Jack Eugene Ewing, age 64, of 791 Dogwood Drive, Columbia City, IN died at 4:12 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past few months.

He was born in Whitley County, IN on January 5, 1938 to Albert Delbert and Dorothy M. (Gay) Ewing. He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1956 and attended General Electric Apprentice School and also took several continuing education classes at Purdue University.

He has lived his entire life in Columbia City, IN except for 2 brief periods when he lived in Fort Wayne, IN. He married at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, IN to Joanna M. Parent on July 19, 1958 by Father Louis Zenz. He worked in various tool shops and retired after 20 years from United Technology, Columbia City, IN where he was a Quality Control Manager. He also owned Ewing's Broasted Chicken and ran an Auction House where he held auctions every week. The past 9 years he has been co-owner of E Tooling, Inc., Columbia City, IN along with his wife and his sons.

He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, IN where he was Parish Council President for 2001-2002 and also active in Christ Renews It's Parish, the Columbia City Eagles Lodge #1906 and a former member of the Columbia City Jaycee's where he held all offices and also was a former Regional Vice-President.

He is survived by his wife, Joanna M. Ewing of Columbia City, IN; one daughter, Jacqueline Sue Lehman of Fort Wayne, IN and 2 sons, Brian E. (Debbie) Ewing of South Whitley, IN and Kevin W. (Peggy) Ewing of Columbia City, IN; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. One brother, Marvin "Butch" (Dianna) Ewing of Columbia City, IN and one sister, Mary (Charles Milton) Krider of Columbia City, IN.

He is preceded in death by his parents Albert Delbert and Dorothy M. Gay Ewing and twin grandsons Trever & Cory Ewing.

Visitation will be held from 2-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2002 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with the Rosary service held at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2002 at the funeral home. There will be visitation at the church on Saturday, July 20, 2002 after 9:00 a.m. The funeral mass will be held 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002 at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 South Line Street, Columbia City, IN with Father Dale Bauman and Deacon Joseph Zickgraf officiating. Burial will be at the St. Paul of the Cross Catholic cemetery, Columbia City, IN. Memorial donations may be given in Mr. Ewing's memory to either the Parkview Whitley Hospice, masses to St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church or St. Paul of the Cross Senior Youth Group % George Crowe.

Grace A. Burris, age 80, of 525 E. Columbia Street, South Whitley, IN, died at 6:40 a.m. on Monday July 15, 2002 at her son's Roanoke residence. She was born on November 14, 1921 to Charles and Laura (Johnson) Mills in Fort Wayne, Allen Co., IN.

She married Charles H. Burris on August 7, 1940 in Fort Wayne, IN. She resided at Indiana State Road 114 for 13 years and in the Whitley Co. area the rest of her life. She retired from General Electric Company in 1978 and she was also employed by Menu Meats and I.T. T., Fort Wayne, IN.

Survivors include one daughter Janice E. Swaim, Columbia City, IN; two sons, Dennis C. (Linda) Burris, Leo-Spencerville, IN and Charles A. (Mary) Burris from Roanoke, IN; two sisters, Ruth Smith, Fort Wayne, IN and Garnett Roth, Coldwater, MI; one brother, Deloy Mills, Fort Wayne, IN; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Her husband died on July 24, 1993. Her parents, two brothers, Charles L. and Dale Mills, and a granddaughter, Tamee Perry, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home with Reverend Darrell Weigelt, Cornerstone Alliance Church, and Marti Schrader officiating. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Burris's memory to the donor's choice.

Paul J. Mossburg, age 83, of 244 South Lawrence Street, Westgate Addition, Columbia City, IN 46725 died at 3:50 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2002 at the Parkview Whitley Hospital Emergency Room, Columbia City, IN from results of a two car accident early Monday afternoon on US 30.

He was born on May 9, 1919 in Grant County, IN to Delmer O. Mossburg and Mary Lou (Hazel) Robbins.

He graduated from Coesse High School with the Class of 1937. He married Jean Marie Walker on May 6, 1939 in Coesse, IN. He served with the United States Navy during WWII from March 10, 1944 to December 10, 1945. His membership includes the Columbia City United Methodist Church.

He worked most of his lifetime as a self-employed general contractor; however, in 1981 he retired after 17 years of service with Wickes Lumber Company, Fort Wayne, IN where he called on and estimated for contractors. In the 1950's, he worked at the Weatherhead Company, Columbia City, IN for a few years. His hobby was building and designing things and later in his life he became an avid landscape artist.

He is survived by his wife, Jean M. Mossburg, onee son, Steven J. (Shirley) Mossburg, Columbia City, IN; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Judy K.) Altimus, Columbia City, IN and Mrs. Bruce (Kathie D.) Lash, Columbia City, IN; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn (Eugene) Cook, Columbia City, IN and one sister-in-law, Treva Mossburg, Columbia City, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Mossburg.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City, IN 46725 with Pastor C. H. Errol Schuman, age 83, of 612 West Market Street, Columbia City, IN 46725 died at 10:07 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2002 at the Parkview Whitley Hospital Emergency Room, Columbia City, IN.

He was born on September 9, 1918 to Henry L. and Flossie E. (Harris) Schuman in Richland Township, Whitley County, IN. Except for his stints in the military, he has always lived in Whitley County. He graduated from Larwill High School with the Class of 1936. He served as a Master Sgt. with the United States Army during WW II from 1944-1946 and during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1951. During his military service, Mr. Schuman developed his love of bowling while bowling outside in a tent.

He married Ailsa L. "Billie" Goodrich on January 1, 1938. They divorced in 1974.

He was first employed by Weatherhead, the Pennsylvania Railroad Parcel Delivery, he also owned E. Schuman & Son Excavating with his son, DeVon, and was a co-owner of Mudslide Ceramics in Columbia City, IN. Mr. Schuman was the owner of Schuman Bowling Alley from 1949-1988 which he constructed, owned, operated and later developed a miniature golf course and a drive-in restaurant near the bowling alley. He was a life time member of the Eagles Lodge #1906 for over 55 years, Elks Lodge, and the Moose Lodge all of Columbia City. He was also a member of American Legion Post 98, and the National American Bowling Hall of Fame and a former charter member of Columbia City Kiwanis Club. On May 15, 1996 he was inducted into the Fort Wayne Bowling Hall of Fame. He helped establish the Junior Bowling Leagues in Columbia City and Fort Wayne, IN

He is survived by a daughter Carol (LeRoy) Krider, Columbia City, IN and a son E. DeVon (Millicent) Schuman, Columbia City, IN, 2 brothers Melvin (Lucy) Schuman, South MIlford, IN and Hal (Louise) Schuman, Avilla, IN, his former wife Ailsa L "Billie" Schuman, Columbia City, IN, 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and his longtime companion of 22 years, Charlene D. Geneva, Columbia City, IN and her daughter Kristian R. Geneva, Fort Wayne, IN.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2002 from 2-5 & 6-8 PM and one hour before the service at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at 10:30 AM with Reverend Ronnie Sams, First Christian Church, Warsaw, officiating. Burial will be in South Park Original cemetery, Columbia City, IN with military graveside rites being conducted by the American Legion Post #98. Memorials may be given in Mr. Schuman's name to the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Charmaine Lynn Bouck, age 41, of 245 EMS R-4 Lane, Pierceton, IN, died at 5:41 a.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2002 at the Kosciusko Community Hospital emergency room, Warsaw, IN. She was born on July 7, 1960 to Bobby and Frances Joy (Haynes) Smith in Phoenix, AZ.

She graduated with the Class of 1978 from Artesia High School, Artesia, NM. Residing in Carlsbad and Farmington, NM until 1989, she then moved to Columbia City, IN. She married Thomas W. Bouck on July 14, 1993 in Pierceton, IN. Her places of employment included Viking, Columbia City, IN, and she was an independent wellness consultant for Nikken, Inc.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Ward Bouck, 245 EMS R-4 Lane, Pierceton, IN 46562 (574-594-2208); two sons, Chad Welton Braswell, McAllen, TX and Jonathan Michael North, Columbia City, IN; her parents, Bobby and Frances Joy Smith of Carlsbad, NM; a step-daughter, Tammy Renee Richman of Concrete, WA; four step-sons, Thomas Bouck, Jr. of Pierceton, IN, Todd Anthony Bouck of Syracuse, IN, Troy David Bouck of North Webster, IN, Travis James Bouck of Elkhart, IN; four brothers, Billy Gene Smith of Carlsbad, NM, Jackie Joe Smith of Las Cruces, NM, Patrick Mark Hughie of Warsaw, IN, Michael Thomas Hughie of Artesia, NM, Craig Alan Hughie of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Terri Ruth Lunsford, Fort Worth, TX.

Harry Cliffton Haynes, a grandfather, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor John Cummings, from Community Bible Church, officiating. Kevin Kent Dunlap, age 48, 5465 S 475 W, 802 South State Street, South Whitley, IN 46787 died at 2:35 p.m. on Saturday June 22, 2002 at the Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, IN where he had been take after being involved in a motorcylce accident.

He was born on September 15, 1953 in Columbia City, IN to Donald Hubert and Deliah Jane (Gaff) Dunlap. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1971. He was married a brief time to Stacy Collier Egner from July 2, 1976 to January 1978. He was employed with Essex Wire and Cable as a warehouse employee since 1976.

He was a member of ABATE Motorcycle Organization for the past 16 years and always helped with the Whitley County Christmas Bureau. He has attended the National Morotcycle Rally in Sturgis, SD for 2 years. He is also a member of the Columbia City Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge #1906.

He is survived by his mother Deliah Jane (Junior) Studebaker, Columbia City, IN, a sister, Lee Ann Dunlap, Columbia City, 2 uncles Ernest (Emma) Gaff, Columbia City, IN, and Walter(Joan) Gaff, Herington, KS. 2 Step-Brothers, Dick (Barb) Studebaker and Bob (Janice) Studebaker both of Columbia City, IN and 2 Step-Sisters Judy (Dan) Coyle and Dianne (Larry) Shrock also of Columbia City, IN and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Dunlap, grandparents Clayton and Eldee Gaff and Ernest & Goldie Dunlap. 2 Uncles Hugh and Phil Gaff, and cousins Randall, Stephen, and Lester Gaff.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2002 from 2-8 PM at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Fuenral Home in Columbia City, IN. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at 10:30 AM at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home in Columbia City, IN with Pastor Carrol McNutt officiating. Welcome Home! "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith", are words that would apply to W. Joyce Bollinger, age 98, 8333 S. 350 W., South Whitley, IN 46787, who died at 1:40 p.m. at her residence south of Tunker, Washington Township, Whitley County, on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 after a brief illness. She was born in Greentown, Howard County, IN on March 11, 1904 to John Henry Reed and Jennie Susan Broyles Reed. She graduated from Washington Center High School with the Class of 1923. She then was certified in March 1927 with the Sherwood Music School, Chicago, IL. Mrs. Bollinger taught paino for over 60 years and taught over 350 students.

She married her high school sweetheart, Harry Rudolph Bollinger on August 12, 1926 at the Church of the Brethren, in Kokomo, IN. Mr. Bollinger, a school teacher for over 40 years in Whitley County, passed away on April 21, 1981. She has resided at her Washington Township farm south of Tunker since 1926.

Her church memberships over the years include the Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren, Tunker, IN, the South Whitley Church of the Brethren and lastly she has been attending the Community of Hope Grace Brethren Church, Columbia City, IN. She was an avid reader, writer, writing some poetry and she loved her flower gardens.

Surviving are three daughters, Alice Joy Bohnstedt, 110 Mulberry Street, Columbia City, IN 46725, Mary Ellen Thomas, 3769 W 800 S, South Whitley, IN 46787 and Wanda Rose Friesen, PO Box 3142, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403; two sons, John Phares (Marian) Bollinger, 7750 S 200 W, Columbia City, IN 46725 and Harry R. (Velva) Bollinger, 4011 South Nebraska Street, Marion, IN 46953; 1 sister Juanita Reed Hoover, Marion, IN; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Her husband and parents preceded her in death along with 1 brother John Wesley Reed and 2 half brothers, Paul and Robert Reed and 6 half sisters, Roxy Sleeth, Ethel Rosier, Hazel Mitchener, Dolly Reed, Marie Reed and Bertha Clevenger. Also 2 son in laws, Edward Bohnstedt and Jack G. Thomas, 1 grandson, Kenyon Bollinger and 1 grandson in law, Dick Clifford.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2002 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 22, 2002 from 2 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2002 at the Community of Hope Grace Brethren Church, 201 West Market Street, Columbia City, IN with one hour of calling before the funeral service. Pastors Dan Gregory and Dan Riccius will be officiating. Burial will be at Eberhard cemetery, Keiser Road, Columbia City, IN. Memorial bequests may be given to Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren or Grace Brethren Church-Community of Hope. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

She was born on September 21, 1922 in Washington Township, Whitley County, IN to Edmond L. and Etta Victoria (Keel) Juillerat.

She graduated from Washington Center High School with the Class of 1940. She married Jonathan LeLand Thorn on April 25, 1942 in Jefferson Twp. Whitley County, IN. She was a homemaker and worked with her family on their family farm. She spent her entire lifetime in Washington Township, Whitley County, IN except for a few years while her husband was in the military.

She is survived by 3 sons, Robert (Mary) Thorn; Richard (Lani) Thorn and Jerry Thorn all of Columbia City, IN; 3 brothers Donald (Orpha) Juillerat, of Larwill, IN and Ralph (Eloise) Juillerat of Churubusco, IN and 1 sister Mary Giant of Fort Wayne, IN. Also 3 grandchildren including Todd A. Schlichter of Columbia City, IN, Jonathan L. Thorn of Santa Monica, CA and Kristi L. Thorn of Louisville, KY.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Jonathan LeLand Thorn who died in 1990; sisters, Lorene Richards and Berniece Alexander and brothers Harry, Ernest, Gilbert, Dale and Orville Juillerat.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2002 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2002 at the funeral home with Pastor Barry Faucett of the New Hope Wesleyan Church, Columbia City, IN officiating. Burial will be at the Covington Memorial Gardens, 8326 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN.
