JOHN "JACK" SCHENKEL JR.
GREAT BEND -- John "Jack" Schenkel Jr., 75, died Nov. 5, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 24, 1927, to John J. Sr. and Katherine Hegart Schenkel in LaCrosse.
He married Bonnie Harding June 30, 1961, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.
He was a supervisor in the oilfield working for Sun Oilwell Cementing, B.J. Hughes and Allied Cementing. He drove "The Cab" for the Senior Center for the past 10 years.
Other survivors include three sons, Randall J. Schenkel, Liberal, Gary Bruner, Great Bend, and Steven W. Schenkel, Great Bend; three daughters, Sheila Dunn, Golden, Mo., Brenda Walton, Great Bend, and Phyllis Ward, Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by one daughter, Teresa Schenkel, 10 brothers and three sisters.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Pastor Robert Castile presiding.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
BLANCHE D. WARD
Blanche D. Ward, 90, Liberal, died Nov. 9, 2003, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.
Funeral services are pending and will be anounced later by Miller Mortuary.
IDA C. BIGGERSTAFF
Ida C. Biggerstaff, 74, Liberal died Nov. 7, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Jan. 3, 1929, to August C. and Daisy D. Allen Manthe in Easton.
She married Wilbur E. Biggerstaff Sept. 1, 1979. He died in 1993.
She came to Liberal in 1973 and worked at the Sally Anns Cafe. She later was a sales clerk for Rash Oil Company for many years retiring in 1987.
She was a member of the Trinity Faith Church in Liberal.
Suvivors include one son, Charles Gates, Liberal; three daughters, Wilma Gates, Kismet, Katherine Manthe and husband, Ivan, Follet, Texas, and Patti Grant, Liberal; three brothers, Donald Manthe and wife Shirley, Atchinson; Ivan Manthe and wife, Katherine, Follet, Texas, and Joe Manthe and wife, Suzanne, Leavenworth; three sisters, Barbara Lawson, Santa Rosa, Calif., Hazel Joyce, Leavenworth, and Ruth Baker, Valley Falls; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis; her parents; four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Faith Church with the Reverend Dee Estes presiding.
Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Miller Mortuary and the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society or to Trinity Faith Church in care of the mortuary.
CARRIE E. TYLER
COPELAND -- Carrie E. Tyler, 70, died Nov. 11, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center at St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.
JOSEPHINE "JO" KAPP
Josephine "Jo" Kapp, 79, died Nov. 10, 2003, at her residence in Liberal.
She was born Dec. 27, 1923, to Bernard and Viola Gilbert Corrigan in Wichita.
She married Samuel J. Hardin in 1939. She then married E.C. "Gene" Kapp July, 1949, in Raton, N.M. He died June 30, 1985.
She attended school in Moscow, St. Mary in Dodge City and Liberal High School in Liberal.
She was a life long farmer of Seward County.
She was a member of the Progressive Grange, Southwest Kansas Irrigator Association, EHU Friendly Neighbors Unit. She was a 4-H leader and Project Leader for many years. She served on the Stevens County Fair, Stevens County Council and Seward County Conservation Boards.
Survivors include one son; James L. Hardin and wife, Yolanda, Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, Judy Causey, Liberal, Janice Randel, Onaga; two step-sons, Dick Kapp and wife, Mabel, Chandler, Texas; Morris Kapp and wife, Marilyn, Yukon, Okla.; two step-daughters, Emma Jean Kingsley, Hutchinson, Martha Lea Mosier, Wichita; 30 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William J. Hardin; one sister, Irene Frazier; two step-sons, Keith and Tom Kapp.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Chapel with Paul Boles presiding.
Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call the Miller Mortuary from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

IRENE DONLAY
FOWLER -- Irene Donlay, 88, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at the Fowler Nursing Home in Fowler.
She was born July 25, 1915, to George S. and Mary Katherine (McFarland) King in Milan.
She married Wesley Donlay in Newkirk, Okla. in 1933. He died Jan. 30, 1981.
She was a resident of Fowler since 1999. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Longton. She was a current member of the United Methodist Church in Fowler.
Survivors include two daughters, Eva Lundeen, Fowler, Louan Shore, Scott City; one sister, Ruth Dinkins, Sarasota, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother Donald King.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday at the United Methodist Church in Fowler with the Reverend Roland Wolfe presiding.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Milan Cemetery
in Milan.

RALPH W. SMITH
KALVESTA -- Ralph W. Smith, 82, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Lane County Long Term Care in Dighton.
She was born Sept. 18, 1921, to Frank E. Effie (Blackburn) Smith in Stafford.
He married Leila E. Smith April 4, 1946, in Napoleon, Ohio. She survives.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kalvesta. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Ranson. He was a member of the National Farmers Union. He was on the Board of the National Farmers Union for many years.
Other survivors include one son, James Smith and wife, Anita, Dighton; one daughter, Marilyn Smith, Welling, Okla.; two brothers, Stanton Smith and wife, Beva, Kingsland, Texas, Lavern "Shorty" Smith and wife, Marge, Kingsland, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Clinton, Cecil, Glenn, Edner, John, Clyde, and Paul Smith; two sisters, Lula Hanson and Mildred Hopkins.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday at the United Methodist Church in Dighton with the Reverends David Randall and Randy Jellison-Knock presiding.
Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Honor Guard at Dighton Cemetery
in Dighton.
Friends may call the Haskell county Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friends may call the United Methodist Church in Dighton from noon until 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. until service time on Friday.
KIMBERLY HERNANDEZ
Kimberly Hernandez, 14 months, died Nov. 11, 2003, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born Aug. 19, 2002, to Raul and Manuela (Rivera) Hernandez.
Survivors include her parents, Liberal; one brother, Raul Donaldo Hernandez, Liberal; one sister, Tiffany Hernandez, Liberal; paternal grandmother, Marie Hernandez, Liberal; paternal grandfather, Ramon Hernandez, Mexico; maternal grandparents, Manuel and Rosa Rivera, Mexico.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with Father Patrick Keyes presiding.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home and from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
BENITA JOYCE WALKER
Johnson -- Benita Joyce Walker, 77, died Nov. 11, 2003, at the Stanton County Hospital in Johnson.
She was born Dec. 7, 1925, to William Wesley and Ruth Lynette (Cockreham) Felts in Johnson City.
She married Forrest Lavere Walker April 1, 1945, in Johnson. He survives.
In 1943 she graduated from Stanton County High School in Johnson. She was a homemaker, farm and ranchwife.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Johnson, Past Noble Grand, Grand Patriarch of Rebekah Lodge and the Futorum Club where she was a charter member and first president.
Other survivors include three sons, Forrest Lynn Walker and wife, Nancy, Heston, Larry Carl Walker and wife, Charlene, Buena Vista, Colo., and Lonnie Joe Walker and wife, Debbie, Manter; one sister, Carol (Felts) Clark and husband, W.C., Sarasota, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Aaron Walker and wife, Jenni, Valley Center, Emily Walker, Valley Center, Cambray Walker and wife, Sheila, Manhattan; Cherina (Walker) Heinitz, O.T. and husband, Kep, Mancos, Colo., Amanda (Walker) Seyb, D.V.M. and husband, Rhett, Big Bow, Samantha Walker and Cassandra Walker both of Manter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, William Wesley Felts Jr. and Larry Keith Felts.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Johnson with the Reverend Glenn Fogo presiding.
Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson.
