Christian V. Salomon, 80, of Fort Wayne, who donated Salomon Farm to the city's Parks and Recreation Department in 1999, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Canterbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The Fort Wayne native was president of Industrial Photocopy Inc. for 49 years and a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church. In 1990, he received a rural restoration award from ARCH. Surviving is a daughter, Lynne A. Salomon of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine L. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity English Lutheran Church, Krauss Chapel, 405 W. Wayne St., with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday and also from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St. Burial will be at Lindenwood cemetery. Memorials are to the church.

Marguerite Meyer, 90, of Fort Wayne, a member of Shoaff Park Baptist Church, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in Warsaw.
The Fort Wayne native was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter, Lois Lesh of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, Ralph, preceded her in death. Mary Lee Harris, 83, of Fort Wayne, a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Regency Nursing Home. The Epps, Ala., native was a homemaker. Surviving are cousins Fred Jackson, Mattie Fields and Dorothy Mitchell, all of Fort Wayne, and Sallie M. Dublin and Dealie M. Yarbough, both of Chicago. Her husband, George, preceded her in death. Rachel M. Kiracofe, 86, of Fort Wayne, a former schoolteacher, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Parkview Hospital.
The Scottville, Mich., native had taught in Grovertown and Plymouth for seven years. She was a member of Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren. Surviving are sons Rolland of Westminster, Md., Dr. Norman of Kalamazoo, Mich., and David of New Haven; daughters Phyllis Greer of Edgewater, Fla., Barbara Kiracofe of San Diego and Karen Kiracofe of New Haven; a brother, Addison Miller of Sebring, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Reinoehl of Bath, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer N., and a brother. Memorial services are 3 p.m. Monday at Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren, 2810 Beacon St., with calling two hours before services and a reception following services. Burial will be at Riverview cemetery, Custer, Mich. Memorials are to Global Food Crisis Fund C/O Church of the Brethren.

Robert Lee Bright Sr., 69, of Fort Wayne, a retired foreman, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Parkview Hospital.
"Daddy enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and cooking. He was always ready and willing to help family, friends and others." The Forrest City, Ark., native retired in 1995 from Roussel Construction Co. after 15 years of service. He was a member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent. Surviving are daughters Vanessa Bright-Collins, Darcel, Trina and Cynthia Bright, Elise Jackson and Nea Laster, all of Fort Wayne; a stepdaughter, Patricia West of Fort Wayne; sons Robert L. Jr. of Clarksville, Tenn., and Lonnie, Lewis and Zachariah, all of Fort Wayne; stepsons Marquel Bright and Michael and Raymond West, all of Fort Wayne; sisters Brooksnell Haywood and Charlotte M. Stewart, both of Fort Wayne; brothers Elkano, Willie C., Charles, Otha and Larry, all of Fort Wayne; 57 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Rodney Laster, and a brother preceded him in death. Services are noon Tuesday at Canaan Baptist Church, 827 E. Fairfax Ave., with calling from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be at Highland Park cemetery.

William "Steve" Bireley, 56, of Fort Wayne died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in Fort Wayne.
The Fort Wayne native had worked for Magnavox Co. for 25 years and recently for Christian Fellowship Church on Carroll Road, where he was also a member. Surviving are his wife, Jean; sons William S. II of Lafayette and Ryan C. of Fort Wayne; daughters Michelle L. Kibiger and Kelly Symongkhon, both of Fort Wayne; his mother, Kate Bireley of Fort Wayne; a brother, Larry of Fort Wayne; sisters Linda Haupt and Becky Heath, both of Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church, 3301 E. Coliseum Blvd. Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road. Gerald J. Freiburger, 67, of Fort Wayne, a Fort Wayne native, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Byron Health Care Center. "Gerald was happy, polite and cheerful." Surviving are aunts Rose Freiburger and Emily Thieme, both of Fort Wayne, and Julia Turner of Springfield, Va.; an uncle, Ralph Freiburger of Fort Wayne; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Irene, and a brother, Richard. Services were today at Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel, 2114 S. Earl F. Engelbrecht, 83, of Fort Wayne, retired former owner of Advertising Art, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Englewood Health Care Center. The Fort Wayne native was retired from the U.S. Army Reserves after 20 years of service, was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are a sister, LaVern Jordan of Fort Wayne; a niece, Michelle Jordan of Fort Wayne; and family friend/caregiver Sara Hord of Fort Wayne.
