Tommy A. McEndarfer
KOONTZ LAKE -- Tommy A, McEndarfer, 50, died Monday, March 7, 2011, in Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
He is survived by his wife, Estella; sons, Thomas and Lucas McEndarfer; mother, JoAnn
McEndarfer of Koontz Lake; father, Thomas McEndarfer of Hamlet; sister, Sandy Allen of
Florida; and brother, Mark McEndarfer of Koontz Lake.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. CST Friday, March 11 and one hour prior to services
Saturday at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Funeral services will take place at 11
a.m. Saturday, March 12 at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Carol Suzanne "Sue" Shanafelt
MISHAWAKA -- Carol Suzanne "Sue" Shanafelt, 65, residing in Mishawaka, passed away at 6
p.m. Monday, March 7, in the Emergency Room at St. Vincent Heart Center, Indianapolis.
She was born July 1, 1945 in South Bend, a daughter of Elmer L. and Ernestine M. (Stegmann)
Shanafelt, and has lived in this area all of her life. She graduated from John Adams High School
class of 1963.
Sue retired from Indiana Bell Telephone as an Engineer following 28 years of employment. She
was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Plymouth, and was active with several Women's
Bowling Leagues in South Bend. She was inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame, and served as
President of WBA. She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers.
Sue is survived by three sisters, Barbara (Raymond) Cole of Tyner, Trudie (Lavern) Horvarter of
LaPaz, and Paula (Douglas) Johns of Newport, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert L. Shanafelt, and Randall J.
Shanafelt.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel,
2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. The Rev. Steven J. Resner, pastor of Calvary Lutheran
Church will officiate.
Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, where
she will be laid to rest with her mother.
The family will receive friends from 4: to 8 p.m. Friday at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park
Chapel.
Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Sue Shanafelt may be offered to Calvary Lutheran
Church, 1314 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
As a remembrance to Sue, she would also like her friends to consider organ donation, as she
was a two-time recipient.
Lynden Eugene Swanson
ROCHESTER -- Lynden Eugene Swanson, 54, of Rochester, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at
his residence.
He is survived by his fianceé Mary Chapman; daughter, Wendy (David) Grover of Terre Haute;
sons: Lynden Swanson III (Amber Thomas) of Claypool, Danny Swanson of Rochester, and
Kenneth (Brandy) Swanson of Mentone; mother: Barbara Swanson; sisters, Barbara (Edwin)
Reeves of North Webster, and Judy (Loren) Lowe of Talma; 13 grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10 and one hour prior to services
Friday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11 at the funeral home. Burial will follow
in Athens cemetery.
Kenneth Paul Baumgartner
PLYMOUTH – Kenneth Paul Baumgartner, 79, a Lawrence Lake resident since 2001, died of
natural causes at his home Tuesday morning, March 8, 2011. Ken was formerly of Tinley Park, Ill.
He was born the son of Arthur Phillip and Elizabeth Charlotte (Mueller) Baumgartner in
Hammond, Ind. March 29, 1931. There he received his education, graduating from Thornton
Township High School in 1949.
In 1951 he joined the Marine Corp and served as a Corporal until 1953.
He married
the former Barbara Jean Wetmore May 28, 1955 in St. John’s Lutheran Church. She
preceded him in death March 31, 2001.
Ken and his wife were the owners/operators of Baumgartner Appliance Service in Tinley Park for
nearly 30 years. Ken also served on the Federal Fire Department – Heinz V.A. Hospital, retiring
in 1985.
Ken was extremely proud of his family and was a man who appreciated order and detail, as
reflected even in the care of his home and lake property.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Donaldson, and was a longtime member
of the American Legion Post #615, Tinley Park, and Plymouth Post #27, and a former member
of Plymouth Moose Lodge. Ken enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, and bowling along with being a
true fan of Chicago sports -- just not the Cubs.
Surviving are three sons and their families: David A. and Debra Baumgartner of Brookfield, Ill.,
Michael K. and Deborah Baumgartner of Plymouth, and Thomas Allen and Mimi Baumgartner of
Mundelein, Ill. Five grandchildren include: Nicholas Baumgartner, Rebecca (Chris) Padgett,
Amanda Baumgartner, Mitchell Baumgartner and Kristina Krupa. Three great grandchildren:
Jeret, Brooklyn and Ashlyn also survive.
Two brothers, Richard (Valarie) Baumgartner of Tinley Park and Donald (Barbara) Baumgartner
of DesMoines, Wash. survive with several nieces and nephews.
Proceeding in death were his parents; spouse; sister, Lois Knisley; and brother, Jack Baumgartner.

Friday March 11, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. EDT.
Visitation will continue at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 4231 W. 183rd Street in Country Club
Hills, Illinois Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m. until noon CDT.
Services will immediately follow in the church at noon with the Rev. Peter Dorn presiding.
Burial will immediately follow in the St. John’s Church cemetery.

Helen Virginia Buss
NAPPANEE -- Helen Virginia Buss, 95, of Nappanee, died at 4:22 p.m., Tuesday, March 8,
2011 at Elkhart General Hospital.
She is survived by a son, Roger (Mary) Buss, Walkerton, grandson, Robert R. Phillip (Renee)
Buss, Kendallville, and great grandson, Aidan Buss, Kendallville. She was preceded in death by
a sister, Dorothy Chase and brothers, Roy, Paul, and Milburn Roelke.
Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home,
Nappanee.
An Eastern Star Memorial Service will take place at 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 13, at the funeral home. Rev. Janet McFallBrown
will officiate and burial will be in South Union cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Nappanee United Methodist Church.
Raymond Lee Smith
KINGSFORD HEIGHTS -- Raymond Lee Smith, 75, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert (Mary Jo) Smith, Jerry (Marilyn Sue) Smith, and Alvin
(Lauraine) Smith; a sister, Norita (Paul) Taylor; and a daughter, Rebecca Arthur.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. (CT) Wednesday, March 16, at Tracy United Methodist
Church.
A candlelight service will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, 408 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, is assisting the family with
arrangements.
E. Lucille 'Lou' Warnacut
PLYMOUTH – E. Lucille 'Lou' Warnacut, 85, of 7928 9B Road, Plymouth, passed away
Tuesday at 10:40 p.m. of natural causes in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center – Plymouth.
Lou was a lifetime Marshall County resident.
She was born in Argos, Indiana on July 23, 1925, the daughter of Eugene and Laberta (Gunkle)
Meredith. She graduated from the Argos High School with the Class of 1943.
Lou became the bride of David I. Warnacut on March 8, 1945 in El Centro, Calif. While he was
on leave serving in the Marine Corp.
They became the greatest of parents to their four children; two daughters and two sons, and
their children, they are: Linda M. (Steve) Trago of Plymouth and children; Jeffrey Helsel, Robert
Helsel and Anthony Schuh.Laura L. Warnacut of Plymouth, D. Joe (Joyce) Warnacut of
Townsend, Wis. And children; David and Joseph Warnacut. G. Jay (Lana) Warnacut of Warsaw
and son Brian Stalder. Seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson complete Lou’s
immediate family. A sister-in-law; Carol Meredith of Plymouth survives with several nieces and
nephews.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, a grandson; Randy Helsel, brothers;
Gordon, Richard and Glen Meredith and sisters Eleanora Ferris, Guinivere Puppe and Jane
Miller.
Lou was devoted to her family. She shared a profound sense of humor, a love of cards and
games and engendered competitiveness in her family. She was a regular member of the
Monday Duplicate Bridge group and bingo at the Moose. She enjoyed word games, knitting and
visits to 'the boat'.
A member of the United Pentecostal Church in Bourbon, Lou was a former member of the VFW
Auxiliary and had worked for Menser Industries and Bomarko.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, March 12, 2011 in the United
Pentecostal Church, 201 N. Bourbon St. Bourbon.
Services will follow at noon in the church. The Revs. Mark Cotrill and Anthony Schuh will
officiate. A fellowship luncheon will also follow in the church hall.
Burial will be in the New Oakhill cemetery.

Mary L. Heath
WARSAW -- Mary L. Heath, 69, of Warsaw, died at 10 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at
Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
She was born May 5, 1941 in Plymouth, to Junior and Madalene (Bules) Cartwright. She married
Delbert James Heath Dec. 19, 1962 in Warsaw, and was a lifetime resident of the Kosciusko
and Marshall County areas. She was a sewer for Kinder Mfg. for more than 20 years, retiring in
2004. She was a member of the Harvest Community Church, Pierceton.
Mary is survived by her son, Robert (Michele) Heath of Etna Green; daughter, Madalene (Kevin)
Blanton of Etna Green; stepsons, John (Victoria) Heath of St. Joe, Mo., and Merle Heath of
Wisconsin; stepdaughter, Regina (Butch) Alexander of Plymouth; sister, Bonnie Hively of
Warsaw; four grandchildren: James Blanton, Cassandra Heath, Matthew Heath and Michael
Blanton, all of Etna Green; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Peyton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Junior and Madalene Cartwright; and husband,
Delbert (Nov. 11, 2002).
Visitation took place from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, March 14, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial followed at Etna Green cemetery, Etna Green.

Frances Eve (Pettis) Livinghouse
PLYMOUTH -- Frances Eve (Pettis) Livinghouse, 79, of Webster Avenue, Plymouth, passed
away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, with her
family by her side.
Frances was born Feb. 16, 1932, to Jess and Eve (Long) Pettis, in Culver, Ind. She grew up in
Culver and graduated from Culver High School. Feb. 13, 1951, she married
Dale Livinghouse, in
Burr Oak, Ind. They moved to Plymouth, where she spent the rest of her life.
Frances worked at Felke Florist, Pizza King, and the license bureau (fondly sharing that she was
probably the only person who worked in a license bureau, that didn’t drive). She was a practicing
Christian Scientist and was a member of the Mother Church in Boston, Mass. Frances was an
avid walker, and many people in the Plymouth community knew her from seeing her on her daily
walks. She had a great love for all children, and enjoyed watching many of them play at the park
across the street from her home. She knew all of the children in her neighborhood and dearly
loved them. She was an active member within her community for many years. Frances was kind
to everyone she met. She was a Democratic Party activist all of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Livinghouse; their children, Michelle Livinghouse (and
Frank Filson) of Plymouth and David Livinghouse (and Kris) of Indianapolis, Ind.; two
grandchildren, Shiloh Carothers Fonseca of Plymouth and Jess Livinghouse a student at Loyola
University, in Chicago, Ill.; her great-grandson, Timothy Fonseca of Plymouth; her sister, Betsy
Pettis Kridner (Richard) of Warsaw, Ind.; her niece, Thania Harris of Warsaw; and her nephew,
Phillip Colgrove of Mattoon, Ill.
