Pauline C. Funk, 92, of Ossian, a native of Stringtown, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center in Bluffton.
"Mom was always there for her family." She had worked for Wolf & Dessauer and Sears, Roebuck & Co. as salesperson and was a member of Hope Missionary Church in Bluffton. Surviving are a daughter, Juanita J. Boyd of Ossian; a son, Rodger H. of Angola; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, Howard, preceded her in death. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road, with calling one hour before services and also from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorials are to Hope Missionary Church, Fairview Missionary Church in Angola or Family Hospice of Berne.

Kimmell - 1941-2002
John W. Turner, 60, of Kimmell, a self-employed contractor, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Whitley Memorial Hospital in Columbia City.
The Tell City native was a member of Ligonier United Methodist Church, West Noble American Legion Post 243, Wolf Lake VFW Post 4717, Huntington Loyal Order of Moose and Ligonier Elks Lodge 451. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Charlene; sons Chris of Columbia City, Marty Leamon of West Bend, Wis., Monty Leamon of Winona Lake and Sean Black of Carmel; a daughter, Tina Turner of Columbia City; a brother, Jerry of North Ridgeville, Ohio; a sister, Brenda Whitaker of Pierceton; and 12 grandchildren. A brother preceded him in death. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Ligonier United Methodist Church, Ligonier, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial with military graveside services will be at Oak Park cemetery, Ligonier. Memorials are to the church.

Fremont - 1913-2002
Raymond H. Tubbs, 88, of Fremont, a World War II Navy veteran, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at The Laurels of Coldwater in Coldwater, Mich.
The Fremont native was retired from Allied Products in Hillsdale, Mich., as foreman and was also a self-employed cabinetmaker. He was a member of Jamestown Church and founding member of Fremont Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude P.; brothers Robert of Eaton Rapids, Mich., Herman of Coldwater, Mich., and Rolland of Hillsdale, Mich.; sisters Maryline Blohm of Fremont and Geraldine Maier of Waunakee, Wis.; and four stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by stepchildren Franklin Beebe and Ann McAuley and two sisters. Memorial services will be held at a later date. There is no calling. Memorials are to American Heart Association or Fremont Fire Department.

Grace E. Mitch, 76, of Convoy, Ohio, a member of First Friends Church in Van Wert, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at home.
The Monroeville, Ind., native retired in 1987 from Van Wert Nursing Home as nurses aide. Surviving are daughters Debbie Schumm of Southern Pines, N.C., Patti Ashbaugh of Convoy and Julie Frandsen of Van Wert; a sister, Esther Mitch of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brothers Lloyd and Keith Guenin, both of Hoagland, Herman Guenin of Waynedale, Frank and Harvey Guenin, both of Monroeville, and Roy Guenin of Cordova, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several foster great-grandchildren. Her husband, Ellsworth, preceded her in death. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Indiana time) at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Ind., with calling from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday. James J. Cain, 90, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of Fort Wayne died Thursday, April 11, 2002.
The Chicago native was a retired firefighter, member of Southside Christian Church and Old Rooster Club. He moved to Florida in 1968. Surviving are a daughter, Sondra Wilson of Sarasota; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.; and one great-great-grandchild. The Noble County native retired in 1980 from Dana Corp. in Churubusco and was also a farmer. Surviving are sons Lewis and David, both of Kimmell; daughters Janet Rawles of Albion, Nancy Sprunger of Columbia City and Caroline Resler of Wolf Lake; 15 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty A., three brothers and a sister. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Brazzell Funeral Home, Albion, with calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Alta M. Franklin, 85, of Payne, Ohio, a member of Paulding County Genealogy & First Families, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Hawthorn Court in Paulding.
"She was a poet lauriet known as Agusta Wind." The Antwerp native retired in 1978 from General Electric Co. in Fort Wayne after 33 years of service. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star Hesperian Chapter, Antwerp VFW Post 5087 Auxiliary, and GE Elex and Quarter Century clubs. She was a volunteer for Dallas Lamb Foundation and Paulding Area Visiting Nurses. Surviving are sons James E. III and Timothy, both of Payne; a daughter, Linda Schmidt of Payne; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Her husband, James E. II, preceded her in death. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Payne. Calling is after 4 p.m. Sunday with an 8 p.m. Eastern Star service at Slade Funeral Home, Payne.
