PAULINE M. DOERFLER
LINDSBORG -- Pauline M. Doerfler, 86, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Lindsborg Community Hospital.
She was born March 18, 1919, to John J. and Margaret (Schoenberger) Lang in Ellis.
She married Alexander Doerfler May 5, 1939, in Hays. He died April 19, 1981.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Alter Society in Liberal.
She was a lifetime member of both the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by six daughters, Betty Lash and husband, Richard, Maize, Diana Flores, Salina, Geraldine Hudspeth and husband, Robert, Oklahoma City, Debra L. Brooks, Gypsum, Lily Pointer and husband, Jerry, Grandview, Mo., and Becky Doerfler, Derby; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Francis Lang, Arizona; and three sisters, Joann Brown, Hays, Rita Weigel, Hays, and Loraine Uttecht, Yuba City, Calif.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, James Alexander Doerfler and Thomas Leon Doerfler; three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with Father Mike McAndrew presiding.
Vigil and rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Burial will follow funeral mass at Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

HELEN R. KELLER
Johnson -- Helen Rose Keller, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Stanton County Long Term Facility in Johnson after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 6, 1928, to Joseph and Theresa (Knoll) Hoffman in Padroni, Colo.
She married Henry Keller Dec. 31, 1949, in Fort Lupton, Colo.
He died March 9, 1990.
She was a clerk for the Port of Entry in Johnson and a cook for Stanton County Hospital.
She was a member of the St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Johnson.
Survivors include one son, Robert Keller, Dodge City; two daughters, Linda L. Lyons, Olney Springs, Colo., and Sharon Twilleger and husband, Jerry, Dumas, Texas; nine grandchildren, Marc Lyons and wife, Heather, Fort Collins, Colo., Brian Lyons and wife Janel, Pueblo, Colo., Amanda Lyons and Thomas Sisneros, Aurora, Colo., Amber Lyons and Kyle Doak, Fowler, Colo., Travis Winger and wife, Angie, Johnson, Angie Moser and husband, Ed, Syracuse, Brenda Brown and husband, J.B., Sublette, Corey Keller and wife, Jennie, Dodge City, and Jason Keller and Stacie Nichols, Lincoln, Neb.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Austin, Ajay and Aidan Lyons, Fort Collins, Colo., Lane and Levi Winger, Johnson, Alex, Bryan and Kelsey Moser, Syracuse, and Corey Jr., Christopher and Ashley Keller, Dodge City.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Adolph Hoffman, Alvin Hoffman, and Bill Hoffman, two sisters, Emma Schmidt and Margaret Lapp.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel. --
Burial will follow at Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home at 605 W. North Ave. in Johnson. --

BISHOP N. DEIGHTON
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Bishop Noran Deighton, 3, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in New Port Richey, Fla.
He was born Nov. 14, 2002, to Lynne Deighton of Holiday, Fla., and Cliff Collins of Wichita in Wichita.
He had been attending the Little Lambs Day Care and Preschool.
Survivors include his parents; his grandparents, Pat and Mike Deighton, New Port Richey; his great-grandparents, Pearlie Mae West, Liberal, and Jim and Arlene Deighton, Greensburg; and five half brothers and sisters, Keno Collins, Cliff Collins III, Tyrique Chandler, Kylia Floyd and Sade Collins.
Funeral services took place on Thursday, Jan. 5, at King of King's Lutheran Church in New Port Richey.
Additional services will be at 2 p.m.Saturday at Free Methodist Church at 1010 S. Maple in McPherson.
Burial services took place at Meadow Lawn Cemetery.

MURLENE Parker GARTEN
MEADE -- Murlene Parker Garten, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at her home.
She was born Feb. 3, 1927, to Bennie and Alice (Vineyard) Parker in Columbus, Ohio.
She married Dale Guy Garten March 3, 1943, in Dodge City.
He died Jan. 9, 2001.
She worked in a state mental hospital for the mentally handicapped in Costa Mesa, Calif., and Enid, Okla.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Greenburg.
Survivors include one son, Benny "Butch" Garten and wife, Vivien, Meade; one daughter, Patricia "Pat" Pass and husband, Jim, Meade; one daughter-in-law, Mary Garten, Trenton, N.J.; five grandchildren, Lisa Johnson and husband, Bill, Oklahoma City, James D. Pass, Coeur D' Alene, Idaho, Tina Tacha and husband, Milton, Meade, Charles "Chip" Garten, Phoenix, Christina Lynn and Jennifer Garten, Meade; 12 great-grandchildren, Constance Tacha, Liberal, Amanda Balbantin and husband, Pablo, Jr., Oklahoma City, Joshua Munsey and wife, Jessica, Coeur D' Alene, Idaho, Paul Campbell, Oklahoma City, Courtney Tacha and Krysten Hamlin, Meade, James D. Pass, Jr. and Jacob Pass of Coeur D' Alene, Savyn Mansfield, Meade, Cassondra Lynn, Park City, and Kyra and Kyndra Pass, Coeur D' Alene; five great-great-grandchildren, Pablo Balbantin III, Alexandria Balbantin, Victoria Balbantin, Kadience Munsey and Jace Shrewsbury.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Buddy "Bud"; one great-granddaughter, Lillie; one brother, Bennie; and one sister, Norma.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Nazerene in Meade.

NELLIE B. LATTIMORE
ULYSSES -- Nellie Burr Lattimore, 86, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at Hospice of Salina.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.
VICTOR M. MENDOZA
Victor M. Mendoza, 28, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, of injuries sustained in an auto accident north of Turpin, Okla.
He was born March 25, 1978, to Victor and Marta Ortiz Mendoza in Acamnaro, Guanajuato, Mexico.
He married Melissa Nicholson Sept. 18, 1998, in Liberal.
She survives.
He graduated from Liberal High School in 1996 and attended Seward County Community College.
He had been employed at Mosaic for the past eight years.
He is also survived by his parents; one son, Victor Krishon Mendoza, of the home; one daughter, Persephone Mendoza, of the home; his grandmother, Senorina Mendoza, Celeyn, Guanajuato, Mexico; three brothers, Josh Mendoza and wife, Crystal, Liberal, Victor Mendoza, Liberal, and Jesse Mendoza, Liberal; and one sister, Wendy Mendoza, Liberal.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Tony Judge presiding.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.
GENEVA M. JOHNSTON
DODGE CITY -- Geneva Maxine Johnston went home to be with the Lord on February 11, 2007.
She was born December 6, 1926 on a farm at Arapaho, Oklahoma, to R.L. and Bertha Charity (Browning) Bewley. As a young girl she attended rural Custer County Schools, graduating Arapaho High School in 1944. She married Alonzo Leslie Johnston, of Custer City Oklahoma, on March 31, 1949 at Wheeler, Texas. In 1952 she and her husband moved to Wichita, Kansas where she worked for Boeing & Cessna Aircraft Companies. In 1960 they moved to Fort Dodge, Kansas where she worked as head cook at Nimitz Hall. In 1966 they then moved to Dodge City, Kansas where she worked at the Dodge City Manor as a housekeeper, laundry aide, and activity director, retiring in 1984.
She was also an accomplished seamstress having made many clothes for Manor residents.
She also made the queens cape worn at the Dale Northern Senior Citizens Christmas Party.
She was also an avid gardener raising many varieties of flowers.
She loved to cook and especially enjoyed family gatherings with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter Patricia K. Humble and husband Howard of Joplin, Missouri; a son Mark Johnston and wife Stacy of Dodge City, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, Larry D Humble of Dodge City, Kansas Rhonda and Gerald McCash of Joplin, Missouri, Lori and Scott Byrum of Dodge City, Kansas, Vanessa Weber of Dodge City and Kyle Weber of Liberal, Kansas; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, N. Dean Bewley and wife Elaine of Yukon, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother J.R. Burke; 2 sisters, Alma L. Howard, and Audrey B. Spencer and 1 great-granddaughter, Savannah Marie McCash.
Funeral services will be 10:00am Wednesday February 14, 2007 at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Additional services will be held Thursday February 15, 2007 in Oklahoma. Burial will be in Page Cemetery, Burns Flat, Oklahoma.
The family suggest memorials to Hospice of the Prairie or the American Cancer Society both in care of Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.

Wayne L. Prentice, 76, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at Wheatridge Park Care Center.
