Phyllis I. (Mann) Knight, age 74, of 27 Diplomat Drive, Columbia City, IN died at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN. She had been in failing health for the past few months.
She was born on February 4, 1927 in Bippus, Huntington County, IN to William Dewey and Goldie May (Fulmer) Wince. Her parents moved their family from Huntington County to Columbia City in 1927 and in 1929 to the former S. J. Peabody farm in Columbia Township, moving from there to Washington Township, Kosciusko County, IN. She returned to Whitley County and spent the remainder of her lifetime in teh Columbia City area.
Mrs. Knight attended the former Cox School in Columbia Township from 1st through the 4th grade adn then attended Pierceton High School. She was a former employee of both the Blue Bell and Weatherhead Company in Columbia City. She retired from Weatherhead Company in 1976. She was a member of the Columbia City Free Will Baptist Church.
Her first marriage was to Curtis Mann on April 30, 1948 in Ligonier, IN. Her second marriage was to LeRoy Edward "Pete' Pratt on November 26, 1980 at the Freewill Baptist Church, Columbia City, IN and her last marriage was to Earl Knight on October 23, 1990 in Greenville, OH.
She is survived by three sons, C. Glenn, Roger L. Mann both of Columbia City and John H. Mann of Fort Wayne, IN. One sister Mrs. William (Rozella) Wicker, Columbia City and 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In addition to her 3 husbands she was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers Garold and Carl Wince.
Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Friday, January 4, 2002 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 5, 2002 at 1 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Taylor, a family relative, officiating. Burial will be in the South Park (Annex) cemetery, Columbia City, IN

John Paunovich, age 74, of Columbia City, IN died at 2:25 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2003 at Renaissance Village, rural Whitley County. Born on December 24, 1928, in Iselin, PA, he was the son of Matthew and Margaret (Spilok) Paunovich.
He attended Bell Township School and a 4 year course of Skill Trade Welders. He married
Thresa M. Vodzak on May 3, 1952 in East Vandergrift, PA . He was raised in Iselin, PA moving to Columbia City, IN in 1960. Employed by Inernational Harvester as a skill trade welder, he retired in 1990 with 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, and he enjoyed gardening, bowling and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Thresa of Columbia City; 4 daughters, Cynthia (Fred) Sharkey of Etna Green, IN, Lois (Robert) Odgen and Patricia Trumbull both of Columbia City, and Stacey Paunovich of Fort Wayne, IN; a son, Kevin (Kim) Paunovich; a brother, Joseph (Martha) Paunovich of Mount Pleasant, PA; 4 granchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Dominic Paunovich.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 29, 2003 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. with Deacon Joe Zickgraf officiating. Visitation after 9:30 a.m. at the church with the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30th, at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church with Father Dale Bauman officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic cemetery, Columbia City. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice, the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, Inc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Sandra C. Jersey, 48, of 7910 W 800 S, Cleveland Township, South Whitley, IN 46787 died at 11:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. She became suddenly ill on Thursday and was admitted to Parkview Whitley Hospital and later transferred to Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on November 27, 1954 in Lagrange, GA to Lewis Langford and Annie Lindsey.
She was raised in Georgia and as a young adult, her family moved to Florida for about 10 years and then moved to South Whitley in 1990. She attended Troup High School in Georgia.
She married
Anthony M. Jersey on June 25, 1979 in Monticello, FL. She cleaned numerous homes in the Whitley and Allen County areas. She was a member of Lighthouse Church, Columbia City, IN.

Jersey of South Whitley, IN; 5 daughters, Cindy (Jimmy) Duncan, West Point, GA, Jennifer (Nick) Sanders, Warsaw, IN, Renee, Rebecca and Veronica Jersey all at home; her mother, Annie Langford, Lagrange, GA, 1 grandson, Michael Duncan, West Point, GA; 2 brothers, Michael Langford, Lagrange, GA and Wayne (Debra) Langford, Phoenix City, Alabama and 1 sister, Linda (Howard) Carver, Lagrange, GA.

Ramon L. Sanderson, age 69, of 4335 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809 died at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2003 at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne, IN.
He was born in Fort Wayne, Allen County, IN on September 25, 1933 to Theodore and Eva (Baumgartner) Sanderson. He spent his entire lifetime in Allen County, IN. He attended Central High School, Fort Wayne, IN through the 10th grade. He married
Barbara L. Herron on April 29, 1961 in Fort Wayne, IN. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1956-1958 where he was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. He had worked at the International Harvester, Fort Wayne, IN for 24 years.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara L. of Fort Wayne, IN; 3 sons, Ramon L. (Denise) Sanderson, Paulding, OH, Steven R. (Sandra) Sanderson, Quincey, IL and Byron E. (Flo) E. Graves, Avilla, IN; 3 daughters, Rosalie Diane (Bernard) Squires of Columbia City, IN, Mildred (John) Bradbury of Columbia City, IN and Faith Teel of Cromwell, IN. 4 sisters, Jackie (Robert) Sprunger, Rochelle (Jerry) Murphy, Karen (George) Wilson and Sharon (Lloyd) Osborne all of Fort Wayne, IN. 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Theodore L. Sanderson and 1 granddaughter, Cynthia Diane Squires and 2 great grandchildren.

Betty J. Pontzius, age 58, of Columbia City, died at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday June 14, 2003 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. She was born in Warsaw, IN on October 9, 1944 to Monroe and Isabel (Odiorne) Kitson.
Graduating from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1963, she also attended Purdue University for one year. She married
Roy W. Pontzius on October 9, 1964 at the Columbia City United Methodist Church. A lifetime resident of Kosciusko and Whitley County, she was employed as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service since 1982 and she formerly owned and worked as a seamstress at Stitch-N-Knit, Columbia City. A member, choir member, and former trustee of Columbia City United Methodist Church, she also was a union steward for the Rural Letter Carrier Association.
Survivors include her husband, Roy W. of Columbia City; a daughter, Robin (John) Kleiman of Boswell, IN; a son, Dane (Leah) Pontzius of Orlando, FL; her mother, Isabel Bishop of Columbia City; a sister, Penny Snyder of Columbia City; a brother, Ray (Michelle) Kitson of Columbia City; 2 grandchildren, Lauren Kleiman and Ethan Pontzius. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Ann, a son, Jay Edward, her father, Monroe, and a grandson, Luke Gabriel Pontzius.
Visitation will be from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 N. Forest Parkway, Columbia City, with Pastor C. Jack Scott officiating and Pastor J. Phillip Blake assisting. Burial will be at Blue River cemetery. Harold L. Swartz, age 75, of South Whitley, died at 1:09 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City. He was born in Union Township, Columbia City, on October 13, 1927 to Charles Clarence and Eva Blanche (George) Swartz.
He was educated in the Whitley County School System and he married
Evelyn J. Gradeless on July 2, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church. A lifetime Whitley County resident, he retired from Gripco in 1985 as a machinist. His memberships included St. John's Lutheran Church, Eagles Lodge #1906 and Columbia City Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; 2 daughters, Mrs. John (Roxanna) Hodges of Big Piney, WY and Mrs. Debra (Veryl) Whaley of Columbia City; 2 sons, Ronald E. Swartz of Mesquite, NV and David A. Swartz of Pleasant Lake, IN; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles Swartz and Eva Swartz-Smith.

Ilean Mable Hippensteel, age 85, formerly of 5165 W 450 S, Albion, IN 46701 died at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2003 at the Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN. She was born on September 27, 1917 in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, IN to Manuel and Alma (Gaerte) Smith.
She attended the Smith School and was reared in Thorncreek Township. After her marriage to Gale G. Hippensteel on July 13, 1941 in Plymouth, IN she moved to Noble County where she spent the remainder of her lifetime, until her health failed and she entered the nursing home. She first worked at the Blue Bell Company and later as a assembler for Lyall Electric.
She is survived by 1 son, Robert (Cindy) Hippensteel of Albion, IN; 3 daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Sandra) Snider of Zephyrhills, FL, Deanna S. Briggs of Minneapolis, MN and Mrs. Von (Karen) Bridegam of Columbia City, IN. 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren also survive. 1 sister, Betty Krom of South Whitley, IN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gale G. Hippensteel who died on December 16, 1976, 4 sisters, Ethel Holt, Cherl Adkins, Dorothy Cleland and Edith Geyer; 3 brothers, Franklin, Lewis and Otto Smith.

Paul E. Clifford, age 77, died at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at The Oaks in Columbia City, IN. He was born in Allen County, IN on September 24, 1925 to Oscar and Hazel (Felger) Clifford. He graduated with the Class of 1944 from Coesse High School.
A World War II veteran, he served in the Navy from 1943 to 1947. He married
Hildreth Zinn on April 2, 1949 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, IN. A resident of Whitley County his whole life, he was employed for 15 years by Essex Wire, Fort Wayne, IN, he retired in 1990 from Union Township School with 24 years in the maintenance department, and he was also employed by John's Auto Correction, Columbia City, IN.
He was a Coesse Boy Scout Leader for Troop #88, a member of the Coesse United Methodist Church, Columbia City American Legion Post #98, Columbia City Eagles Lodge #1906, and a charter member of the Union Township Fire Department who awarded him with a 50 year plaque for service.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra (Anthony) Zickgraf of Columbia City and Rita (Dennis) Wolfe of Larwill; a son, John (Carla) Clifford of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren; 5 brothers, Robert Clifford of Larwill, IN; Charles Clifford of Auburn, IN, Frederick and Kenny Clifford both of Columbia City, and Jerry Clifford of Waterloo, IN; and a sister, Joan Bennett of Spring City, TN. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Hildreth who died October 3, 1989, and a brother, Dick Clifford.
Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with Pastor Jeff Boyles from the Coesse United Methodist Church officiating. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2003 at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #98 with burial at Hope Lutheran cemetery, Coesse. Memorials may be made in Mr. Clifford's memory to Columbia City High School Athletic Fund or Union Township Fire Department.
