GARY GENE JOHNSON
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Gary Gene Johnson, age 59, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was born Nov. 17, 1943, to Howard W. and Jennie Johnson in Liberal.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He worked as a liquor distributor for years in Colorado and previously was with Panhandle Eastern in Kansas. He also attended college in Kansas.
Survivors include one son, Ryan Johnson, and one sister, Janet K. (Johnson) Hummel.
He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph George Johnson, his parents, and his nephew, Jeff D. Terry.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful."
Graveside services with military honors followed at 2 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery
in Denver, Colo.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses.
Memorials are suggested to the Heart Association, Diabetes Association or Leukemia Society.
MARY J. ANDREWS
LIBERAL -- Mary J. Andrews, 83, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at the Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.
She was born Oct. 26, 1920, to Albert P. and Grace A. Gleeson Bangs.
She married Lee Roy Andrews Aug. 31, 1941, in Hugoton. He died Oct 8, 1983.
She graduated from Liberal High School in 1938. She attended Emporia State Teachers College for one year. She was a secretary for Blakemore Brothers for 30 years and retired in Jan. 1970.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Liberal.
She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, No. 104 and American Legion in Liberal.
She was a volunteer at the Southwest Guidance Center for seven years.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Linda Andrews, San Jose, Calif; one-sister-in-law, Oma Bangs, Liberal; two grandchildren, Jeff Andrews and wife, Laura, Atlanta, Ga., Jill Matuk and husband, John, Freemont, Calif., three great-grandchildren, Jacob Matuk, Caroline and Paige Andrews and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, David Andrews and one brother, Willard Bangs.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Friday at the Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal with the Reverend John Andrews presiding.
Friends may call the Miller mortuary until 8 p.m. today and 8 p.m. on Thursday. The family will also receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Miller Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
ZONA LEPEL
FOWLER -- Zona Lepel, 83, died Nov. 3, 2003, at the Meade District Hospital in Meade.
She was born Sept. 30, 1920 to George Nathan and Zona Heinekle Morris in Boston, Ark.
She married Charley C. Lepel, Sept. 23, 1963, in Dodge City. He died March, 31, 1983.
She was a resident of Fowler since 1948. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, David Laneer and wife, Jerry, Dodge City, Robert Laneer, Fowler; two daughters, Ailene "Johnie" Leverett and husband, Robert, Holyoke, Mass., Fern Rosson and husband, Joe, Thompson, Mo.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary Chapel in Meade.
Friends may call the funeral home until 7 p.m. today.
Burial will be at the Fowler Cemetery
in Fowler.

MALINDA ISSAC
MONTEZUMA -- Malinda Issac, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
Funeral services will be announced by Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.
LUCILLE BECK ORME WOODSON
Lucille Beck Orme Woodson, 94, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Kingman.
She was born June 24, 1909, to William and Clara (Messenger) Beck in Basil.
She graduated from Kingman High School in 1928 and attended Wichita Business College.
She was a lifetime resident of Kingman County.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a 75-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 172. She served as a Worthy Matron and a district aide. She was a charter member of the Kingman County Historical Society and a former 4-H leader in Kingman.
Survivors include two sons, Royce Orme, Meade, Larry Orme, Kingman; two-stepsons, Loren Woodson, Kingman, Bill Woodson, Colo.; one daughter, Carolee Krase, Bartlesville, Okla.; one sister, Betty Ann Robertson, Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Eric Krase and two sisters, Lillian Swihart and Vivan Downing.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingman with the Reverends Steve Souther and Jane Brigden-Graham presiding.
Burial will be at Waterloo Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or the Kingman County historical Society in care of the Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.
TERESA A. MERZ
Teresa A. Merz, 45, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Via Christi St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
She was born Jan. 23, 1958 to Claude T. Sr. and Glenda L. "Bright" Fisher.
She married Steve Merz, Jan. 1, 2001 in Liberal. He survives.
She grew up and attended school in Farmington, N.M.
She moved to Liberal in 1992. She was a secretary for the Athletic department at Liberal High School. She was the receptionist for the USD 480 Central office.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and then St. Paul United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women in Liberal.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann Hansen, Liberal; her mother Glenda Woolf, Deming, N.M.; two brothers, Rev. Tom Fisher and wife, Shirley, Sunray, Texas, Tim Price and wife, Chloe, Deming, N.M.; one granddaughter, Franchesca Noel Marie Wharton; father and mother-in-law, Melvin and Jimmie Merz, Liberal; two sisters-in-law, Janet Freeman and husband, Alan, Liberal, Judy Armstrong and husband, Steve, Ft. Worth, Texas.
She was preceded in death by one son, Lars Antone Hansen,V; grandparents, Paul and Ilene Bright, Audie Price; mother-in-law, Myrna G. Hansen and brother-in-law, Keith Merz.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God Church in Liberal with the Reverands Tom Fisher and Jerry Odle presiding.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Deerfield Cemetery
in Deerfield.

JOHN W. WARD
John W. Ward, 38, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born Jan. 1, 1965 in Liberal to William W. and Teddy J. Elder Ward.
He atttended schools in Liberal and Woodward, Okla.
He worked in construction for several years.
He is survived by one son, Dalton Gage Ward, Liberal; his mother, Teddy Hardin, Liberal; two brothers, James Ward and wife, Peggy, Taos, N.M., Michael Ward and wife, Sally, Wichita; two sisters, Sheri Hibler and husband, Darold, Liberal, Melissa Lewis and husband, James, Groesbeck, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-father, William Hardin.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Monday, at the Miller Chapel.
Burial will be at a later date in Taos, N.M.
Friends may call the Miller Mortuary from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday.
DONALD B. CANTRELL
ULYSSES -- Donald B. Cantrell, 78, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born July 27, 1925 to Robert O. and hazel (Hoffman) Cantrell in Grant County.
He graduated fro mGrant County Rural High School. In 1952, he graduated first in his class at Colorado University Pharmacy School.
He was the owner and pharmacists oof Cantrell Pharmacy in Ulysses. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 100th Infantry Division.
He was a member of Patterson Avenue Church of God in Ulysses, where he was a Sunday school teacher and on the Board of Trustees.
He was a member of the Grant County Rural High School Board of Education, Kansas Pharmicists Association and the American Legion Charles B. Hart Post No. 79.
Other survivors include two daughters, Denise Cantrell, lakewood, Colo., Cynthia Douglas, Albequerque, N.M.; two brothers, Robert A. Cantrewll, Portland, Ore., Glenn Cantrell, El Paso, Texas; Dorothy Jones, Ulysses, Eileen Cantrell, Ulysses; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Monday at the Patterson Avenue Church of God in Ulysses with the Reverand Joe Downs presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery
with military graveside rites by Charles B. Hart Post No. 79.
