Ruthellen Louise Welch, 87, Atchison, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Atchison Senior Village.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, August 23, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Sunday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorials in honor of Mrs. Welch are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Ruthellen was born March 19, 1923 in Atchison County the daughter of Ernest Robert and Louise Bertha (Kley) Peuker. She attended school in Independence Valley. She worked for the Saunders Mop Factory for over 20 years and operated a dairy in Cummings, KS. Ruthellen enjoyed raising chickens, gardening and loved being outdoors. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She married Clarence Edward Welch on March 5, 1944 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1950.
Survivors include sons, Ronnie (Debbie) Welch and Phillip Welch, both of Cummings, KS; daughters, Shirley Moore, Leavenworth, KS and Connie (John) Gering, Cummings, KS; a brother, Dwight Peuker, Atchison; a sister, Virginia Hoffman, Liberty, MO, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
Ruthellen was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ernest Peuker; a sister, Betty Reeves; a grandson, Aaron Miller; great-grandchildren, Nikki Guardado, Steven Gering and Christopher Misner, a daughter-in-law, Tammy Welch and a son-in-law Ron Moore.
O. Carl Boyer, 91, of Atchison, KS, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Atchison Medicalodge.
Graveside Funeral Services and Burial will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 22, at Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison. Memorial contributions in memory of Carl are suggested to Abundant Life Hospice. The Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral is in charge of the arrangements.
Carl was born on September 19, 1918 in Sloan, IA, the son of Ono Carl and Olive Mary (Dobbertein) Boyer, Sr. He attended schools in Iowa and Carl and Dorothy Link were united in marriage on June 11, 1936 in Parker, South Dakota. Carl entered the military and served overseas in the US Army during World War II. Carl worked for Rockwell International in California and Kearney, NE, prior to moving in 1961 to Atchison, where he continued to work in Quality Control for Rockwell until he retired in 1982. Carl served an unexpired term as an Atchison City Commissioner. Carl enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, on June 18, 2008; and a sister, Peggy Garoutte.
Survivors include two sons, Rollie and Brenda Boyer, Atchison and John and Deborah Boyer, St. Charles, MO; sister, Grayce E. Uhl, Moville, IA; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Justin Kent Behler, 47, Atchison, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Atchison Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 23, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Cartmill, officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Huron Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the children’s education fund or donor’s choice and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Justin was born December 14, 1962 in Tucson, AZ the son of Grimes Edwin and Bette J. (Luckett) Behler. He graduated from high school in 1980 and was in the Marine Corps serving at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and spent time in Okinawa, Japan. Justin was a core maker for Bradken in Atchison. He was a faithful father, a very talented caricature artist, an excellent cook, and loved to read, especially Lonesome Dove. Justin loved cooking his famous potato salad for the veterans’ dinners and enjoyed helping with the Color Guard for the American Legion.
Justin married Bobbi Jo Meade on June 14, 1997 in Atchison, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include his father, Ed Behler, Atchison; sons, Josh Behler, Atchison; and Alex and Austin Behler, of the home; daughters, Clarrisa Clark, Clarksville, TN, and Allison Behler, of the home; brothers, Gregory Behler, Weston, MO; David Behler, Atchison and a sister, Dianna Snell, Atchison, KS.
Justin was preceded in death by his mother, Bette Behler, on November 1, 2009.
Malinda 'Laurie' Wilburn, 49, Atchison, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010 at her home.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM, Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Mrs. Wilburn has been cremated. Laurie was born June 5, 1961 in Leavenworth, KS the daughter of Frank and Malinda (Mylam) Valles. Her dad passed away when she was 5 and her mother married Frank Wiseman who treated her like his own daughter. Laurie enjoyed playing bingo, painting ceramics, watching television and playing Tetris.
Survivors include a son, Jason Valles and his wife, Jennifer, Atchison, KS; step-brother, Tim Wiseman, Leavenworth, KS; step-sister, Terry Wiseman and 6 grandchildren, Tiana, Jack, and Timothy Valles, Bradenton, FL and Dylan, Kristina and Brianna Area, Atchison, KS.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry Valles.
Meta M. Bechtold, 96, of Atchison, KS, died Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Meta was born on Feb.16th, 1914 in the Sumner Community the daughter of LeRoy and Hannah (Gilliland) Lister. She attended Atchison grade schools and worked for 16 years as a seamstress for the former Horton Garment Factory, Atchison. She was a housewife and homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, knitting, sewing, gardening and raising flowers, cooking and especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Meta was married to Paul W. Bechtold on Nov. 11, 1933 at the Atchison County Courthouse. Mr. Bechtold preceded her in death on March 29, 1996. Survivors include three sons; John (Pat) Bechtold, Littleton, CO., James (Sally) Bechtold, Atchison, KS., and Tom (Jeannine) Bechtold, Leavenworth, KS., a daughter, Patricia (Gene) Kane, Atchison, KS., fourteen grand children, eighteen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Her parents, five brothers; Emmett, Elmer, Chester, Ira Lister, and stillborn infant brother and sister, Theodore and Thelma Lister, also preceded her in death.
Mary Ann Kahling, 71, of Topeka, KS, passed away Friday August 13, 2010 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS.

Mary Ann was born October 16, 1938 in Atchison KS, daughter of Andy and Florence (Vanhorn) Servaes. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and did private nursing. She enjoyed drawing and painting, horses, going to auctions, but especially enjoyed her grandchildren and spending time with her sisters.
Mary Ann Servaes married Jack Robinson in September of 1956 he preceded her in death in 1975. Survivors include four daughters; Sue Rhoades, Holton, KS, Kathy Burgess, Holton, KS, Robin (Michael) Whitten, Stewartsville, MO and Becky Robinson, Lawrence, KS, five brothers; Leroy Servaes, Atchison, Gene Servaes, Atchison, Larry Servaes, Atchison, Phil Servaes, Atchison, Richard Servaes, Rushville, MO, five sisters; Carole Noll, Cummings, KS, Janet Lee, Atchison, Dorothy Lee, Royal City, WA, Joan, Ragsdale, Topeka, Rita Rookstool, Topeka, ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son Joseph Jack Robinson, one brother; Louis, a sister; Donna Urban and two grandsons; Zachary Gilliland and Michael Austin Whitten.
Lloyd W. Lanter, 83 of Atchison, KS died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at his home surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Kagin and Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Lloyd was born on Feb. 12th,1927 in Brown County, KS., the son of Bruce T. and Grace Arlene (Dodge) Lanter. He attended Brown and Atchison County schools before graduating from the Everest High School. Mr. Lanter was a U. S. Army veteran serving in the Mechanized Calvary from 1945-1946 . Mr. Lanter was a farmer from 1947 to 1975 in the Everest, Horton area. He worked for the State of Kansas as a Driver’s License Agent from 1966-1991. After his retirement he worked for the Atchison County Co-op from 1991- 1995 and for Colonial Realty Company, Atchison from 1988-2009. Lloyd was a member of the Everest Christian Church, the Everest American Legion Post, and the Atchison McDonalds Coffee Club. He enjoyed collecting kerosene lamps and miniature John Deere tractors. He especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lloyd was married to RuthEllen Lutz on Aug. 19, 1951 at the Everest Christian Church. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son; Edward D. (Alice) Lanter, Atchison, KS., two daughters; Sharon L. (Dwight) Locke, Atchison, and Sandra K. (Steven) Handke, Horton, KS., two brothers; Donald (Helen) Lanter, Horton, KS., Richard (Donna )Lanter, Horton, KS., two sisters; Ruth (Carol) Smith, Everest, KS., and Helen Coffelt, Topeka. Two sister-in laws; Wilda Lanter and Marjorie Lanter, both of Horton, KS., Nine grandchildren, five step grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and nine step great grandchildren. His parents, two brothers; Robert and Roy Lanter, and brother in-law, Raymond Coffelt preceded him in death.
