NORMA L. HARRIS
Norma L. Harris, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at her residence in Liberal.
She was born Jan. 5, 1925, to Eldon and Katie Erdsik Campbell in Nakoma.
She married Floyd S. Powell.
She then married Ike Harris.
She was a secretary to the court judge in Dodge City.
Survivors include two daughters, Kitty Simmons Romine, Liberal; Jackie Lenz, Montezuma; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Eldon Campbell, Denver; and three sisters, Thelma Agnew, Weskan, Glenna Anderson, Ashland, and Colleen Blew, Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery
in Fort Dodge.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of the mortuary.
CHARLES L. HAYES
MINERAL WELLS, Texas -- Charles L. Hayes, 83, died Nov. 11, 2004, at his residence in Mineral Wells, Texas.
He was born Oct. 4, 1921, to Virgil and Erma Hayes in Fredonia.
He married Hilda Marie Crisler Oct. 29, 1949, in Pratt. She died Jan. 1, 1999.
He was a newspaper journalist at the Southwest Daily Times for 50 years. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and Korea.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Hayes and wife Julia, Fayetteville, N.C., and Ronnie Hayes, Cincinnati; one daughter, Nancy Temple and husband Adron, Mineral Wells, Texas; three grandchildren, Trey and Courtney Temple and Shanna Blanton; two great-grandchildren, Nickolas and Wyatt Blanton; and one sister, Helen Capp.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at the North Oak Church of Christ in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Burial was in the Woodland Park Cemetery
with Brad Fry presiding.
ELSIE WINFREY
Elsie Winfrey, 95, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at her residence in Liberal.
She was born March 12, 1909, to Clement and Fannie (Elwood) Martin in Clements.
She married William Albert Winfrey in Kingman. He died June 6, 1996.
She was a 1923 graduate of Cottonwood Falls High School. She then was graduated from Wichita Business College.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Dee Baker, Liberal, and Janice Stuber and husband Ted, Fort Collins, Colo.; one son, William D. Winfrey and wife Sherry, Arvada, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, Larry Mason, Barbara Kloeppinger, Colleen Heller, Pam Hinderliter, Kelly Baker, Mark Mead, Steven Durham, Melody Lomax, Michael Durham, Raymond Gregory Baker and Jana Lee McGee; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara June Winfrey and one daughter, Patricia Rothermel, two brothers and five sisters.
A private family memorial service will be at a later date in Chase County.

ANNA BITNER
MANTER -- Anna Bitner, 91, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
She was born Sept. 12, 1913, to Fritz and Ann Marie (Bruman) Voigt in Grabow, Germany.
She married James S. Bitner Jan. 10, 1935, in Richfield. He died Nov. 25, 1998.
She tended to the home as well as the farm.
She enjoyed quilting and gardening.
Survivors include one son, Joe Bitner, Manter; two daughters, Edith Bitner, Manter, and Sally Ann Johnson and husband Bill, Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Grasham, Greensburg, and Freda Deck, Fowler.
She was also preceded in death by three sons, Donald Bitner, Eugene Bitner and James Bitner.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Elkhart Cemetery
with Pastor Dennis Mason presiding.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.

ELDON E. THOMPSON
Eldon E. "Bud" Thompson, 72, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 28, 1932, to Emil Thompson and Pearl (Ingerham) Thompson in Liberal.
He married Donna Riegel. She died in 1985.
He then married Rachel Emerson Thompson June 19, 1986. She survives.
He was a regional manager for Geolograph Oil Field Services.
He served his country in the Korean War.
He was a member of the Quaker City Masonic Lodge No. 500 F. and A.M., Scottish Rire Valley of Cambridge, Ohio, Eastern Star Chapter No. 211 and Eagles Lodge of Cambridge, Ohio.
Other survivors include one son, Dwayne D. "Buddy" Thompson and wife Bobbie, Mount Pleasant, Mich.; three daughters, Tammy C. Zeek and husband Scott, Cambridge, Ohio, Lisa G. Duhamel and husband David, Cambridge, Ohio, and Sharon Bond and husband Greg, Guysville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Keith, Evan Keith, Jennifer Thompson, Jayme Harper, Jessica Thompson, Landon Duhamel, Adam Bond, Dusty Bond, Erik Zeek and Devin Zeek; three great-grandchildren; Aaliyah Harper, Tyler Zeek and Austin Zeek; two expected great-grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Thompson and wife Marilyn, Liberal; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, twin sister Edna Carlile and one infant sister.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home in Cambridge, Ohio, with the Rev. Donald Glass presiding.
Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home.

MARTHA REDGER
CIMARRON -- Martha Redger, 79, Montezuma and former Cimarron resident, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born July 4, 1925, to Daniel and Dena (Koehn) Redger in Gray County. She was a lifetime area resident.
She worked as a nurse for Dr. Jackman in Cimarron for many years. She then worked for the Gray County Health Department until her retirement.
She was a member of Church of God In Christ Mennonite in Cimarron.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Ann Redger, Hutchinson; 14 nephews and nieces; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Albert, Harry, Lester, Frank and Abner Redger; two sisters, Magdalene Dukelow and Matilda Martens.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cimarron Mennonite Church in Cimarron with the Ministers Keith Ensz, Wilbur Koehn and Dallas Koehn presiding.
Burial will follow at North Mennonite Cemetery
in Montezuma.
Friends may call from 2 until 6 p.m. today at Cimarron Mennonite Church in Cimarron.

J.L. JONES
Reverend J.L. Jones, 42, died November 23, 2004, from injuries sustained in an auto accident at Kingman, Kansas.
He was born Sept. 27, 1962, at Ft. Carson, CO, the son of Jim and Janet (Smades) Jones.
He graduated from Liberal High School in 1981. He was a graduate from Kansas State University in 1985 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He later received his Masters in Divinity in 1989 from Midwest Baptist Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri.
He had been a resident of Miami, Oklahoma since 2000 where he was currently serving as pastor of the Immanuel Baptist Church and had previously served at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Grand Island, NE, and Calvary Baptist Church in Clay Center, KS.
He was a member of the North Eastern Baptist Association and held the offices of Moderator for 2 years and Evangelism Director for 4 years.
Dying in the same accident were his daughter Janessa Ann and son Jayden Lee.
On May 25, 1985, he married Lora Ann Webb at Liberal, KS. She survives.
Other survivors include parents, Jim and Janet Jones, Liberal, KS; 1 brother, Jack Jones and wife Kris, Wichita; 1 sister, Jana Johnson and husband Mark, Garden City; and grandmother, Beulah Smades, Leoti, KS.
He was preceded in death by granddad, H.C. Smades and grandparents, Edwin and Fannie Jones.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Southern Baptist Church, Liberal with Reverend Roy Moody presiding.
Burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal, KS.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church, Miami, OK, with Reverend Carl Garret presiding.
Calling time is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, Liberal, KS.
