LARRY D. ZORTMAN
FOWLER Larry D. Zortman, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at his home in Fowler.
He was born Sept. 2, 1938, to Dimple and Harriet Amelia (Scott) Zortman in Fowler.
He married Treova Keeton Sept. 7, 1957, in Pampa, Texas. She survives.
He graduated from Fowler High School in 1956.
He worked as a field service technician for Xerox for 21 years.
Other survivors include, two sons, Terry Zortman, Dallas, Texas, Tony Zortman and wife, Jeanie, Dodge City; one daughter, LaWana VanNahmen and husband, Lyle, Spearman, Texas; one brother, Mick Zortman, Mexico, Miss; two sisters, Karolynn Roberts, Fowler, and Ramona Barton, Gig Harbor, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mac Zortman; and one sister, Kathleen.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fowler Friends Church in Fowler with the Pastor Eldon Cox presiding.
Burial will be at Fowler Cemetery
in Fowler.

EARL IPSON
ELKHART Earl "Roger" Ipson, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
He was born Dec. 4, 1927, to Earl and Beva (Bartley) Ipson in Elkhart.
He married Bonnie Gerrond on June 18, 1949, in Clayton, N.M. She survives.
He graduated from Rolla High School, and later attended Panhandle A&M College.
He served in the U.S. Army in Japan, and worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company until retirement after 35 years. He also served several terms on the Elkhart School Board, Elkhart City Council, and the Morton County Housing Authority.
His hobbies included volunteer work, golfing, fishing, playing pool, and children.
He was a member of Elkhart United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Elkhart Kiwanis Club, Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Retirees, and Point Rock Golf Club.
Other survivors include, one daughter, Teresa Harder and husband, Ted, Elkhart; one son, Ted Ipson, Liberal; two brothers, Howard Ipson, Surprise, Ala., and Louis Ipson, Derby; two sisters, Earlene Williams, Rolla, and Eileen Firmin, Perryton, Texas; five grandchildren, Kelli Tanking and husband, Terry, Pueblo, Colo., T.J. Ipson, Liberal, Chelsi Harder, Stillwater, Okla., Ethan Harder, Hays, and Tara Rocha, Corpus Christi, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Paige Rocha, and Zylee Marie Ipson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant son, Ronald Dean.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elkhart United Methodist Church in Elkhart with the Pastor Jim Brackett presiding.
Burial will be at Elkhart Cemetery
in Elkhart.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. today, and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.

FRED L. NICKELSON
DEERFIELD, Miss. Fred Lorenzo Nickelson, 47, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Mercy Health Center.
He was born April 1, 1955, to David "Jack" and Louise (Ring) Nickelson in Nevada, Miss.
He married Sharon Volden Nov. 28, 1992, in Liberaal. She survives.
He graduated from Nevada High School in 1973.
He was a U.S. Marine veteran, and was self-employed as a diesel mechanic.
His hobbies included automobiles.
Other survivors include, one son, Joshua Volden, of the home; two daughters, LeTisha Volden and Nichole Volden, both of Fort Scott; two brothers, William "Bill" Nickelson, Mulberry, and Mike Nickelson, Deerfield; two sisters, Pat Mashek, Deerfield, and Betty Simpson, Fort Scott; two grandchildren, Aundraya Anderson and Talon Volden, both of Fort Scott, one expected in May.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Nickelson and Edward Nickelson; and one sister, Rosalie Nickelson.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cheney Witt memorial Chapel with the Rev. Rick Womack presiding.
Burial will follow at Deerfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Cheney Witt Chapel.

JULIA FRIEND
Johnson Julia (Stidd) Friend, 89, of New Iberia, La., died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia.
She was born June 10, 1913, to Edmund and Frances (Mayes) Stidd in Columbus, Ohio.
She married Raymond E. Friend. He died in 1961.
She worked as a financial secretary at First United Methodist Church in New Iberia for 20 years. She was also a long-time employee of LeBlanc and Broussard Ford and Dauterive Hospital.
Her hobbies included playing Pokeno.
Survivors include, two sons, Ralph E. Friend, New Iberia, and Robert G. Friend, Majava, Calif.; three brothers, Dallas Stidd, Logansville, Ga., Raymond Stidd, Blenhiem, S.C., and David Stidd, Crystal River, Fla.; one sister, Dorothy Woodsbury, Pensacola, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Stidd Reece; and one brother, Kensil Stidd.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson with the Rev. Glenn Fogo presiding.
HELEN E. HUNT
Helen E. Hunt, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, in Wichita.
She was born July 18, 1914, to J. Anderson and Bernice (Benson) Ratcliff in Lincoln, Neb.
She married Emery W. Hunt May 25, 1938, in Tryon, Okla. He survives.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Friends Church.
Other survivors include one daughter, Alice Duwe, Wichita; one brother, Richard Ratcliff, Agra, Okla.; one sister, Edith Ratcliff, Khayega, Kenya, Africa; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Elliot Mortuary Chapel in Anthony with the Pastor Emery Hunt presiding.
Burial will be at Freeport Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Friends African Missions in care of Elliot Mortuary in Anthony.
IRENE REID
Irene Reid, 65, of Liberal, died Friday, Feb. 28, at Beaver County Memorial Hospital in Beaver, Okla.
She was born May 9, 1937, to Archer C. and Sylvia M. (Cullison) Shriner.
She married Harold D. Reid Dec. 8, 1956, in Tucumcari, N.M. He survives.
She graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1955.
She worked in several motels and cafes.
Her hobbies included gardening, knitting, and playing piano.
She had been a Liberal resident since 1966.
Other survivors include, one son, George Reid, Chandler, Ariz.; two daughters, Faith Holifield and husband, Larry, Liberal, Debby Whiteley, Liberal; one brother, Ellis Shriner and wife, Sherry, Cimarron; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rod Whiteley presiding.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Cemetery
in Medicine Lodge.
Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Miller Mortuary.
ELLEN MILLS
PLAINS Ellen Mills, 83, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Love Tree Compassionate Care Center in Meade.
She was born Oct. 8, 1919, to Wiley and Martha (Farmer) Bess in Rush Springs, Okla.
She married Raymond Mills July 2, 1992, in Lawton, Okla. He died July 2, 1992.
She graduated from Biney High School in Biney Ridge, Okla.
She was a member of the Baptist Church in Rush Springs.
Survivors include, one son, Dale Mills and wife, Patty, Hooker, Okla.; three daughters, Georgia Blain and husband, Gene, Henrietta, Texas, Deanna Beaver and husband, David, Liberal, and Patsy Connors and husband, Darrell, Stockton, Calif.; two brothers, Bill Bess, Duncan, Okla., and Arthur Bess, Killeen, Texas; one sister, Pearl Evans, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Isaac Bess, Jeff Bess, Eugene Bess, and James Bess; and four sisters, Janette Wright, Susie Burnett, Georgia Arron, and Auda Bell Davis.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Plains Cemetery
in Plains with the Pastor Jim Dunn presiding.
Burial will be at Plains Cemetery.
