Judith A. Marsh, 59, of Auburn, chairman of the board of Garrett Industries from 1977 to 1987, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
The Toledo, Ohio, native was a homemaker and and past chairman of Tri Kappa Antique Show. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Greenhurst Ladies Association, Bridgewater Golf Club and a member/past president of Habanera Club. Surviving are her husband, Doug; a son, Jeffrey of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Cindy Waldron of Auburn; and grandchildren Nicholas Waldron and Grant Marsh. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Auburn. Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo. Burial will be at Woodlawn cemetery, Auburn. Frances N. Stump, 72, of Churubusco, a member of VFW Auxiliary 3846, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
"She loved shuffleboard, board games, cards and crocheting." The Rexville, Ky., native was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca Knight of Huntertown; a son, Randy of New Haven, Conn.; sisters Inez Blake of Kendallville, Betty Winebrenner of Albion and Brenda Hughes of Churubusco; brothers Lenville Gregory of Albion and Norman Gregory of Churubusco; and two grandchildren. Her husband, Milo E., preceded her in death. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Orr Funeral Home, Churubusco, with calling from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Helen G. Carpenter, 92, of Butler, DeKalb County Jail matron from 1947 to 1959, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Heritage Park Nursing Center in Fort Wayne.
The Butler native was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star Forest Chapter 44 and Hamilton Pythian Sisters. Surviving are nephews Dennis Kepler of Auburn and Donner Kepler of Chicago; a niece, Victoria Burdon of Fort Wayne; and several great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E., and a sister, Elizabeth Trumbull. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at H.E. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, Butler, with calling from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday. She was a member of Taylor, Mich., American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Post 4422. Surviving are her husband, James A.; daughters Beverly J. Chamberlin of Yuma, Ariz., Carol J. Kennedy of Newport, Mich., Louann Papineau of Romulus, Mich., and Debra A. McCauley of Edgerton; sons James A. of Findlay and David L. of Edgerton; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The Paulding County native was a self-employed brick mason. Surviving are a brother, George of Paulding; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers John, Joseph, Fred, Thomas and William, and a sister, Elizabeth Kinzel. The Magoffin County, Ky., native was a homemaker and farmer. Surviving are a son, Dayton of Norton, Ohio; a daughter, Elsie Howard of Silver Lake; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, a son, a brother and five sisters. Eileen J. Simons, 86, of Angola and formerly of Ashley and Fairfield Center, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.
The Allen County native was a member of Fairfield Homemakers Friendship Club. Surviving are sons Tom of Pleasant Lake and James of Angola; a half brother, Wayne Orwig of Columbus, Ohio; half sisters Eleanor Conrad and Ruth Richter, both of Ashley, and Troas Edwards of Sun River, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, sons Lloyd C. and Lynn E., a sister and a half brother. Calling is 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home, Hudson. Donald D. Ray, 61, of Decatur, owner of Don Ray Drive-A-Way Co. since 1974, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
The Adams County native was also retired from International Harvester Co., an area farmer and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of American Legion Post 43, Loyal Order of Moose 1311, Masonic Lodge 571 and First Assembly of God, Mizpah Shrine and Scottish Rite Valley, all of Fort Wayne. He served as the great sachem of Improved Order of Redmen and a member of Pocotaligo Tribe 203 of the Redmen. Surviving are his wife, Louise; a daughter, Chastity L. Binegar of Decatur; a sister, Jean A. Shoaf of Decatur; a stepsister, Myra Wigger of Decatur; a brother, Ronald of Berne; a half brother, Col. Steve A. of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and stepbrothers Ted Wenning of Decatur, Todd Wenning of St. Mary's, Ohio, Andy Wenning of Tocsin and Tim Wenning of Ohio. The Benton County native was a Carroll County area plan commissioner, First Baptist Church trustee, Sunday school teacher for Mount Gilboa Church and Carroll County Co-op board member. He was a member of Lockport Church, Farm Bureau and 4-H leader in Carroll and Benton counties. Surviving are sons Dean A. of Columbia City and Ron W. of Idaville; a brother, Paul of Battleground; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel M., and five brothers. Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi, with calling from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Thompson of Corpus Christi, Texas, Alice Hall of Georgetown, Ky., Zeda Hoover and Myrie Trueblood, both of Kendallville, and Lucretta Duncan of Hueysville, Ky.; and two grandchildren. Harry H. Bostater, 84, of Edgerton, Ohio, and formerly of Bryan, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at home. The Pulaski native was a retired carpenter, had worked for Votaw Construction in Pioneer and in farming for Carlin Farms and Pappas Farms. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and member of Pioneer American Legion. Surviving are sons Michael and Stan, both of Edgerton; daughters Marie Douglas of Spicewood, Texas, Olga Santos of Bryan, Brenda Wheeler of Montpelier, Sheila Bostater of Centerburg and Sharon Blevins of Sherwood; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive L., a brother and two sisters. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Krill Funeral Service, Edgerton, with calling from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial with military graveside services will be at Shiffler cemetery, Bryan. Memorials are to the donor's choice.
