Beatrice J. Reule
Beatrice J. Reule, 69, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center--St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
She was born June 22, 1930, in Goodrich, N.D., the daughter of Benjamin W. and Selma L. (Bauer) Lang. She moved from Denhoff, N.D. to Garden City in 1966 and worked as a salesperson for the Sears store in Garden City for many years.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Garden City, participating in the senior adult ministries, the women's ministries and the care group. She was also a member of the Finney County Senior Center and a past member of the Denhoff Homemakers Club in Denhoff, N.D.
She married Herbert Reule at McCluskey, N.D., July 1, 1947. He died Oct. 31, 1997, in Garden City.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Bill Lang.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis D. Reule of St. Joseph, Mo., and Donald T. Reule of Garden City; one daughter, Elrita Reule of Garden City; two brothers, Lee Lang of Stockton, Calif., and Larry Lang of Bismarck, N.D.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Nazarene, the Rev. Craig Coulter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.
Calling times are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today.
Memorials may be given to the Nazarene Church in care of the funeral home.
Joe Wellmaker
LAKIN -- Funeral for Joe Wellmaker, 71, will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Lakin, with Chaplain Doug Williams officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Mr. Wellmaker died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at his home in rural Lakin.
He was born March 24, 1928, at Turkey, Texas, the son of Oder and Grace (Chambers) Wellmaker. He attended school near Wentworth, Colo., and at Stonington, Colo.
A farmer, he moved from Manter to Kearny County in 1964. His special interests were playing golf, and doing woodworking and stone cutting. He was a member of the Lakin Municipal Golf Course.
On May 21, 1950, he married Nina Dillon at Clayton, N.M. She survives.
He is also survived by four sons, Calvin Wellmaker, Lena, Wis., Larrall Wellmaker, Lakin, Troy Wellmaker, Casper, Wyo., and Jimmy Wellmaker, Dodge City; two daughters, Norma Unruh, Morrow, Ohio, and Becky Sims, Wichita; a brother, Clifford Wellmaker, Newark, Calif.; two sisters, Allene Knight, Commanche, Okla., and Darlene Fisher, Collinsville, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Wellmaker and Everett Wellmaker; and a sister, Sybil Day.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to Lakin Municipal Golf Course, in care of the funeral home.
Elizabeth Hudson
Johnson -- Elizabeth Hudson, 90, of Johnson and formerly of Sylvia, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, Johnson, where she had resided since Dec. 31, 1998.
She was born Sept. 13, 1909, at Parsons, the daughter of Christian Eugene Sr. and Ella (Miller) Klag.
On July 6, 1939, she married Joe Y. Hudson at Wichita. He preceded her in death, as did a son, George Craig Hudson, and a brother, Bill Klag.
Mrs. Hudson moved from Wichita to Sylvia in 1931. A school teacher, she had taught at Sylvia Rural High School for 27 years before retiring. She was a member of Sylvia United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, and was a former member of the Kansas Teachers Association.
She is survived by a daughter, Chris Staats, Ulysses; a sister, Maxie Klag, Wichita; and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Sylvia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Lampp officiating. Burial will be in Sylvia Cemetery.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Thursday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses, and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Willis Fredrick Buhrle
SYRACUSE -- Funeral for Willis Fredrick Buhrle, 87, will be 2 p.m. MST Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Gene Slack officiating. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
Mr. Buhrle died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Hamilton County Extended Care Home in Syracuse.
He was born Nov. 2, 1912, at Hoisington, the son of Charles and Gladys (Verbeck) Buhrle. A Hamilton County resident since 1918, he was a retired farmer and belonged to the First United Methodist Church.
On Dec. 26, 1935, he married Anna Dwyer at Syracuse. She survives.
Other survivors are a son, Larry, Syracuse; a daughter, Pat Holdren, Faulkton, S.D.; a brother, Everett Buhrle, Sugar City, Colo.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine; a sister, Esther; a brother, Glenn; and a grandson.
Visitation hours are until 8 MST tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. MST Wednesday at Greene Funeral Home, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to Hamilton County Extended Care Home, in care of the funeral home.
James Wiley Farr
SCOTT CITY -- James Wiley Farr, 84, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
He was born March 26, 1915, at ElKader, the son of James Wiley and Ida Mae (Patton) Farr. A lifetime resident of Scott County, moving from ElKader in 1938, he was a farmer.
On Sept. 28, 1938, he married Dorothy May Beach at Russell Springs. She died July 27, 1990, at Wichita. He was also preceded in death by a son, Everett; a grandson; two brothers; and four sisters.
He is survived by two sons, Marvin J. Farr and Howard M. Farr, both of Scott City; three granddaughters; a grandson; two brothers, C.T. Farr, Wichita, and Francis "Sam" Farr, Oberland; three sisters, Mattie Mathes, Cordelia Allen and Lena Russell, all of Scott City; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, with the Rev. Lynne Smith officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Terrace Garden Care Center or Scott County Emergency Medical Technicians, both in care of the funeral home.
Mary Jo Hughan
SATANTA -- Mary Jo Hughan, 60, of Satanta, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born July 29, 1939, at Thomas, Okla., the daughter of Charles Lee and Flora Mae (Parish) Day.
On March 22, 1959, she married Darrell G. Hughan at Liberal. They moved from Stevens County to Satanta in 1966.
Mrs. Hughan had worked for the Satanta Grocery Store. A homemaker, her hobbies included painting, gardening, flowers and cooking, especially bread and cinnamon rolls, and she liked to try new recipes.
She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as a youth Sunday School teacher and youth leader, was in charge of the nursery for many years and was active in the WMU.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Michelle Lea Baker, Basehor, and Melissa Jo Hughan, Aurora, Colo.; four brothers, Charles Day and George McNitt, both of Liberal, Johnny Day, Odessa, Texas, and Ronald Day, Dallas; two sisters, Ida Mae Rowe, Bethany, Okla., and Linda Sue Rinehart, Oklahoma City; and a grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, John McNitt; two sons, Brian Keith Hughan and Douglas Gene Hughan; a daughter, Rhonda Sue Hughan; and a brother, Theo Day.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Satanta, with the Rev. Ray Tweed officiating. Graveside service will be 4 p.m. in Plains Cemetery, Plains.
