James A. Flower
PLYMOUTH -- James A. Flower, 69, of Plymouth, died April 17, 2011 at his residence, of
natural causes.
He is survived by his wife, Vernell; sons, James Adam (Lori) Flower of Argos, and Lloyd
Clemmons (Linda) Flower of Argos; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Arrangements are with Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Jeffro G. Shadrix
WALKERTON -- Jeffro G. Shadrix, 87, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional
Medical Center, Plymouth.
He is survived by daughters, Voncelle (Roger) Burchell of Moulton, Ala. And Rebecca (James)
Sliter of Walkerton; sons, David (Brenda) Shadrix of Valparaiso and Gerald (Rudy) Shadrix of
Knox; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters: Gertrude
Rameriez of Portage, Betty Duke of Alabama, Bobbie Sherer of Portage and Marie Keen of
Georgia; and brothers, B.M. Shadrix of Florida and France Shadrix of Georgia.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. (Central Time) Wednesday, April 20 at Rannells
Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
Burial will follow at the Eagle Creek cemetery, Knox.
Monagene Barbknecht
GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Monagene Barbknecht, age 90, of Village Lane, Greenwood, passed
away at 10 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2011, at Greenwood Village, in Greenwood.
Monagene was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Akron, Ohio, to Martin and Vera (Reinhardt) Anderson.
She was baptized in Grovertown United Brethern Church, in Grovertown, Ind., in 1921. She
graduated from West High School (which was near her home), Plymouth, Ind., in 1938. In 1941
she graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend, Ind. She then served
in the Navy Nurse Corps three years, during WW II at; McIntire Great Lakes; Camp Pendleton,
Oceanside, Calif.; Guadalcanal, the Solomon Islands; and Noumea, New Caledonia.
Monagene and Edward H. Barbknecht, were united in marriage, Feb. 1, 1947, in Hamlet, Ind.
After their marriage, they soon bought a farm, in the Koontz Lake-Grovertown area, and lived
there until Edward’s death, June 19, 1990. Monagene made her home, in Plymouth, until 2000,
when she moved to Greenwood to be near her family. Monagene was a member of the
Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Plymouth, and was very active in her church.
Monagene is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Ken) Raasch of Greenwood; her daughter-in-law,
Debbie Barbknecht; her granddaughters: Susan (Justin) Davis, Anne (Brian) Hammett, and Beth
(Sam) Frank; her great-grandchildren: Vicki Claire Davis, Adelynn Justine Davis, Grace
Catherine Hammett, Isaac James Hammett, Tanith Isabel Frank, and Jack Frank; her sisters,
Joan Griewank of Plymouth and Ardyce Greski of Palatine, Ill.
Monagene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; their son, Rex
Barbknecht (who passed away in December of 2005); her brothers, Ross Anderson and Floyd
Anderson.

Clifford Duane Schlabach
DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Clifford Duane Schlabach, 61, of Dunedin, Fla., passed away April 19, 2011,
in the presence of his loving family following a courageous five year battle with cancer.
He was an avid photographer and his beautiful photography, good humor and free spirit will be
fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Cliff was born to Albert and Kathleen Schlabach Oct. 10, 1949, in Kendallville, Ind. His father
preceded him in death and his mother survives in St. Petersburg, Fla.
He spent his formative years in Columbia City and Culver, Ind., before moving to Albuquerque,
N.M.. He was a resident of Dunedin for 19 years.
Cliff served his country honorably during the Vietnam War in the United States Army from 1969
to 1971.
Also surviving are his wife, Kristine; son, Casey James Schlabach; daughter, Sabrina Lynn
Schlabach, all of Dunedin; brothers, Daryl (Dona) Schlabach of Largo, Fla.; James (Sharon
Donnelly) Schlabach, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sisters, Carolyn (Dennis) Pollock, of Winter Haven,
Fla.; Gerry (Randy) Burkett of Culver; Cathy (Bill) Keller of Monterey, Ind.; and many nieces and
nephews.
There will be no visitation or services. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made in Cliff’s name to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue,
Auburndale, FL, 33823.
The family is grateful to the Good Shepherd Hospice for their kindness during his illness.
Frank Elliott Kleinke
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Frank Elliott Kleinke, 86, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully in his
sleep at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz., of natural causes.
He was born July 20, 1924 to Thomas and Esther Kleinke, in Chicago, Ill.
He was married
for 64 years to Laura June Berger Kleinke, who passed away in 2009. He was
also preceded in death by his brother, Walter Kleinke, of Girard, Kan.
Frank was a prominent, elected official in Plymouth, Ind., where he was known for his outgoing
manner, sense of humor, and devotion to his family and community. He was a Christian, active
in the Republican Party, a former member of the Indiana Society of Professional Land
Surveyors, and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for more than 50 years.
He and Laura lived in Avon Park, Fla., for several years after retirement, where they loved to
golf, and each celebrated a coveted hole-in-one.
Frank was a licensed land surveyor. He was originally elected surveyor of Marshall County in
1956, and was re-elected six more times to serve as surveyor for a total of 28 years. Prior to
election, he served the county as Deputy Surveyor for five years. In 1984 he was elected to the
Marshall County Council for two, four-year terms.
Frank was a veteran of the Second World War, where he spent 22 months in Europe as a
paratrooper. He was twice wounded in action and received the Purple Heart with a cluster.
He was a graduate of Tyner High School and attended Indiana University and Pittsburgh
Technical Institute.
Frank is survived by his children, Ken Kleinke and his wife, Cheryl, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Greg
Kleinke and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Georgetown, Ind., Ann Sherrick of Chandler, Ariz., and Sue
Meyne and her husband, Rob, of Las Vegas, Nev.
He had six grandchildren: Todd Kleinke and wife Lisa of Carmel, Krista Serdar, of Anthem, Ariz.,
Sandy Kleinke Jones and husband Ron, and Alex Kleinke of Georgetown, Ind.; and Robert
Meyne and Laura Meyne, of Las Vegas, Nev.
He also had four great-grandchildren: Max Kleinke and Henry Kleinke, of Carmel; and Jason
Serdar and Luke Serdar, of Anthem.
Services are scheduled for Monday, April 25, at 11 a.m., in Scottsdale, at the Messinger
Mortuary (480-502-3378).
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 6320 W.

Burial will be alongside his wife, Laura, in the Veteran’s cemetery in Scottsdale.
Ivan Jay Read
PLYMOUTH -- Lifetime Plymouth resident and businessman, Ivan Jay Read, 79, passed away
after a lifelong battle with chronic pulmonary disease at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at
the Leesburg home of his daughter Beth in the company and care of his family.
The son of Ivan and Daisy M. (Stuber) Read, Jay was born March 23, 1932 at the family’s home
on the Plymouth-Goshen Trail.
Jay graduated from Lincoln High in 1951. His illness prevented him from graduating the previous
year so both classes included him in reunions.
July 13, 1952 in the old E.U.B. Church in Plymouth he married
Patricia A. Houin and they would
become parents to three daughters.
He was a partner in the family rendering business; Plymouth Fertilizer Company Inc. In later
years he and the family were involved in grain and fish farming.
Jay was a founding member of the Sunrise Chapel and has remained active having served on its
board. He also served on the board of the Plymouth School Corporation.
Jay was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed photography, hunting, and sailing on Lake Michigan.
Surviving is his daughter, Paula A. (Robert) Hoy of Temperance, Mich. And their children:
Nathan Hoy, Christopher Hoy, Victoria (Ryan) Dougherty; daughter, Beth M. (Daniel) Cashen of
Leesburg and their children: Heather (Kristof) Cortebeeck, Joel (Amanda) Cashen, Aaron
(Maggie) Cashen, Dr. Clayton (Erin) Cashen and Patrick Cashen; and daughter, Karen L.
Gangloff of Inwood and children: Sgt. Clinton (Zhen) Gangloff, Katie (Alex) Bare, Daisy Gangloff
and Wesley Wallace; with sixteen great-grandchildren completing the family.
Two sisters, Wilma Ambler of Plymouth and Ellen (Rev. Bruce) Snyder of Toledo, Ohio; and two
brothers, Lester (Sue) Read and James (Barbara) Read, all of Plymouth, also survive; as well as
numerous nieces; a nephew; and one brother-in-law, Wendell Nelson.
Also surviving is his former spouse, Patricia (Richard) Pentelow of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruth Flosenzier and Treva Nelson.
Calling will be held Saturday, April 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth.
Calling will continue after 10 a.m. Monday, April 25 in the Sunrise Chapel, 11802 Lincoln
Highway, Plymouth, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark Allen
officiating.
Burial will follow immediately in the New Oakhill cemetery next to his parents.
Preferred memorial contributions are to the church.

Robert C. 'Bobby' Wagoner
HANNA -- Robert C. 'Bobby' Wagoner, 56, formerly of Westville, died Wednesday, April 20,
2011 in Porter Health, Valparaiso Hospital.
He is survived by his daughters, Christina Wagoner and Kimberly Wagoner, both of Buchanan,
Mich.; a son, Michael Wagoner of Buchanan; and sisters, Cathy Webb of Kingsford Heights and
Sherry Wagoner of Grand Rapids, Mich.
Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Central Time) Monday, April 25 at the Rannells
Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
Burial will follow at the Hanna cemetery.

PLYMOUTH -- Edna M. McDade, 91, of Plymouth, formerly Merrillville, died Thursday, April 21,
2011.
She is survived by her children: Lucricia Price of Hobart, Barbara (Ronald) Prusinski of
Plymouth, Billy Joe (Frances) McDade of Hot Springs, S.D., Tommy McDade of Indio, Calif., and
Mark (Sandy) McDade of Chesterton; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren;
and a sister, Lillian Walls of Colon, Mich.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. (Central Time) Monday, April 25 at Geisen Funeral
Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 26 at the funeral home. Burial will
follow at Hebron cemetery, Hebron.
Vera L. Chanley
LOGANSPORT -- Vera L. Chanley, 73, Logansport, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2011 at
her residence.
She is survived by her husband William 'Bill' Chanley; sons: Jerry (Judy) Wilson of Monterey,
Tenn., Rick (Dianne) Wilson of Lacona, N.Y., and Randy (Diana) Smith of Goodlettsville, Tenn.;
daughters, Cynthia (Larry) Platz of Osceola, and April (Daryl) Ewald of Goshen; stepson, Joe
(Nancy) Chanley of Logansport; stepdaughters, Patty (Ron) Raderstorf and Lisa Novak, all of
Logansport; brothers, Floyd (Della) Eiler, MS, Earl Eiler of Kokomo, and Harley (Lowene) Eiler of
Elwood; sister, Elnora (John) Shidler of Goshen; eight grandchildren; eight step grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 26 at Kroeger Funeral Home and one
hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, April 27 at Hickory Grove Church. Burial will take place at Davis cemetery.
