CORONA, Calif. -- Raymond Lee Cook, 96, formerly of Rochester, died May 9, 2011 in Corona,
Calif.
He is survived by a daughter, Dianna Cook of Corona, Calif.; a son, James (Sheila Murphy)
Cook of Jefferson City, Mo.; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W.
18th St., Rochester.
Burial will follow the service at the Rochester IOOF cemetery.

Richard "Dean" Middaugh
NAPPANEE -- Richard 'Dean' Middaugh, 79, of Nappanee, died at 7:21 p.m., Monday, May 9,
2011 at IU Goshen Health.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; daughters: Kim (Dave) Jensen and Michelle (Jeff) Killian, both
of Nappanee and Dawn (Mike) Peterson, Bristol; five grandchildren; and a sister, Margie Galley,
South Bend.
Visitation will take place fro 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at Thompson-Lengacher &
Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at South Union cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nappanee Park Dept.

James T. Miller
WALKERTON -- James T. Miller, 55, passed away at his 4B Road residence Tuesday evening,
May 10, 2011 at 9 p.m. He remained at home in the care of his family and the Center for
Hospice after enduring a several year illness.
Jim was born the son of Ray W. and Esther L. (Stone) Miller March 18, 1956 in Colorado
Springs, Colo. He was raised in Plymouth and graduated from PHS in 1975 where he played
football and basketball and was known as 'Big Jim.'
He had been involved in his family’s painting business and farming. Jim had a love for row crop
farming, John Deere tractors and hunting. Before experiencing health problems he was a
dependable worker for Eagle Craft, Bomarko, Lobdell-Emery and Burt’s Body Shop.
Jim, along with his father, was a member of the Marshall County Sheriff's Posse and the VFW
Post 1162 Men’s Auxiliary. He also attended the North Liberty Church of Christ.
Surviving is his wife, Debora A. (Goodman) Miller whom he married Aug. 21, 1999 in Knoxville,
Tenn.; his parents, Ray and Esther Miller of Plymouth; a sister, RaeAnn Odom of Poplar Grove,
Miss.; Jim’s children: three daughters and one son from a former marriage whom remember
their Dad as being very family oriented. They are: DeAnn D. Nichols of Rochester, Ind.; Melanie
J. (Marty) Farrar; Jamie L. (Matthew) Mattke; and Bryan T. Miller, all of Plymouth. Also surviving
are five grandsons, one granddaughter, one niece and one nephew. A stepson, Michael 'Barney'
Harville and fianceé Laura of Akron, Ohio also survive; as well as one step grandson, one
step granddaughter; and Jim’s in-laws, James and Elizabeth Goodman of New Carlisle, Ind.
He was preceded in death by a stepson Jeffrey S. Harville.
Visitation for Jim will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the North Liberty Church of Christ, 65225 St. Rd 23,
North Liberty, Ind. with the Pastor Tim Stewart officiating. Calling will continue at the church
after 10 a.m. until time of services.
Burial will follow in the Tyner cemetery, Tyner, Ind.
Memorial gifts may be made to the family or the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.
Vincent - Hemophilia Foundation, 2001 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN, 46260, The Center for

Donald L. 'Swovy' Swoverland
WARSAW -- Donald L. 'Swovy' Swoverland, age 71, of Warsaw, Ind. passed away May 10,
2011 at 5:35 p.m. in Mason Healthcare & Rehabilitation, Warsaw.
He was born July 14, 1939 in Argos, Ind. to Lee and Lois (Seitz) Swoverland.
He married Lois (Barnett) Stull Feb. 29, 1972 in Warsaw. He was a 43-year resident of Warsaw.
Donald worked for RR Donnell & Sons as a machine operator for 38 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #49, Warsaw and a U.S. Army veteran serving
from 1957 to 1959.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Swoverland; three sons: Thomas (and spouse Diana) Stull,
Warsaw, Edward (and spouse Crystal) Swoverland, Mishawaka, Ind., and Mark (and spouse
Judy) Swoverland, Indianapolis; two daughters, Rhonda Hardy, Warsaw and Donna Romano,
Lakeville, Ind; sisters, Margaret Mikesell, Rochester, Ind., and Dorothy Overmeyer, Argos, Ind.;
13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Visitation will be Friday, May 13, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral
Chapel, Warsaw.
The service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the funeral chapel.
Pastor Terry Bradford will be officiating the service.
Burial will be Oakwood cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #49 and
VFW Post # 1126, both of Warsaw.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Kosciusko County Cancer Care
Fund, P.O. Box #1810, Warsaw, IN, 46581-1810.

Sr. Clarence Caspermyer
DONALDSON -- Sr. Clarence Caspermyer, PHJC, 80, died Sunday morning, May 1, 2011 at
her residence, in the Catherine Kasper Life Center, Donaldson.
Arrangements are pending with the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth.

Nellie M. Evashenko
WAKARUSA -- Nellie M. Evashenko, 95, of Wakarusa, formerly of Eugene, Ore., died
unexpectedly at 11:44 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at her home, of natural causes.
She is survived by a daughter, Joy (Willard N.) Slabaugh, Wakarusa; son, Philip D. (Debra)
Evashenko, Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, Nappanee and for one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15 at North Main Street Mennonite
Church.
Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park in Eugene at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Main Street Mennonite Church

Paul Hochstetler
NAPPANEE -- Paul Hochstetler, 92, of Nappanee, died at 2:55 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, at
Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse.
He is survived by his son, Douglas (Victoria) Hochstetler, Ariz.; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 15 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m., Monday, May 16, at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at be South Union cemetery with military graveside services by Nappanee
American Legion.
Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Care at Home Hospice, Nappanee American
Legion, or First Brethren Church.

Harold Lewis
PERRYSBURG -- Harold Lewis, 80, of Perrysburg, died at 9:31 p.m. Wednesday, May 11,
2011 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; his mother, Lucille Lewis of Rochester; daughters, Pam
(George) Wentz of Macy, Sandy (Edward) Click of Denver; a son, Dean (Paula) Mow of
Rochester; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty
Holloway and husband Jack of Grass Creek.
Visitation will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 16 at the Good Family Funeral Home,
1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Citizens cemetery, Rochester.
Memorials may be made to Miami Wabash County Hospice.

Donald Frank, Sr. Paul
GROVERTOWN -- Donald Frank Paul Sr., 74, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in I.U.
Health, Starke Hospital, Knox, Ind., after a sudden illness.
Don was born April 4, 1937 in Starke County, Ind. to Peter and Alma (Lowe) Paul and lived in the
area most of his life. March 1, 1957 in Knox, he was married to the former Mabel I. Rice.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel; one daughter, Rebecca (Robin) Pflugshaupt of Hamlet; one
son, Donald Paul Jr. of Delphi, Ind.; grandchildren: Amy and Adam Pflugshaupt, Airial Roland,
Fawn Paul, Darren Paul, Ashley Paul and Dustin Paul; and great-grandchildren: Lorena
Martinez, Skyla Cooley and Koen Guerra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Peter Paul.
Don was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Hamlet. He was the former manager of
the Fulton-Marshall County CO-OP, the leader of the Clover Leaf 4-H Club for 36 years, a former
board member and current member of the Starke County Farm Bureau Inc. and he bred and
raised pigs. He enjoyed bowling and playing softball for many years in various area leagues and
he loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and junk sales to find a bargain.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. (Central Time) at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of
Hamlet with Pastor Kyle Wright officiating.
Burial will be at the Fletcher cemetery, Hamlet.
Friends may call Monday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel and
Tuesday at the church after 10 a.m. A Remembrance Service will be held Monday at 8 p.m. at
the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Matthew
Lutheran Church or the Starke County Fair Board.

Anna Mae Rice
ROCHESTER -- Anna Mae Rice, 79, of Rochester, died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 11,
2011 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
She is survived by three nephews; and two niece-in-laws.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 14 at Good Family Funeral Home,
1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at noon Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Richland Center IOOF cemetery Rochester.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County.

Steven Louis Peltz
ROCHESTER -- Steven Louis Peltz, 58, of Rochester, died at 8:57 p.m. Thursday, May 12,
2011 at his place of work in Claypool following a sudden illness.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin Peltz (fiancé Jason Ousley) of Mentone; brothers, Brad
Peltz and Mark Peltz, both of Rochester; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at Maple Grove cemetery, with
military services.
The Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Wilma "Jean" Diangikis
PLYMOUTH -- Wilma 'Jean' Diangikis, 77, died Friday, May 13, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional
Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by daughters, Penny Diangikis of Grovertown and Kay (Doug) Marsh of
Grovertown; sons, Bob (Janice) Diangikis of Argos and Michael Diangikis of Grovertown; nine
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Betty (Bill) Yunger of Crown Point and Helen
Ayers of Plymouth.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. (CST) Tuesday, May 17 and for one hour
prior to services Wednesday at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the chapel. Burial will be follow
at the Grovertown cemetery.

Joann VanDusen
PLYMOUTH -- Joann VanDusen, 66, of Holloway Drive, Plymouth, died Friday, May 13, 2011 at
3:52 a.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center/Plymouth.
Visitation is Friday, May 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth.
Services are Saturday, May 21 at 11 .am. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery, Walkerton.

James O. Thornburg
DONALDSON -- James O. Thornburg, 84, a resident of the Maria Center at Ancilla Domini,
passed away at 8:53 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center –
Plymouth Campus, after enduring a chronic illness for many years.
A lifetime area resident, Jim was born the son of Homer O. and Ethel E. (Helterbrand) Thornburg
March 17, 1927, in Walkerton, Ind. He graduated from Grovertown High School in 1946. Jim
served in the U.S. Army as an occupational troop in Japan following the end of World War II. He
returned home and was introduced to Irene Catherine Sobinski, and June 26, 1949, in Plymouth,
they were joined in marriage that spanned 55 wonderful years together before Irene’s passing
Sept. 22, 2004. In 1986, after 38 years of service, he retired from Bendix Corporation in South
Bend. He was a member of Plymouth Church of the Brethren since 1966, had served on the
board of the Marshall County Mental Health Association, and was involved with the Second Wind
Support Group of South Bend.
Jim was first and foremost a family man as the father of four. He loved being involved with their
many activities including scouting and coaching Little League. He enjoyed part-time farming,
gardening, wood carving and watching birds. As his family continued to grow, he was able to
witness and participate in many of his grandchildren’s activities and shared with them his joy of
mushroom hunting and fishing.
Jim experienced the loss of two children: son John E. Jan. 1, 1979, and daughter Nancy J.
Martin Feb. 25, 2006. Two brothers, Calvin and Eugene Thornburg, and one sister, Evelyn
Eyrich, also preceded him in death.
Jim’s surviving family members include his son, Mark (Julie) Thornburg of Zionsville; daughter
Carol (Mark) Jeffirs of Argos; grandchildren: Stephanie (Matthew Purdeu) Martin of Terre Haute,
Julia (Jeremiah) Hosch of Hobart, Amelia (Todd) Hooper of Goshen, Nathaniel Jeffirs of
Wooster, Ohio, Benjamin, Timothy, Abigail and Alexandra Jeffirs, all of Argos, and Maxwell
Thornburg of Zionsville; great-grandchildren: Danyelle, Sara, Hannah, Caleb, Brittany (Andy),
Linda, Jason, Taylor and Leigh; and great-great-granddaughters Bryley and Hannah Lynn. His
sister, Ruth (Dennis) Zent of Nappanee; sister-in-law Phyllis Thornburg of Plymouth; and
Nancy’s companion, Nicholas Hudak of Valparaiso survive, as well.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at Church of
the Brethren, 1130 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, with one hour of visitation prior, beginning at 10
a.m. Pastor Ruth Yoder will officiate with the presentation of the flag by Commander Julian
Keiser of the Plymouth American Legion Post 27.
Memorial gifts may be given in Jim’s name to the church; the Center for Hospice Care, 112 S.
Center St., Plymouth, IN 46563; or the Cancer Association of Marshall County, 9739 Sunnyside
Drive, Plymouth, IN, 46563.
