ELLENE V. FISHER
MEADE Ellene Vesta Fisher, 90, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at her residence in Kaufman, Texas.
She was born Jan. 26, 1913, to Asa and Anna (Johnson) Kile in Elmwood, Okla.
She married Fred Forrest Fisher on July 30, 1934, in Dodge City. He died March 27, 1986.
She was a retired store clerk for Marrs and Twist Company in Meade.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kaufman.
Survivors include, one son, Jerry Fisher, Fitzguh, Okla.; one daughter, Betty Curbo, Kaughman; two brothers, Clyde Kile, Beaver, Okla., and Gene Kile, Greensburg; one sister, Roberta Kaulk, Leedy, Okla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Jack Fisher.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Graceland Cemetery
in Meade, with the Rev. Susan Green presiding.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
JOSE L. GARZA
HUGOTON Jose Lopez Garza, 73, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Aug. 27, 1929, to Eliseo and Paula (Lopez) Garza in Orange Grove, Texas.
He married Lidia Flores Nov. 27, 1951, in Lubbock, Texas. She survives.
He was a farm laborer for area farmers.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Hugoton.
He was a former Liberal resident.
Other survivors include, five sons, Joe Luis Garza, Hugoton, Carlos Garza and wife, Dora, Ulysses, Victor Garza and wife, Lydia, Hugoton, Richard Garza and wife, Terry, Cassville, Miss., Elias Garza, Hugoton; two daughters, Shirlee (Garza) Pineda, Great Bend, Carolina (Garza) Bojorquez and husband, Jose, Hugoton; four brothers, Juan Garza, Alice, Texas, Alfredo Garza, Ulysses, Rodolfo Garza, Rotan, Texas, and Samuel Garza, Kismet; Senyda Garza, San Antonio, Texas, Antonia Carabejal, ulysses, Ofelia Garza, Ulysses; four sisters, Amelia Trevino, Ulysses, Senyda Garza, San Antonio, Texas, Antonia Carabajal, Ulysses, Ofelia Garza, Ulysses; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gilberto Garza; three grandchildren, Victoria Rios, Amanda Rios, Marcos Garza; one sister, Hermina Gonzales; three brothers, Luis, David, and Carlos Garza.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church in Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.
Burial will be at Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

RANDALL GRANT
Randall "Randy" Grant, 38, of Liberal, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center.
He was born March 3, 1965, to Donald and Ethel Marie (Buck) Grant in Liberal.
He married Melissa Deanne Mills on Dec. 28, 1991, in Liberal. She survives.
He graduated from Fellowship Baptist School in 1983, and attended Seward County Community College and Wichita State University.
He was co-owner, and manager of Southwest Tires in Liberal.
His hobbies included playing golf at Willow Tree Golf Course, and playing with his kids.
Other survivors include, two sons, Preston and Payton Grant, of the home; one daughter, Keely Grant, also of the home; his mother, Ethel Marie Grant, Liberal; and four brothers, Richard "Rick" Grant, and Robert "Rob" Grant, both of Liberal, Ronald Graves, Omaha, Neb., and David Graves, Marlow, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his father; and his grandparents.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Prater presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, and from 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

TOMMY E. SMITH
ULYSSES Tommy E. Smith, 71, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born June 21, 1931, to James Thomas and Vera Bonnie (West) Smith in Vinta, Okla.
He married Marilyn J. York on Jan. 22, 1955, in Syracuse. She survives.
He farmed until 1979, and then worked for Kearney County Road Department for more than 20 years before retirement.
His hobbies included gardening, fishing, and outdoors.
Other survivors include, one son, Andy Smith, Ulysses; one daughter, Tammy Smith and companion, Dean Burnett, Boise City, Okla.; one brother, James Smith and wife, Barbara, Vinita, Okla.; two sisters, Lucille Rame Ballance, Oklahoma City, and Cora Kincade and husband, Wayne, Vinita; and one granddaughter, Brittany Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph Smith; and one sister, Bonnie Ruckman.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Syracuse Cemetery
with the Pastor Jerry Hacker presiding.

HELEN M. NIX-HATHAWAY
HUGOTON Helen Maxine (Nix) Hathaway, 84, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born April 2, 1918, to Clarence L. and Hazel M. (Costin) Nix in Worth, Miss.
She married Addison Everett Hathaway on Dec. 31, 1938, in Dewey, Okla. He survives.
She was a former teacher and office manager for Culligan Water Conditioning.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hugoton, and O.E.S.
Other survivors include, three sons, Gary Hathaway and wife, Sonja, Ulysses, Rev. Ken Hathaway and wife, Jan, Liberal, Doyle Hathaway and wife, Allene, Olathe; one brother, Paul Nix and wife, Glenna, Hugoton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Costin Nix; and one sister, Thelma Holt.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Hugoton, with the Rev. Don Koehn presiding.
Burial will be at Hugoton Cemetery.

MADEAN HEYEN
MANTER Madean Heyen, 76, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born Feb. 13, 1927, to Cobus John and Martha Rose (Verning) Heyen in Stafford.
He married June Tindall on Nov. 28, 1959, in Fort Worth, Texas. She survives.
He graduated from Stafford High School in 1945.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and later was a farmer and rancher.
He was a member of the VFW, Stafford Church of Christ, and former member of Stafford Farmer's Union, and FFA.
Other survivors include, one brother, Orlin Heyen, Stafford; six nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Meryle Heyen.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson with the Rev. Dave Kauffman presiding.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stafford Cemetery
in Stafford with Richard Foster and Darrel Murphy presiding.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

LAKIN Helen Marie Bell, 87, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.

She was born March 1, 1916, to John and Carrie (Flickner) Graber near Pretty Prairie.
She married George Bell on April 30, 1934 in Scott City. He died Jan. 27, 1987.
Her hobbies included spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Wesleyan Church, and Women's Missionary Society in Lakin.
Survivors include, one son, James R. Bell and wife, Kristina, Lakin; four daughters, Dorothy Shankle and husband, Russell, Jane Vanover and husband, Louis, Elizabeth Parks and husband, William, all of Lakin, and Bonnie Bell, Houston, Texas; two brothers, John Graber and wife, Anna, and Marvin Graber and wife, Laura, both of Kendall; two sisters, Florence Boese, Syracuse, and Alice Jury and husband, John, Pratt; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; numerous other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Selma Ross; two grandchildren, Jayme Nelson and Hayden Parks Jr.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wesleyan Church in Lakin with the Ministers Steve Sparks and Marvin Moberly presiding.
Burial will be at Lakin Cemetery
in Lakin.
