GERALD D. LONG
WICHITA -- Gerald D. Long, 60, Wichita, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at his home.
He was born June 17, 1943, to John F. and Venita M. (Henry) Long in Liberal.
He married Karen Sloan in 1972 in Liberal.
He was a veteran of Vietnam, serving in the United States Army for three years. He served in the Kansas National Guard for 15 years. He worked in fabrication at Beech Aircraft in Liberal, transferring to Wichita Raytheon plant in 1984, where he worked until his death.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post in Liberal and Wichita and the IOOF in Liberal.
Survivors include one son, Keith Long, Liberal; one daughter, Kristi Long, Liberal; his mother, Liberal; two brothers, Melvin Long and wife, Diana, Liberal, and Donald Long and wife, Debbie, Beaver, Okla.; one sister, Carolyn Long, Liberal; and one grandchild, Adrian Long.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Delbert Long.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Miller Mortuary Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.
Burial will be at the Forgan Cemetery
with military honors.
Friends may call at Miller Mortuary from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday or from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
IVAN LEE JOSSERAND
Johnson -- Ivan Lee Josserand, 80, Johnson, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.
He was born May 12, 1923, to O.E. "Doc" and Pearl (Winger) Josserand in Johnson.
He married Margaret Grace Miller on July 22, 1945 in Syracuse. She survives.
He graduated from high school in Johnson. He attended the University of Kansas where he was a member of the Acacia Fraternity.
He was a former councilman and mayor of Johnson for 35 years. He was a farmer and long-time member of the National Corn Growers Association. He won first place in the Kansas and Western District contest in 1992. He won third in the national contest in 1994. He was also a long-time cattleman and member of the Kansas Livestock Association.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 441 of Johnson.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael Wayne and wife, Barbara, Denver, Colo., and Patrick Lee and wife, Noreen, Johnson; one daughter, Cynthia Ann and husband, Dean, Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, O.W. Josserand and wife, Nancy, Johnson, and Emery Josserand, Johnson; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with the Rev. Glenn Fogo presiding.
Burial will be at Stanton County Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

IMOGENE RUPERT
HUGOTON -- Imogene (Cullison) Rupert, 86, Hugoton, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
She was born Sept. 24, 1915, to Dell Alfred and Opal (Cook) Cullison in Coffeyville. They preceded her in death.
She married Carl Rupert. He preceded her in death in 1981.
She moved to Tulsa, Okla., in 1990 and lived there until 1997, when she moved To Moscow, where she lived with her brother until July of 1998. She then moved to Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton.
Survivors include three brothers, Woodrow Cullison and wife, Elnora, Wichita, Carlysle Cullison, Springfield, Mo., and Jim Cullison, Moscow; a brother-in-law, Bill Light, Rolla; a sister-in-law, Thelma Cullison, Moscow; and many nephews, nieces and relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Basil Cullison, and Jack Cullison; and three sisters, Virginia Davenport, Wynona Mayfield, and Mardelle Light.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Dudley Township Cemetery
in Satanta with Pastor Ray Tweed presiding.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
Memorials are suggested for the Pioneer Manor Alzheimer's Unit and may be given to Paul's Funeral Home Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
RAMON GARCIA
Ramon Garcia, 55, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at his home in Liberal.
He was born Sept. 15, 1947, to Alberto and Eduviges Gonzalez Garcia in Valle Zaragoza, Chihuahua, Mexico.
He married Juana Garay. She survives.
He came to Liberal in 1996 and was employed by Seaboard Farms in Rolla.
He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal.
Survivors also include two sons, Luis and Mario Garcia; two daughters Juana and Carla Garcia; two brothers, Demetrio and Antonio Garcia; three sisters, Carmen, Maria de Jesus and Bertha Garcia; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 6 p.m. today at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with the Father Patrick Keyes presiding.
Rosary was at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Chapel in Liberal.
Burial will be at a later date in Mexico.
Miller Mortuary in Liberal is in charge of arrangements.
JOHN D. SCHOLL
SATANTA -- John D. Scholl, 86, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at his home in Satanta.
He was born Sept. 23, 1916, to George H. and Ruth C. (Nichols) Scholl in Iowa.
He married Rosemary Nettles Aug. 26, 1946, in Reno, Nevada. She died Sept. 13, 1985.
He and his wife lived in Almena where he was a farmer for Phillips and Norton Counties from 1947 to 1979.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Past Honorary Chapter Farmer, Long Island, Kansas and Northern Valley Chapter in Almena.
He hobbies included raising dogs, playing cards and going to the Happy Agers site in Satanta.
Survivors include two sons, Dwight C. Scholl and wife, Marcella, Garden City, and Darrel Scott Scholl and wife, Carolyn, Ninnekah, Okla.; one daughter, Nancy C. Knape and husband, John, Phillipsburg; four grandchildren, Carol Ann Davis, Elaine Rae Knape, Yolanda Rae Jones and Kevin Charles Scholl; seven grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James P. Scholl; and two sisters, Lelia Mea Nelson and Leona Wamsley.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Satanta with the Reverend Ray Tweed presiding.
Burial will be at Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call until service time at the church.

DAVID CHARLES LEE, Sr.
ULYSSES -- David Charles Lee, Sr., 70, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born March 6, 1933, to Andrew G. and Mary (Ralston) Lee in Lamar, Colo.
He married Carol Louise Jessup Oct. 12, 1952, in Las Animas, Colo. She died July 26, 2000.
He and his wife moved from Las Animas to Ulysses in 1967. He was a heavy equipment operator for Grant County Feeders in Ulysses, retiring in April 2003.
Survivors include one son, David Charles Lee Jr. and wife, Melanie, Ulysses; one daughter, Desi Rae Taylor and husband, Jeff, Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; one sister, Ava Kiniston, Las Animas; four grandchildren, Brandon Taylor, James Taylor, Misty Taylor and Laura Lee; five great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Roger Alan Lee.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at College Street Baptist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Sam Bynum presiding.
Burial will be at the Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.

VERNON L. "RED" DECKER
GALVA -- Vernon L. Decker, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Decker; three sons, Dausie Decker, Mich., Darrell Decker, Texas, and Tony Decker, Mo.; two daughters, Winette Whitlock, Topeka and Debbie Dilling, Mich.; one brother, Galen Decker, Turpin, Okla.; and one sister, Rosealyn Hoffman, McPherson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in McPherson.

ENEDINA NEVAREZ DE CHAVEZ
Enedina Nevarez de Chavez, 49, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born Sept. 20, 1953, to Natividad and Isabel (Torres) Nevarez in El Valle, Mexico.
She married Victor A. Chavez Aug. 18, 1969, in Chihuahua, Mexico. He died Sept. 21, 1995.
She has been a Liberal resident since 1973. She was a homemaker.
She attended St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Victor M. Chavez and Javier Chavez and wife, Mirta, all of Liberal; two daughters, Yesica Chavez-Jurey and husband, James, Jessup, Md. and Veronica C. Johnson and husband, Justin, Severn, Md.; three brothers, Alonso Nevarez Torres, Mexico, Erasmo Nevarez Torres, Mexico and Ramiro Nevarez Torres, Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Maria Rivera, Liberal, Elvira Nevarez Torres, Mexico and Petra Nevarez Torres, Mexico; six grandchildren, Brittani Chavez, Marilynn Chavez, Isabel Chavez, Victor Javier Chavez, Zachary Jurey and Aiden Jurey.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Victor Alexander Chavez.
Vigil service will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with the Father John Fahay-Guerra presiding.
Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brennaman Funeral Home in Liberal.
