhart, Adeline Heflin, Guymon, Okla., and Eilene Welicky, Wichita; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, 444 Stillman, Elkhart, KS 67950.

Emma Elizabeth Coulter
Funeral for Emma Elizabeth Coulter, 82, of Helena, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Plains Church of the Brethren near McWillie, Okla., officiated by the Rev. Elsie Koehn. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery
near Helena.
Mrs. Coulter died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Great Plains Care Center in Helena.
She was born March 6, 1917, in Major County, Okla., at the family farm northeast of Cleo Springs, the daughter of Tom and Hazel (Davison) Wilcox.
She attended her first three years of school at Elm Flat School west of her farm home, attended one year at Happy Valley School west of her home, completed the eighth grade at Elm Flat School and attended two years of high school at Cleo Springs.
On April 18, 1936, she married Glenn Coulter at the home of Sam Ayers, pastor of Aline Church of the Brethren. He died March 3, 1994. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Dan, Harry and Leonard; and two sisters, Ella Francis and Zirtha.
Mrs. Coulter was baptized April 19, 1953, at Church of the Brethren in Garden City. She moved many times with her family and worked outside the home when necessary to help provide for the family. She enjoyed making clothes for her children.
After suffering deteriorating physical health following knee replacement, her husband cared for her in the home for several years before she moved into Great Plains Care Center at Helena.
She is survived by two sons, Don Coulter, Garden City, and Leland Coulter, Mountain Park, Okla.; a daughter, Devonna Snider, Helena; a sister, Ethelyn Nicholson, Waynoka, Okla.; a brother, Alvin Wilcox, Cleo Springs; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
