Mildred E. Hansen, 86, of Winona Lake, formerly of Riverside, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw.

The Brooklyn, N.Y., native was a homemaker and a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church. Surviving are daughters Eleanor R. Davis of Columbia, S.C. and Janice M. Schope of Warsaw; a son, Raymond H. of Red Wing, Minn.; brothers Arthur Nilsen of Massapequa, Long Island, N.Y., and Ralph Nilsen of Richmond, Texas; sisters Ingrid Hansen of Orlando, Fla., and Ruth Norton of Bakersfield, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond H. Hansen, and two brothers. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Warsaw, with calling from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at St. Anne's Columbarium in Warsaw. Memorials are to the church, Heifer Project International or Grace Village Retirement Community.

Lorene Sheckles
Fremont - 1939-2002

Lorene Sheckles, 63, of Fremont, formerly of Fort Wayne, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola.

"She enjoyed cooking, keeping house and sitting on her front porch." She was a homemaker and formerly the owner/manager of 441 Bait & Tackle in Fremont. Surviving are her husband, Harold; daughters Donna Denis and Terrie Huffstetler, both of Fremont; sons Scott and Mike, both of Fremont; a brother, Billie Ray Hatfield of Syracuse; and nine grandchildren. A sister and a brother preceded her in death. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, with calling 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Memorials are to the ALS Association.

South Whitley -1923-2002

Hilda C. Bruner, 79, of South Whitley, formerly of Fort Wayne, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at home.

The Fort Wayne native retired in 1983 as a nurse's aide at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City. She also worked at Roanoke Nursing Home. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Columbia City. Surviving are sons James W. of Liberty Mills, Melvin L. of Columbia City and Robert of Rienzi, Miss.; daughters Doris Ivy of South Whitley and Delores Gaylord of Warsaw; a brother, Oscar J. Witte of Ossian; a sister, Ida Yahne of Columbia City; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Her husband, Walter M., and a son, Albert, preceded her in death. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Columbia City, with calling after 9:30 a.m. Calling is also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne. Memorials are to the church.

Deborah Lynn Dubach
Decatur, Ala. -1964-2002

Deborah Lynn Dubach, 38, of Decatur, Ala., former resident of Adams County, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at her residence.

The Logan, Ohio, native was an artist, homemaker and a member of First Bible Church in Decatur. She was a member of Decatur Assembly, Decatur Cotillion Club and Junior League of Morgan County. She was a board member of the Morgan County American Cancer Society. Surviving are her husband, Scott D.; daughters Allison J. and Rebecca Grace, both of Decatur, Ala.; her parents, Dennis and Judith Bluhm of Decatur Ind.; sisters Kathy Skekloff of Fort Wayne and Betsy Chamberlin of Decatur, Ind.; a brother, Steven Blum of Fort Wayne; and a grandmother, Alta Bluhm of Logan, Ohio. Services and calling were held at First Bible Church, Decatur, Ala. Burial and graveside services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at West Lawn cemetery at Geneva, Ind. Memorials are to the church missions project.

Warsaw - 1925-2002

Barbara M. Fawley, 77, of Warsaw, a member of First Christian Church, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw.

The Dowagiac, Mich., native was the former office manager for Heart Plaza Hotel. Surviving are sons James Osburn of Winthrope, Minn., and Fred Osburn of Warsaw; a daughter, Cindy Hackworth of Warsaw; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Earl, and a daughter preceded her in death. Calling is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial and graveside service is 2 p.m. today at Oakwood cemetery in Warsaw.

Wahnetta Susie Bushong
Albion - 1933-2002

Wahnetta Susie Bushong, 69, of Albion, who was a cook at Albion Jefferson School, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne.

"She enjoyed her grandchildren." The Steuben County native also worked at Dana Corp. in Churubusco. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Albion. Surviving are daughters Cindy Jacob of Albion and Cathy Blomberg of Wolcottville; stepdaughters Brenda Hoover of Albion, Collette Parker of Fort Wayne and LuAnn Spuller of Harbor Springs, Mich.; sisters Elinor Conrad of Albion and Phyllis Weibel of New Port Richey, Fla.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband, Glade, and two brothers preceded her in death. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla, with calling one hour before services and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery in Albion. Memorials are to Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana.

Angola - 1904-2002

Opal V. Johnson, 98, of Angola, who enjoyed tatting and crocheting, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Lakeland Nursing Center in Angola.

The Williams County, Ohio, native was a homemaker. Surviving are a sister, Maxine Sampson of Bullhead City, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Carolyn Parker of Pleasant Lake; a grandson, Dan Hardiek of Wrangell, Alaska; eight great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; daughters Lois P. Johnson and Marjorie Hardiek; two brothers and two sisters. Graveside services are 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Maple Grove cemetery in Edgerton, Ohio. There will be no calling.

Sylbert Byron "Barney" Heaston
Columbia City - 1920-2002

Sylbert Byron "Barney" Heaston, 82, of Columbia City, formerly of Fort Wayne, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

The Tippecanoe native retired from General Electric Specialty Motors in Fort Wayne after 31 years of service. He also worked for Sears and the Whitley County Health Department as an inspector for 12 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Blue River Community Church. Surviving are sons Steven B. and Bruce, both of Columbia City; a daughter, Karen Loeffler of Fort Wayne; a brother, Darrell of Fort Wayne; sisters Gloria Sidwell of Lake Wawasee, Syracuse, and Belva Schumacher of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred L., and two sisters. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, with calling one hour before services and also from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne. Memorials are to the church.

Clarence E. Zeigler, 90, of Columbia City, a Whitley County farmer, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia City.

The Green Township, Noble County native was a member of Blue River Church of the Brethren in Whitley County and Whitley County Farm Bureau. Surviving are a son, David L. of rural Churubusco; a stepson, William E. Berry of rural Churubusco; brothers Ralph P. and Allen E., both of rural Churubusco; sisters Mae Wappes of Churubusco, Geraldine Grawcock, Betty Crabill and Barbara Nicodemus, all of Columbia City, and Martha Wappes and Joy Follis, both of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Bernice, a daughter, Mary K. Weaver, and six brothers preceded him in death. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco, with calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at Eel River cemetery. Memorials are to the church.

Larkanne Denise Griffiths, 28, of Decatur, owner/operator of a home day-care business, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at home. The Decatur native worked at Professional Federal Credit Union in Bluffton and Fort Wayne, and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bingen and the Ladies Guild. Surviving are her husband, Keith; a daughter, Marnie R., at home; her parents, Frederick and LouAnn Bultemeyer of Decatur; brothers Von R. Bultemeyer of Indianapolis, Jared A. Bultemeyer and Jason W. Bultemeyer, both of Decatur; nieces Evonne Bultemeyer and Grace Bultemeyer; and a grandmother, Beverly Strader. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Bingen, preceded by prayer services at 9 a.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran cemetery in Bingen. Memorials are to the church, Wyneken Expansion, Parkview Health and Hospice or American Cancer Society.

Hicksville, Ohio -1928-2002

Berlin L. Miller, 74, of Hicksville, Ohio, a Korean War U.S. Army veteran, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at home.

The Washington Township native worked for the former Grizzly Manufacturing and Frank Harper Precision Tool, both of Paulding. He retired in 1990 from GM Powertrain of Defiance as a millwright after 25 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local 211 and American Legion Post 47 of Fort Wayne. Surviving are his wife, Lois; a son, Louis of Defiance; a daughter, Joyce Hessel of Scott; 16 stepchildren; sisters Shirley Ann Robinett of Bryan and Clara Willitzer of San Francisco, Calif; four grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. He was previously married to Evelyn H. Ashbaugh. Two brothers preceded him in death. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with calling from 8 a.m. until services and from 2 to 9 p.m. today. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Middle Creek cemetery in Washington Township. Memorials are to the American Heart Fund or Visiting Nurses/Hospice of Williams County, Ohio.

Dorothy W. Bok, 73, of Sherwood, Ohio, a volunteer for Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels, died Saturday, Dec. 14., 2002, at Laurels of Defiance Nursing Home in Defiance.

The Chicago native was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Ladies Aid and was a Sunday school superintendent. Surviving are her husband, Delbert; sons David and Ray, both of Sherwood; daughters Jan Hussong of Wheaton, Ill., and Marcia Shipkowski of Winfield, Ill.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Church cemetery, Sherwood. Jonathon P. of Greenville, Tenn.; a sister, Hazel Battenberg of Sacramento, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her husband, David S., and two brothers preceded her in death. The Manistique, Mich., native worked in cement work and construction in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. He was a past member of the Eagles Lodge in Michigan. Surviving are a son, Ernest A. of Wyoming; a brother, Hughie W. of Manistique, Mich.; a sister, Sharon Hicks of Manistique, Mich.; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel L. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel, Markle, with calling two hours before services. Burial will be at Star of Hope cemetery, Huntington County. Memorials are to the donor's choice.
