Margaret Cecil Cooper
Margaret Cecile Cooper, 90, of Hugoton died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, Colo. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Church of God, Hugoton, with the Rev. Harold Ausbun officiating. Interment will be at the Hugoton Cemetery.
Mrs. Cooper was born April 22, 1909, in Morton County, of William F. and Rebecca Jane (Mayes) Garmon. She married Howard C. Cooper on July 12, 1925 in Richfield. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1991.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Ernest, Ben, Charles, Leslie and Lee; and two sisters, Ella and Berneace.
She lived the last two years in Lamar, Colo., moving there from Hugoton.
She is survived by a son, William B. Cooper of Wichita; a daughter, Helen L. Ausbun of Lamar; a sister, Doris Swink of Garden City; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials are directed to the American Heart Association through Paul's Funeral Home of Hugoton.
Letha Gertrude Svoboda
HUGOTON -- Letha Gertrude Svoboda, 89, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born May 13, 1910, at Alva, Okla., the daughter of George Oliver and Emma Marcus (Peoples) Coombes.
A resident of Hugoton since 1995, she had formerly lived in Johnson, Manter and Pueblo, Colo. She had worked as a seamstress, a licensed practical nurse and a psychiatric technician at Colorado State Hospital.
On Sept. 29, 1928, she married Charles Ira Curtis at Beaver, Okla. He died June 29, 1952. On May 4, 1966, she married Louis Victor Svoboda. He died in 1983.
She is survived by a son, Charles Ira Curtis Jr., Medford, Ore.; two daughters, Geneva Wilson, Hugoton, and Jerry Lee Night, Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Levela Sipes and Geneva Hale, both of Johnson; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Johnson, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson.
Memorials are suggested to the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.
Icy May Maybree Haunschild
Icy May Maybree Haunschild, 86, a former area resident, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999.
She was born July 22, 1914, at Walnut Ridge, Ark.
A former resident of Garden City and Deerfield, she had lived in Alaska for several years.
She is survived by five sons, three daughters and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, several sons and a daughter.
Cremation has taken place, with the ashes cast along the shores of Alaska.
Viola Lydia Frazier
Viola Lydia Frazier, 92, Garden City, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at St. Catherine Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Valley View Cemetery
with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating.
Mrs. Frazier was born Jan. 14, 1908, at Lyons, the daughter of Adolph and Selma Lee (Korf) Hohl. She married Otis D. Frazier on Nov. 27, 1928. He died June 17, 1972.
A member of the United Methodist Church in Garden City, Mrs. Frazier was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a grandson.
She is survived by a son, Darrell J. Frazier of Garden City; a daughter, Elva Lee Wright of Garden City; two brothers, Melvin Hohl of Pittsburg, and Marvin Hohl of Colorado; two sisters, Althea Fulton of Great Bend, and Wilma Haney of Canon City, Colo.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Memorials may be made to Garden Valley Retirement Village in care of the funeral home.
Linda L. Puyear
Linda L. Puyear, 57, died Dec. 4, 1999, at Garden Valley Retirement Village, Garden City.
She was born Dec. 20, 1941, at Garden City, the daughter of W.R. and Lena Ophelua (Wheeler) Puyear. She was raised in Johnson and in 1978 moved to Garden City, where she lived and worked at Southwest Developmental Services Inc.
Survivors include one brother, Loran Puyear, Denver, and a sister, Lois Davis, Santa Cruz, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Graveside services will be Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Stanton County Cemetery, Rev. Glenn Fogo officiating.
Friends may call on Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Clifford Hayden Pendergraft
Clifford Hayden Pendergraft, 69, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, as the result of a traffic accident.
Mr. Clifford was born Nov. 14, 1930, at Pineville, the son of Jesse Dewey and Eva Mae (Chrisman) Pendergraft. He moved to southwest Kansas in 1949 and moved back to Pineville in 1960. He had worked as a heavy equipment mechanic.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Pendergraft of Satanta and Kent Pendergraft of Garden City; a daughter, Sandra Gayle Carter of Satanta; two brothers, Jesse Pendergraft of Noel, Mo., and Alvin Pendergraft of Siloam Springs, Ark.; three sisters, Mable Wilkerson of Bentonville, Ark., Ona Rupe and Elsie Davis, both of Fort Smith, Ark.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Brush Creek Cemetery
in Jane, Mo., with the Rev. Jamie Cope officiating.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Ozark Funeral Home in Pineville, Mo. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Dolores C. Rayas
Funeral Mass for Dolores C. Rayas, 85, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Rayas died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 22, 1914, in Mexico, the daughter of Catarino and Francisca (Trevino) Coronado. The family moved to Deerfield when she was a child.
On Oct. 9, 1938, she married Jess V. Rayas at Deerfield and they moved to Holcomb. He died Sept. 27, 1988.
Mrs. Rayas moved to Garden City in 1989. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
She is survived by a son, Gabe Rayas, Salina; three daughters, Mary Stovall, Tommie Towns and Jennie Valenzuela, all of Garden City; three brothers, Cleto Coronado and Prudencio Coronado, both of Humboldt, and Hilario Coronado, Mexico; two sisters, Valentina Coronado and Hilaria Neri, both of Mexico; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
