Ellen L. Eichhorn, 82, of North Webster, 1974 state president of Indiana Extension Homemakers, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
The Decatur native retired in 1982 from Eichhorn Insurance Center as secretary after 28 years of service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bluffton, associate member of Englewood First United Methodist Church in Englewood, Fla., and Wells County Mental Health Organization. Surviving are her husband, Elco; a daughter, Diane Holloway of Ossian; a son, Dennis of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Richard Mailand of Decatur; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services are 10 a.m. Aug. 14 at First United Methodist Church, Bluffton. There is no calling.

Angola - 1913-2002
Marcelle Beck, 89, of Angola, a past matron of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 78, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Lakeland Nursing Center.
The Continental, Ohio, native was a homemaker and had worked at Nichols Music Store and for a dress shop. She was a member of Angola United Methodist Church and had been the captain of the Salem Center girls basketball team that was a state champion. Surviving are a son, Fred of Angola; a daughter, Nancy Henry of Olivet, Mich.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn C., a brother and three sisters. Services will be held at a later date. Memorials are to Alzheimer's Association.

Dona Jean Kinsey, 73, of Warsaw, a bookkeeper for 39 years, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at home.
The New Paris native had worked for Times-Union and was a member of Warsaw Community Church. Surviving are daughters Susan Langohr of Columbia City and Pam Tackitt of South Whitley; a son, Don of Warsaw; adopted family Wendy Berning of Columbia City and Tamara Roller of Warsaw; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, and a son, Dennis. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Ethel M. Fields, 82, of Hicksville, Ohio, a 1937 graduate of Paulding High School, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home.
The Paulding native was a lifelong homemaker and member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Surviving are daughters Beth Marihugh and Wanda Rohrs, both of Hicksville, Susan Cope of Angola, Ind., and Marsha Williams of Toccoa Falls, Ga.; a son, Michael of Hicksville; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall J., a sister and two brothers. The Yoder native retired in 1993 from Wabash Magnetics after 30 years of service and attended Union Church in Huntington County. Surviving are her husband, Marvin; daughters Pamela Wolfe of Andrews and Penny Collins of Wabash; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The Sunbury, Pa., native retired in 1999 as a transportation manager. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Angola, Ind., and had held offices with Delta-Nu-Alpha Traffic Clubs. Surviving are his wife, Barbara; a son, Charles L. Jr. of Cary, N.C.; daughters Michele Givens of Mehoopany, Pa., and Kristine Solarczyk of Reston, Va.; his father, John E. of Northumberland, Pa.; a brother; four sisters; and nine grandchildren. The Kendallville native was a member of Apostolic Faith Church of God in our Lord Jesus Christ. Surviving are her parents, John and Brenda Fair of Ligonier; brothers Adam Ritchie and Jonathan Noble both at home; and her grandparents Lydia Hall of Topmost, Ky., J.B. and Bett Noble of Indianapolis and Mauda and Fred Frazier of Hindman, Ky. The Marion, Ind., native was also retired from Fort Wayne Tool and Die as a tool and die maker and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a graduate of Western Evangelical Seminary and formerly of Anderson and Ligonier, Ind. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; daughters Sarah Harriman of Marion, Ind., Mary Norling of Ligonier, Ind., and Julia Hendricksen of Wall, N.J.; sons Rev. Daniel of Gillette, Wyo., and Rev. Jonathon of Bartlesville, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leona, and a brother. Dr. Rodney W. Springer, DDS, 62, of Coldwater, Mich., and formerly of Angola, Ind., died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
The Fort Wayne native retired in 1992 from his dental practice in Angola, Ind. He was a member of Angola Elks Club and Rotary Club where he had served as past president. He had attended South Side High School in Fort Wayne, and was a graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry and an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter. Surviving are his wife, Dr. Elaine; a son, Rod W. Jr. of Lake James, Ind.; a daughter, Julie Murphy of Melbourne, Fla.; his mother, Lillian Springer of Syracuse, N.Y.; a sister, Susan Roberts of Syracuse, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials are to Rotary Scholarship Fund.

Ruth A. Ewing, 97, of Warren, a lifetime member of Order of Eastern Star, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at United Methodist Memorial Home.
The Seattle native retired in 1967 and taught school in Hammond and rural schools in South Dakota before moving to Hammond in 1937. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hammond, its Ad Council, taught Sunday school and served as chairman of missions. She was also district officer for Women's Society of Christian Service, member of C.E. Chapter P.E.O. of Munster and National Retired Teachers Association. She was also a charter member of Lake County American Association of University Women. Surviving are her friends, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cada of Hammond. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Memorial Home Chapel, Warren, with calling one hour before services.
