GLEN D. STRICKLAND
ULYSSES Glen Dale Strickland, 79, Fort Dodge, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Kansas Soldiers' Home, Fort Dodge.
He was born June 21, 1924, in Sherman County to Ruel Benjamin and Opal Marie (Townsend) Strickland.
He graduated from Syracuse High School.
After graduation, he entered into the Navy Air Force and served during World War II. After he was honorably discharged, he moved to Ulysses, where he worked as a long haul truck driver, farmer and later for Farmland Industries transporting fuel.
In 1987, he moved to the Kansas Soldiers' Home, where he enjoyed visiting and playing cards.
Survivors include two daughters; one grandchild; two brothers, Stanley Strickland and wife Evelyn, Moore, Okla., and Gary Strickland and wife Jane, Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Irene Hill, Amarillo, Texas, Joyce Floyd and husband Carson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Doris Honey and husband Gayle, El Dorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Kenneth Dale Strickland.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 14, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses, with Rev. Dennis H. Livingston residing.
Burial will follow.
Friends may call at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The family suggests that memorials be given to the First United Methodist Church, Ulysses, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.
HELEN F. DURHAM
ULYSSES - Helen Fae Durham, 88, Ulysses, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
She was born May 14, 1915, to William H. and Jennie Grace Temple in Saxman.
She married James B. Durham Aug. 10, 1932, in Lyons. He died in 1950.
She managed the Ralsamore Hotel until 1951. She then became secretary to the principal at Ulysses High School from 1951 until 1965 when she became the clerk of the USD No. 214 Board of Education until she retired in 1984.
She was a member of Shelton Memorial Church, Ulysses, where she taught Sunday school for 49 years.
She was also Elder Emeritus and served as the first woman to chair of the church board. She was a board member of Loaves and Fishes, Ulysses, Kansas Christian Home, Newton, and served as the Democratic Chair for Grant County.
Survivors include a daughter, Billie Whiteman, British Columbia; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Lee Temple and one sister, Marion Stoskopf.
*Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with Rev. Bill Harrold residing.
Graveside services will be at Lyons Cemetery, Lyons at 4 p.m.
Friends may call today until 8 p.m.

WANDA A. POULTON
HUTCHINSON - Wanda A. Poulton, 73, died May 12, 2004 at her residence in Hutchinson.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1930, to Herbert Russell Kreger and Annie Pearl Fowler Kreger in Sharon, Okla.
She married G. Norwood Poulton in New Mexico. He died on Feb. 28, 1981.
She attended school in Oklahoma.
She owned and operated Daylight Donuts from 1981 until 1988. She also worked for Gregory Inc. in Buhler from 1989 until retiring in 1997.
She was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Lee and Jackie Ray Poulton, Hutchinson; two step-sons, Glenn Poulton, Liberal, and Barry Poulton, Dodge City; one daughter, Sharon Lynn Taylor, Hutchinson; one stepdaughter, Glenda Hunter, Amarillo, Texas; eight grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Kreger, Canton, Okla.; and two sisters, Katie Hickey, Longdale, Okla., and Betty Willis, Oakwood, Okla.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Patrick J.J. Taylor.
*Funeral services will be at Elliott Chapel on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Ernie Bishop residing.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call today until 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will also receive friends today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Reno County or Eastwood Church of Christ.
HOMER SNYDER
BRONSON - Homer Snyder, 81, died May 13, 2004, at Baptist Lutheran Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; three sons, Rex and Galen Snyder and David Vogan; two daughters, Bonnie Herd and husband, Mike, and Sherry Williams and husband, Bob; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margie Berry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughers, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, three brothers and one sister.
*Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Shawnee Full Gospel Church, 4830 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, KS.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
CHARLES V. OWINGS
GARDEN CITY - Charles Vance Owings, 79, died Sunday, May 16, 2004 at his residence in Garden City.
Funeral arrangements are pending. Haskell County Funeral Home of Sublette is in charge of arrangements.
KATIE KOEHN
ULYSSES - Katie Koehn, 93, died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Bethel Home, Inc., in Montezuma.
She was born June 27, 1910, to Andrew W. and Sarah (Koehn) Koehn in Marion County.
She married Edward A. Koehn, Aug. 16, 1931. He died Jan. 6, 1993.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Grant Menonite Church, Ulysses.
Survivors include three sons, Jacob Koehn and wife, Ella Rose, Stover, Mo., Lee Vern and wife, Lois, Othello, Wash., and Wilbur Koehn and wife, Lovella, Ogallala, Neb.; two daughters, Wilda Yost, Hickok-Ulysses, and Luella Lighty and husband, Clyde, Ulysses; 20 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Bonnie Jackson and husband, Winston, DeRidder, La., and Patricia Koehn, Ulysses; and other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, six sisters, three sons, Andrew, Donald and Marvin Koehn, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
*Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grant Mennonite Church, Ulysses with ministers Stuart Jantzen, Denton Koehn and Wilbur Koehn presiding.
Burial will be at the Grant Mennonite Cemetery, Ulysses. Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call today until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

WILLIAM F. PENICK
ELKHART - William (Floyd) Penick, 81, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Kansas Soldiers' Home, Fort Dodge.
He was born Sept. 28, 1922, to Edward and Martha Ellen (Riley) Penick in Elkhart.
He married Lavell Powell, July 25, 1948, in Elkhart. She survives.
He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1941.
He went on to serve in World War II. He farmed the family homestead and was also employed by Panhandle Eastern as a welder for 16 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elkhart.
He was a member of the Elkhart Cemetery
Board, the Elkhart Flying Club and VFW Post 3162, Elkhart.
Other survivors include one son, Raymond Penick and wife, Shirley, Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Marylin Porterfield and husband, Bob, Garden City; five grandchildren, Mark Penick and wife, Starrla, Lisa McCune and husband, Scott, Shana Tabor and husband, Dustin, Shelly and Clay Porterfield; one great -grandchild, Taryn Tabor; and one brother, Marvin Penick, Lakin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arnold and Bernard Penick.
*Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Elkhart with Reverends Dewey Harris and Mark Penick residing.
Burial with military rites will follow in the Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart.
Friends may call Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home, Elkhart. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

MILDRED GUDEAS
Mildred "Midge" Gudeas, 90, died May 17, 2004, at the residence of her daughter, Nancy McKeen, located in Liberal.
She was born Jan. 22, 1914, to Paul and Roxie (Park) Hanke in Kansas City, Mo.
She married James W. Gudeas Aug. 1, 1936 in Kansas City, Mo. He died April 23, 1972.
She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Southwest High School in 1933.
She and her husband owned and operated Gudeas Apple Orchard for many years near Sibley, Mo.
She moved to Liberal in 1972 from Sibley, Mo.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Liberal Woman's Club, Cimarron River Valley Daughters of the American Revolution, Book Review Club No. 1, PEO Chapter FA and the Liberal Country Club.
She is survived be her daughter, Nancy McKeen and husband, Chuck in Liberal.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her only grandchild, William McKeen III; and one sister, Frances Newlin.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Stephen B. Saville presiding.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Buckner Hill Cemetery
in Buckner, Mo.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kitch-Brenneman funeral home.
