FLOYD TUMAN
Floyd "Pop" Tuman, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
He was born Feb. 10, 1914, to George R. and Hilda V. Shelton Tuman in Beaver County, Okla.
He married Mabel V. Hoeckendorf in Liberal. She died Aug. 7, 1972.
He was a life-long truck driver and worked for Pittman Grain, Swift and Co. and Phillips 66. He retired in 1993.
He attended First Baptist Church in Liberal.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Tuman, Lemore, Calif., Vernon Tuman, Fontana, Calif., and Kenny Tuman, Liberal; three daughters, Mary Casey and husband Melvin, Carnegie, Okla., Donna Harris and husband Cal, Liberal, and Anna McKee and husband Ron, Elgin, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and companion, Alyce Decker, Liberal.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandson, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at Miller Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Cal Farleys Boys and Girls Ranch or to the American Cancer Society.
JOHN C. NELSON
Johnson John Christian (J.C.) Nelson, 72, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at his home in rural Stanton County.
He was born March 6, 1931, to Laurence E. and Pearle (Webb) Nelson in Natoma.
He married Shirley Ann Cronn on June 13, 1954, in Paradise. She died on July 18, 1995.
He was a farmer and worked for Ron Kendrick for 25 years. After he retired, he began making golf clubs. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post No. 3684.
He attended Bethel Church of Nazarene in Johnson. He was a member of the Johnson Masonic Lodge.
He enjoyed playing golf, watching football and pheasant hunting.
Survivors include one son, Clem Nelson and wife Sharon, Johnson; two daughters, Corrine Nelson, South Carolina, and Colleen Hutchens and husband Butch, Woodward, Okla.; one daughter-in- law, Kathy Nelson, Payson, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Nelson and wife Helen, Norton; two sisters, Ona Barber, Johnson, and Ellen Clair and husband Jerry, Columbia, Mo.; and many nephews and nieces.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one son, Curtis Nelson.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday at Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Johnson, with the Rev. W. O. Boomer presiding.
Burial will follow at Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson, with Military and Masonic Rites.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

BERTHA L. SIX
ULYSSES Bertha Lorene (Metcalf) Peters Six, 88, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita.
She was born Oct. 19, 1915, to Charles Thomas C. and Edna Fay (Harbour) Metcalf.
She married Kenneth Raymond Peters July 15, 1933, in Lamar, Mo. He died March 28, 1956.
She then married Harry L. Six July 29, 1958, in Clayton, N.M. He also preceded her in death.
She worked at Duckwalls for several years as a clerk, then later at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital and Western Prairie Care Home as a nurses aide.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening and loved to cook for her family.
Survivors include five grandchildren, Kenneth Jene Peters, Becca Brantley, Tina Carson, Cynda Lower and Kenten Peters; 18 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Hays, Plainview, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Peters, Ulysses; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Dean Peters, two sisters, Dolly Juanita Richardson and Marjorie Jean Johnson, and four brothers, Carl Raymond Metcalf, Thomas Eldon Metcalf, Charles J. Metcalf, Jr. and Claris Dean Metcalf.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.
Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.

JOSEPH F. HERNDON II
DERBY Joseph Franklin Herndon II, 21, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, in Hawijah, Iraq.
He was born Nov. 9, 1982, to Kenneth Frank and Virginia Lea Barber Herndon, Jr., in Hutchinson.
He married Melanie Ray Long March 5, 2003, in Las Vegas. She survives.
He was posthumously promoted to CPL in the U.S. Army.
Other survivors include his mother and stepfather; one sister; two stepsisters; grandparents, Everett and Betty Barber, Hugoton, and Kenneth, Sr. and Betty Herndon, Liberal; and many uncles and aunts.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at the Derby High School Football Stadium.
Memorials are suggested to the Joe Herndon II Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Smith Mortuary in Derby.
CHARLES S. DAVIS
WICHITA Charles Scott Davis, 64, died Aug. 8, 2004, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born July 11, 1940, to Scott B. Davis and Helen J. Waller in Detroit.
He graduated from Liberal High School in 1958.
He worked as an accountant for Cable Systems.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam.
He was a member of United Methodist Church and Elks Club in Liberal.
He was a secretary for Chevys Finest Classic Car Club in Wichita.
Survivors include his mother and one brother, Gene Davis, Liberal.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary in Pratt.
Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery
in Cullison.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and until service time Thursday at Ayres Calbeck Mortuary.

LOUISE J. THOMPSON
COLDWATER Louise Jean Thompson, 81, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater.
She was born June 14, 1923, to Raymond and Winnie (Meers) Parcel on a farm southeast of Coldwater.
She married James D. Thompson March 30, 1946, in Coldwater. He survives.
She attended Sunnyside Country School and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1941. She received her bachelor's degree in home economics from Kansas State University in 1945 and later attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla.
She was a home economist for Kiowa County Extension Service from 1969 until 1979.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Coldwater and Presbyterian Circle and Guild.
Other memberships include Coldwater BPW, Research Club and EHU.
She was a 4-H leader and also judged foods at many county and state fairs.
Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth J. Thompson and wife Julia, Liberal, and Wayne L. Thompson and wife Susie, Coldwater; one daughter, Sue A. Weimaster and husband Allen, Russell; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clair Parcel.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Coldwater with the Rev. Steve Saville presiding.
A private family burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery
in Coldwater.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m., Wednesday at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater.

ROBERT KELLER
FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. Robert "Bob" Keller, 83, died Monday, July 25, 2004, after a brief illness.
He was born in Carmel, Canada.
He was a store manager for J.C. Penney for more than 40 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly A. Keller, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; two sons, Thomas Keller, Providence, R.I., and Mark A. Keller and friend Daniel Schreiber, Phoenix; one daughter, Joyce Ingling and husband, Tom; Bordentown, N.J.; three grandchildren, Lisa Brown and husband, Peter, Philip and Christie Ingling; one brother, Edward Keller and wife Ruth, Newton, Iowa; two sisters, Mildred Bennett and husband Paul, Leon, Iowa, and Gladys Leeper and husband Miles, Garden Grove, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Donna Keller, Leon, Iowa; and other family and friends.
Funeral masses were at 11 a.m., Friday, July 30, at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills, Ariz.
Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery
in Bordentown, N.J.
