ORLAN P. JOHNSON
ULYSSES ญญ Orlan P. Johnson, 80, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born Nov. 24, 1922, to Robert Oxley and Minnie Florence (Preston) Johnson in Wilson County.
He married Marjorie Jean Metcalf July 26, 1943, in Ulysses. She died Oct. 20, 1998.
He worked for Koss Construction Company in Topeka for 38 years, retiring in 1988. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Shamrock Bay Aircraft Carrier.
His hobbies included gardening, traveling, family, and cats.
He was a former member of the VFW and American Legion.
Survivors include, three sisters, Pauline Alford, Ulysses, Nora Dack, Van Orme, Texas, and Jesse Kline, Big Lake, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Mahmand, Harry, and Kenneth Johnson; two sisters, Vergie Adams and Lucy McCready.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with the Rev. Dennis H. Livingston presiding.
Burial with military graveside rites by Charles B. Post No. 79 will follow at Ulysses Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

BEVERLY BEOHLER
ULYSSES ญญ Beverly Beohler, 61, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born April 26, 1941, to Clyde Leroy and Lois Lavada (Titus) Faulds in Garden City.
She was a beautician for four years before her employment with Tarbet Ready Mix and Construction in Ulysses.
Her hobbies included her kids, gardening, and pets.
She was a lifetime resident of Ulysses.
Survivors include, her mother, Ulysses; Joe Tarbet, of the home; one son, William J. Beohler Jr., Parker, Colo.; three daughters, Kim Harmon, Ulysses, Debbie Bennett, Ruidosa, N.M., and Tari Jo Perdue, Lawrence; one brother, Robert Faulds, Grand Junction, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father; one daughter, April June Beohler; one sister, Dixie Piper; two granddaughters, Bo Megan Beohler and Mallari Genet Harmon; and one niece, Tamara Piper.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.
Private family inurnment will be at Ulysses Cemetery.

FRANCES M. KREBS
STERLING, Colo. ญญ Frances M. Krebs, 74, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Sterling.
She was born Dec. 25, 1928, to Frank and Clara (Hemenway) Fraim in Tyrone, Okla.
She married Joseph E. Krebs April 5, 1949, in Oklahoma City. He survives.
She attended Panhandle Agricultural and Mechanical College in Goodwell, Okla., and later graduated from Northeastern State College in Talequah, Okla.
She was a schoolteacher in Nebraska, California, and Colorado for 32 years.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Delta Literary Club, Northeast Colorado Retired School Employees Association, and Christ United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include, one son, Danny J. Krebs and wife, Carolyn, Arnold, Md.; one granddaughter, Lisa Krebs, Austin, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Topinka, Beaver, Okla., and Lila Houdyshell, Ottawa; two step-grandsons, Dr. Michael Ward and wife, Dr. Mia Ward, Austin, and Randy Ward, St. Peters, Mo.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church with the Revs Derek and Joyce DeToni-Hill presiding.
Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery
in Sterling.

ALFRED E. SHADDY
Alfred E. Shaddy, 79, of Liberal, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born July 7, 1923, to William and Mary (Shalloup) Shaddy in Alva, Okla.
He married Pauline Fisher on Nov. 17, 1956, in Wichita, Texas. She survives.
He was a retired farmer.
He and his wife served together in ministry work for more than 64 years. He served as an elder in his local congregation for many years.
He had been a Liberal resident for 30 years.
Other survivors include, one sister, Doris Potter, Wichita; one nephew, Rodney Shaddy, Houston, Texas; one niece, Lisa Thomas, Wichita; one aunt, Rose Simon, Omaha, Neb.; numerous other relatives.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Barry Hagerman presiding.
Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. until noon Monday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

TERESA M. MATILE
EMPORIA ญญ Teresa M. "Tiny" Matile, 82, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Vintage Manor in Emporia.
She was born May 16, 1920 to George Korphage and Matilda (Etzkorn) Korphage in Olpe.
She married Daniel H. Matile on Dec. 31, 1946, in Wichita. He survives.
She was a homemaker and seamstress. She was also employed at Boeing in Wichita, Paragon Inc. in Herington, and Rigid Steel in Cottonwood Falls.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Strong City, St. Anthony's Alter Society, Social Circle Extension Club in Bazaar, and Emporia Saddle Club.
Other survivors include, three sons, D.J. Matile and wife, Lois, Herington, Joe A. Matile and wife, Lisa, Liberal, and Gene C. Matile, Elmdale; one daughter, Elaine K. Russett and husband, Fay, Jetmore; sisters-in-law, Nettie Korphage and Fern Windler, both of Emporia, and Mabel Matile, Madison; four grandsons, Farold J. Russett, Augusta, Flint S. Russett, Lawrence, Cody and Shane Matile, both of Liberal.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Fred, John George, Bernard, Leonard, Lawrence, and Leo Korphage; sisters, Anna Meier, Rose Schneider and Addie Schneider; and one grandson, Travis Wade Russett.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Strong City with the Father Jeffrey Fasching presiding.
Burial will be at Strong City Cemetery.

HUGOTON ญญ Betty Louise (Hoppe) Brown, 80, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton.
She was born May 30, 1922, to Louis and Hannah Faye (Rusmaisel) Hoppe in Lamar, Colo.
She married Robert Leroy Brown on Feb. 13, 1954, in Clayton, N.M. He died Oct. 7, 1999.
She was a homemaker.
Her hobbies included spending time with her family.
She had been a Hugoton resident since 1949.
Survivors include, one son, N. Virgil Milburn, Hugoton; three daughters, Pam Brown, Page, Ariz., Pat Willis, Hugoton, and Bobbi Dobbs, Weatherford, Okla.; one brother, Louis Hoppe, Port LaBelle, Fla.; one sister, Grace Payne, Lamar; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Tuffy Hoppe; two sisters, Margaret McVicker and Joan Clarke.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton with the Pastor Larry Bradford presiding.
Burial will be at Hugoton Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at Paul's Funeral Home.

NELLIE B. COUNTRYMAN
KINSLEY ญญ Nellie B. Countryman, 82, died Saturday March 8, 2003, at Park West Plaza in Wichita.
She was born March 27, 1920, to Millard M. and Ethel J. (White) Akers in Pueblo, Colo.
She married Roy W. Turner on Dec. 29, 1943, in Beaver Okla. He died Jan. 28, 1974.
She married John Countryman on Dec. 19, 1976, in Kinsley. He died in 1979.
She worked as a psychiatric aid.
She was a former Kinsley resident.
Survivors include, one son, Merle Chandler, Ariz.; three daughters, Linda Jackson, Hays, Connie Stahlman, Springfield, Mo., and Brenda Pickering, Offerle; one brother, Richard Akers, Hays; two sisters, Fannie Goldy, Anderson, Ind., and Arlene Mauch, also of Anderson; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Offerle United Methodist Church with Avery Rutledge presiding.
Burial will be at Hillide Cemetery
in Kinsley.
