DALLAS, Texas ญญ Scott William "Bill" Smith, 72, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Dallas.
He was a radio broadcaster for 47 years in Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma, including KSCB in Liberal.
His hobbies included sports and woodworking.
He was a member of Salina Silver Sabres Drum and Bugle Corps, lifetime member of Lions International, and the U.S. Army Reserves.
Survivors include, his wife of 52 years, Bobby Jean Scott, Carollton, Texas; his children, Kenneth Scott and wife, Sherry, Wichita, Kevin Scott and wife, Cindy, Seattle, Wa., Kim Larson and husband, Lee, Lindsborg, and Kelly Scott and wife, Susan, Carrollton; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Edward Smith Scott and wife, Agnes.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Valley Church in Carrollton.

LEONA POWELL
MEADE ญญ Leona Powell, 93, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Lone Tree Compassionate Care Center in Meade.
She was born Nov. 29, 1909, to Barclay Thomas and Emma Marie (Anderson) Bray in Concordia.
She married Loyal Ned Powell on Dec. 29, 1945, in Denver, Colo. He died Aug. 2, 1962.
She graduated from Colby High School in Colby, and later received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Education from Fort Hays State University.
She was a teacher in Plains and Meade.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebecca Guild, Priscilla Club, United Methodist Church Library, Meade County Historical Society, Meade High School Alumni Association, Friends of the Library, all of Meade; the Weslyan Service Guild, General Association of Women's Clubs, Thomas County Historical Society and the Colby Alumni Association, both of Colby; the Kansas National Education Association, National Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, University of Kansas-IMC, and Smithsonian Association.
Survivors include, one son, J.T. Powell and wife, Judy, Meade; one sister, Maxine McCoy, Salem, Oregon; and two granddaughters, Marley and Haley Powell, Meade.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Dallas Dean Bray; and two sisters, Ethel Regina Smith and Wiona Emalena Williams.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Meade with the Rev. Susan Green presiding.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery
in Meade.

EVELYN L. SMITH
Evelyn L. Smith, 75, of Liberal, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield, Colo.
She was born Oct. 17, 1927, to E.H. "Bud" and Florence (Jones) Wilgus near Floris, Okla.
She married Howard Lee Smith on Aug. 29, 1942. He died Jan. 19, 1965.
She worked in the cafeteria for USD No. 480 for many years, and later was a dispatcher for a local trucking company.
Survivors include, three daughters, Anita Strange and husband, Bill, Overton, Texas, Donna Jackson, Las Vegas, Nev., Radena James and husband, Paul, South Jordan, Utah; one brother, Delbert and wife, Julia, Eads, Colo.; one sister, Gloria Goreham, Indian Trails, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one grandson.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Liberal Cemetery
with the Rev. Jerry Odle presiding.

EDITH A. HISER-LAMBERTH
MONTEZUMA ญญ Edith Agnes (Hiser) Lamberth, 93, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Bethel Home, Inc. in Montezuma.
She was born Jan. 19, 1910, to Jess and Tommy (Kain) Hiser in Muskogee, Okla.
She married William Carlton Lamberth Dec. 6, 1928, in Cimarron. He died Sept. 23, 2001.
Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, and gardening.
She was a member of the Baptist Church in Oklahoma.
Survivors include, one daughter, Polly Allen, Campbell, Calif.; four grandchildren, Cheri Hatjes and husband, Michael, Amber Hall, Cal Lamberth and wife, Lisa, T.J. Allen; five great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Skip and Billy Lamberth; two sisters, Sue Ullom and Elizabeth Hiser; and one brother, Melvin Hiser.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery
in Montezuma with the Rev. Gene Eshleman presiding.

GODDARD ญญ Michael Patrick McGuire, 52, died Monday, March 31, 2003.
He worked as a field service engineer for B.F. Goodrich Avionics.
Survivors include, his wife, Kathy, of the home; one son, Michael Ryan, Wichita; two daughters, Jennifer McGuire Lies, Benton, and Andrea, of the home; his mother, Helen McGuire, Kingman; one brother, Kelly, Hays; two sisters, Terese McGuire Johnson, Wichita, and Sally McGuire Rotolo, Liberal; one grandchild, Carleigh Rose Benton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mick McGuire; and an infant son.
Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Goddard.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, also at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Goddard.

VIOLA M. HOCKENSMITH
Viola M. Hockensmith, 95, Liberal, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born June 16, 1907, to Sidney N. and Maggie (Gleason) Pinkston in Radium.
She married Chester A. Hockensmith May 23, 1926. He survives.
She moved from Moscow in 1942 to Liberal. SHe and her husband owned and operated restaurants at Liberal Air Base and later at the bowling alley.
She moved to Leoti in 1966, but returned to Liberal in 1996.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Leoti.
Other survivors include one son, Chester Hockensmith and wife, Karen, Abilene, Texas; two daughters, Jerri Waters, North Richland Hills, Texas, and June Brooks, Kismet; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; two sisters; two sons; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Glen Fargo presiding.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Point View Cemetery
in Radium.

JOE C. WHITWORTH
FRESNO, Calif. ญญ Joe Chester Whitworth, 92, died April 2, 2003, at Nancy Hinds Hospice in Fresno.
He was born Jan. 21, 1911, to Robert C. and Ethel Lee Whitworth.
He was a lifelong resident of Fresno, and was retired from the Fresno school system.
He served in the U.S. Army.
His hobbies included working in his yard and on his home, and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary; his spouse, Rometa Ann; daughter Margaret Russell Lee, sister Edith Trigueiro; and grandchildren, Jesse, and Jarred Grice.
Survivors include five grandchildren, Connie Renberger, Derby, Loyd Russell, Clarksville, Tenn., Kay Grice, Ulysses, Francie Cole, Liberal, and David Russell, Pampa, Texas; one sister Edna Pliler; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno.

ULYSSES ญญ Tempie Lamberson, 90, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born Sept. 13, 1912, to Josephius and Virginia (Kencanon) Overton in Duncan, Okla.
She married Wilber Lee Lamberson on Oct. 28, 1928, in Temple, Okla. He died Oct. 31, 1979.
She worked as a cook for schools, restaurants, and was a homemaker.
She had been a Ulysses resident since 1954.
Survivors include, ten sons, Gene Lamberson, Liberal, Earl Lamberson, Dallas, Texas, Kenneth Lamberson, Kernesville, N.C., Arcine Lamberson, Ulysses, Glynn Lamberson, Richland, Wash., Rod Lamberson, Sublette, Gail Lamberson, Ulysses, Garry Lamberson, Kennewick, Wash., Wayne Lamberson, Ulysses, David Lamberson, Garden City; one daughter, Virginia Kilburn, Independence, Miss.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, James Lamberson; one great-grandchild, Brian; four brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Sam Bynum, and the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.
Burial will be at Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
