Morris Dee Roberts
PLYMOUTH -- Morris Dee Roberts, 69, of Plymouth passed away at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, May
22, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He was born Dec. 29, 1941 to Earl 'Jack' and Cora (Childers) Roberts in Malden, Mo. As a
small child, they moved to Dexter, Mo. and in 1957 the family moved to Lakeville.
Morris married Joan F. Hummel who preceded him in death, June 21, 1968. June 28, 1969, he
married Joyce A. (Peterson) Roberts, who survives.
Morris is also survived by his son, Terry (Brenda) Roberts of LaPaz; two grandchildren, April
(Andy) Palya and Anthony Roberts; four great-grandchildren, Abigail Atkins, Brendon Palya,
Lucas Palya and Kira L. Roberts; sister, Kay (David) Rowe of Dexter, Mo.; and brother, Guy
(Carol) Roberts of Dexter, Mo. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law,
Dian (Alton) Hershberger of Union, Mich., Carol Dove of Plymouth, and Gwen (Jim) McGrath of
Slidell, La.; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Ellen) Hummel of Walkerton, Rex (Theresa) Hummel of
LaPaz, and Wes (Marge) Hummel of Bremen; good friends, Nancy and Charles Rogers and
Sandy Neighbors, and the family pet, 'Pete.' Two sisters, Mary Ann Roberts and Francis Rupert
preceded him in death.
Morris retired Sept. 1, 2001 from Honeywell (Bendix Corp) after 35 years of service. He formerly
worked for Taylor’s Grocery Store in Lakeville. He enjoyed antique tractors and small engines,
NASCAR and drivers, Mark Martin and Kyle Busch. He loved hunting and fishing and held a
lifetime license.
Private graveside services were held at South Union cemetery, Nappanee. Palmer Funeral
Home-Lakeville handled the arrangements.
Contributions in memory of Morris Dee Roberts may be offered to the charity of the donor’s
choice.

Patrick Allen Rogan
ARGOS -- Patrick Allen Rogan, 81, of Argos died May 22, 2011 at 7:13 p.m. at St. Joseph
Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, following a three-month illness.
He was born Jan. 10, 1930 in Plymouth to Cornelius and Lena (Hite) Rogan.
He lived in Marshall County the last 15 years coming from Homosassa Springs, Fla. He was a
mechanic for the state of Florida.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1946 to 1951. He had
attended Argos High School.
Patrick is survived by: sons, Terry Rogan and Patrick Rogan Jr., both of North Carolina;
daughters, Sue Cottle and Doris Rogan, both of North Carolina; and sister, Phyllis (Roger) Jacox
of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Robert Rogan, Don Rogan, and Lowell Rogan.
Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Earl Grossman
Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Rice
officiating.
Burial will be at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Anna Francis Krick
WALKERTON -- Anna Francis Krick, 80, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in her home
after an illness.
Anna was born Dec. 21, 1930 in South Charleston, W.Va. to Dewey and Nona (Thompson)
Campbell. Feb. 16, 1952 in LaPorte, she was married to Delbert G. Krick, who survives. Also
surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth (Daniel) Drotar of Walkerton, and Cynthia (Kevin) Stock
of Fort Wayne; one son, Frederick (Ana) Krick of Royal Oaks, Mich.; 10 grandchildren,
Madeleine, Dmitri, Emerson and Avery Krick, Taylor, Logan and Gavin Stock and Stephanie,
Scott and Ryan Drotar.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Sylvia, Helen, Margaret and Lela May
and two brothers, Leroy and Bill.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Walkerton United Methodist Church and was
an avid bowler in leagues at Walkerton and North Liberty.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 4 p.m. EDT at the Walkerton United
Methodist Church with Rev. Charlene Allen officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn cemetery,
Walkerton.
Friends may call Saturday at the church from 2 to 4 p.m. EDT. Memorial contributions may be
given to the church. Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel is handling arrangements.

Hilda May Strang
NAPPANEE -- Hilda May Strang, 100, formerly of Nappanee, died at 2:07 p.m., Wednesday,
May 25 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Carol) Strang, Syracuse; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor Strang,
Nappanee; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; sisters,
Cleo Brown, Delores (Willard) Klotz, Phyllis (Robert) Blosser, all of Nappanee, June Ganshorn,
Etna Green; brothers, Dale (Mim) Watkins, Etna Green, Ernest (Eleanor) Watkins, and Max
(Eleanor) Watkins, both of Bourbon.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home,
Nappanee. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 1 at the First Brethren
Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Brethren Church or the Center for
Hospice and Palliative Care.

Allen Ray Marshall
CARMEL -- Allen Ray Marshall of Carmel passed away May 27 at Zionsville Meadows at the
age of 88. He was born to Ray and Charlotte Marshall in Culver Dec. 5, 1922. While growing
up in Culver, he loved going fishing after refurbishing his grandfather’s boat, loved singing, acting
in plays, played basketball and ran track, and at the age of 16 traveled throughout the state as a
member of the Culver Rifle and Pistol Team. He was proud of his first solo flight in a Cub
airplane in 1942. Allen continued his love of flying when he enlisted Dec. 2, 1942 for active duty
in the United States Army Air Corps. He graduated as a pilot May 23, 1944 and was assigned to
the South Pacific theater of operations. In August, 1947, the USAAC became the United States
Air Force and Allen advanced to the rank of captain. April 26, 1947, he married Betty Mae
Boswell who later passed away in 1963 leaving him with their three children, Rebecca Denaway,
Retired Col. Rex Marshall (Eva), and Alicia (Todd) Lewis. During their family years, Allen worked
within the life insurance industry and spent most of the time with New York Life. Allen began
working for Manpower, Inc. in Indianapolis and fell in love with Esther Becker Battenberg. They
married Oct. 30, 1965, and he gained another daughter, Dr. Janice Battenberg. Allen was then
employed by the Truck Equipment and Body Company (TEBCO) where he spent 16 years with
the company and retired as an executive manager in December, 1984.
During his retirement years, Allen and Esther volunteered many hours behind the scenes helping
Janice establish Midwest Academy, Inc. dba Academy Plus School. Several years later, he
worked a few hours a month to help with the school’s maintenance. Allen loved to travel and
would joke by saying, 'I have traveled the world over and some of the better parts of Michigan.'
He loved genealogy and was quite a historian and leaves behind many albums of family history.
Through his love of photography, he compiled many pictures to accompany all his volumes of
writings. Other family members he leaves behind are a sister-in-law, two nieces, 12
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His two brothers, Thomas (Mildred) Marshall and
James (Martha), preceded him in death.
The family wishes to thank those at Zionsville Meadows who became his new friends and
caregivers during his last year and a half struggle with dementia. In lieu of flowers, contributions
can be made to either the Broad Ripple #34 American Legion Post or the Carmel #155 American
Legion Post or the Indiana Hamilton County Humane Society in honor of Allen’s canine lap
blanket and sleeping buddy – Cody Jack.
Visitation was May 31, 2011 at the Carmel Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary. Allen is interred at
the Indianapolis Washington Park North cemetery.

James Manley Moss
CULVER -- James Manley Moss, 87, of Culver died May 28, 2011 at Miller’s Merry Manor,
Culver.
He is survived by daughters, Deborah (Curtin) Kelley of Columbus, Ohio, Rebecca (Tom)
Brovont of Rochester, Elizabeth (Dennis) Gilley of Florida, and Barbara Porter of Fort Wayne; 10
grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Odom Funeral Home, Culver.
Funeral service is Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Culver Academies Memorial Chapel.
Interment will be at Culver Masonic cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the James Manley Moss Memorial Fund at Culver Educational
Foundation.

Jo Ann Harris
ROCHESTER -- Jo Ann Harris, 57, of 2411 Waterview Dr., Rochester, died at 11:52 a.m.,
Monday, May 30, 2011 at Woodlawn Hospital.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Miller of Rochester; a son, Keith Harris of Rochester;
parents, Norman and Doris Warner of Rochester; four sisters, her twin, June Chalk of
Rochester, Tiwna Losee of Mission, Texas, Stephanie Warner of Indianapolis, and Vicki Corbett
of Utah; a brother, Tom Warner of South Whitley; and two grandchildren.
Services will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W.
18th St. Rochester.

Howard H. Howard
PLYMOUTH -- George H. Howard, 72, of 17291 West 4B Road, Plymouth, passed away
Saturday, June 4, 2011, at his home.
He was born Nov. 14, 1938, in Goose Rock, Ky., to George and Mary (Henson) Howard. George
and Loretta Jackson were married June 13, 1958, in Adrian, Mich. They moved to the Marshall
County area in 1965. George was a truck driver and mechanic. He was a proud member of the
National Rifle Association. His passion, for the last few years, was attending many gun shows.
George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loretta Howard; their daughters, Camie (George)
Howard-Rock of Dallas, Texas, and Cheryl (Tom) Gates of Statham, Ga.; their son; George H.
Howard of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren; three sisters; and three brothers.
Memorial gifts may be given to:

Kenneth Andre Allen
ROCHESTER -- Kenneth Andre Allen, 48, of 4860 Wood Lane, Rochester, died at 7:30 p.m.,
Friday, June 10, 2011 at his residence.
He is survived by a son, Siron Rafael Allen of Indianapolis; daughters, Faye (Kevin) Woodcox of
Rochester, and Kimberly Patton of Etna Green; his parents, Edward and Thelma Allen of
Rochester; sisters, Diane (George) Louden of Indianapolis, and Sheila Allen of Culver; brothers,
Charles Edward (Irene) Allen of Rochester, Dudley Allen of Rochester, Todd (Angie) Allen of
Rochester, and Jeffrey Scott Allen of Chicago; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date.
Good Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Lou E. Puckett
PLYMOUTH -- Lou E. Puckett, 96, of Plymouth, formerly of Knox, died Saturday, June 11, 2011.
She is survived by her children, Cathie Eilers of Knox, Gerri Wittchen of Knox, Wilma (John)
Palm of Arizona, Donna (Ron) Scott of Plymouth, Wilgus (Judy) Puckett of Knox, Ralph (Shelby)
Puckett of Culver, Henry (Dorothy) Puckett of Hamlet, and Cal (Nancy) Puckett of Winamac; 27
grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church in Knox.
Interment will take place at Highland cemetery in North Judson.

James Eugene Yeazel
PLYMOUTH -- Former Mayor James Eugene 'Jim' Yeazel died unexpectedly of a heart attack,
at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, June 11, 2011, eight days before his 84th birthday, at his Washington
Street home in Plymouth.
An enormously popular and respected man, his loss will be felt by many who laughed at his
jokes and were cheered by his presence.
Jim was born in Plymouth June 19, 1927, the son of Milo David and Cora Ellen (Green) Yeazel.
He lived his whole life in Plymouth except for the time spent in the Navy at Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba, in World War II.
He graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1945. He was a member of Hi-Y and
Yellow River Sea Scouts.
Music was important to Jim all of his life. At an early age Jim was an excellent musician, and by
the age of 6, he was playing the piano and entertaining the crowd at the Mayflower Tavern while
his brother worked as a bartender. He then played with Dick Derf’s Band, singing, and playing
bass and piano at various gigs for nearly 42 years. He was also with the Russ Steiner Quartet,
The 3 Dimensions, The C Sharp Trio, and with Bob Richmond as The Two. He most recently
played with Doc Koontz.
Jim was a man of great faith and shared his talent while singing with the choir at the First United
Methodist Church where he was a member for the past 70 years.
Jim and Bonnie Lou Gardner first met at Franklin College in 1950 while Jim was visiting
Plymouth friends. On their first date, he took Bonnie to the races at the New Paris Speedway.
They were married at Bonnie’s home by Rev. Blake March 23, 1951 and this year celebrated 60
memorable and loving years.
In 1991 he retired as a supervisor from the Bendix Corporation -- Wheel and Brake Aerospace
Division after 46 years of service.
As a public servant in the 1960s and for 16 years, Jim was a justice of the peace with an office in
his home prior to the establishment of a municipal court system. In 2000, he was elected
Democratic Mayor of Plymouth, serving until 2004. As mayor he engaged his constituents and
fairly led all departments. On Oct. 11, 2003 he was honored for his service by then Gov. Joe
Kernan by being named a Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honor a sitting governor can
bestow on a citizen of Indiana.
Other civic involvements included being a member and past president of the Plymouth Arts
Commission, many years as a board member for the Marshall County Blueberry Festival, former
member of the American Legion Post 27 and current member of the V.F.W. Post 1162,
Plymouth Optimist Club and treasurer of the Marshall County Tourism & Convention Bureau.
He also held fraternal membership in the Plymouth Kilwinning Lodge No. 149, having been past
Worshipful Master, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite -- Valley of South Bend,
and the Michigan City Orak Shrine. He also served as a Past Patron of Eastern Star.
Jim is survived by Bonnie, his devoted wife; and by their children and grandchildren: a son,
Jeffrey J. and Marsha Yeazel, Plymouth and their children; Sarah Yeazel, Jonathon Yeazel,
Waylon (Amy) Budka, and Asher Budka; a daughter, Lori E. and Jeffrey Mills, also of Plymouth
and their children; Devin Taviner, Kenrick Mills, Cody (Aubrey) Mills and Deena (Donny) Osborn.
Six great-grandchildren also survive along with two Boston terriers who will also be missing their
best buddy.
A brother, Dick Feltz, of Florida, survives as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Ray Yeazel in 1988; three sisters,
Bonnie Girten, Opal Doll, and Phyllis Jones; and three brothers, Roy, Russell and Robert Yeazel.
Friends are invited to visit with Jim’s family Wednesday, June 15, 2011, from 3 to 8 p.m. in the
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. A Masonic memorial rite will
be held at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011 in the First United Methodist
Church, 400 N. Michigan St., Plymouth where calling will continue after 10 a.m. The Revs. Larry
Marhanka, pastor, and Matt Pickut, associate pastor, will officiate.
Military honors provided by members of the American Legion Post 27, VFW, DAV and South
Bend Honor Guard will follow in the Oakhill cemetery.
Family and friends will then return to the church fellowship hall for a celebration of Jim’s life.
Preferred memorial gifts are requested to the First United Methodist Church.
