FLORENCE ANN CONRAD
age 77 of Morristown, IN passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008. She was born on June 22, 1931 in Oklahoma to the late A.J. and Margaret Berwick. She was a former longtime Hobart resident and also resided in Cadillac, MI. She was formerly employed at Jacobson’s Supply in Merrillville, IN. Florence loved gardening and flowers.
She is survived by 3 sons, Phil (Bev) Conrad of Hobart, IN; Clyde Conrad of Hobart, IN; Dennis Conrad of Speedway, IN; 1 daughter, Hope (Rocky) Garner of Rushville, IN; 1 brother, Pete Berwick of CA; 1 sister, Joyce Dappen of CA; 6 grandchildren, Michael (Kristin) Bogan, Jennifer (Clint) Thompson, Phillip (Melissa) Conrad, Carrie (Anthony) Piunti, Travis and Ashley Conrad, 4 great-grandchildren, Bradley and Shelby Conrad, and Emily and Ethan Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A.J. and Margaret Berwick, husband, James Conrad, and 2 brothers, Jim and Lane Berwick.

Loretta Frances (nee Westerfield) Stanford
Loretta Frances (nee Westerfield) Stanford, age 78 of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away, Monday, October 27, 2008 at St. Catherine Hospital. Loretta was born and raised in Shelbyville, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Stanford, son, Harold A. Sancya, parents, Andrew J. Westerfield III and Huldah May (nee Lewis) Westerfield, 3 brothers: Charles W., George and Robert E. Westerfield.
She is survived by 5 children: Charles E. Hobbs of Grandview, MO, Roger Stanford of Fort Wayne, IN, Roberta M. Grifana of Virginia Beach, VA, Gary W. Stanford of Merced, CA, and Nancy R. Maslanka of Hobart, IN, 8 grandchildren: Ryan, Lia, Sean, Ashley, Heather, Jeff, Nicholas and Michael, 4 great grandchildren, 3 nieces and 3 nephews.
There was no visitation or viewing. Burial of Loretta’s cremated remains will take place Monday, November 3, 2008 2:00 pm with a gravedside /mausoleum service at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery, 3815 W. 39th Avenue, Hobart, Indiana with Rev. RAY DON WEILER
age 78, a longtime resident of Crown Point passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2008. He was born at the family home on January 4, 1930, the son of Albert and Viola Weiler. Ray was married
to Charlotte Farster on September 1, 1956 in Crown Point. Ray worked as a farmer on the family farm and he also worked at LTV Steel as a roller and then head of the paint shop retiring in 1993 after 45 years of service. Ray was a member of the Crown Point 1st United Methodist Church, an active member of Lake Masonic Lodge # 157, was past president of the Crown Point Masonic Lodge Temple Association, a member of the South Bend Scottish Rite, Orak Shrine, a member of the Orak Hillbillies, a past patron of the Crown Point Eastern Star # 408, and was known to many as the Corn Man when he sold sweet corn for the Lodge at the Lake County Fair. He loved fishing and woodworking, and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Charlotte Weiler, Crown Point, son Don (Jan) Boesel, Temple, TX, daughters Nancy (James) Lytle, Crown Point, Margie (Keith) Nay, Chesterton, and Mary Jo Dykhuis, Crown Point, grandchildren Amber, Ashley, Christine, David, Sean, Travis, Chet, Kjari, Sara, Kara, and Jeremy, 9 great-grandchildren, brother Dean (Shelby) Weiler, Portage, and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Brice and Jimmy Weiler.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Rees Funeral Home – Winfield Chapel, 10909 Randolph Street, Winfield, followed immediately by a funeral service and Masonic service at 11:00 am, with Pastor Mark Wilkins, officiating. Patty Lou Howison (Nee Price)
age 66, originally from Hobart and San Pierre, and recently from Valparaiso, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 peacefully and quietly at home from natural causes. She was born on December 11, 1942, the daughter of the late Percy and Kathryn Price. Patty was an exceptional wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and generosity will be dearly missed.
Patty is survived by her loving family: children; Robin (Elzie) Keaton, Valparaiso, IN, Anthony (Bertha) Howisen, Kankakee, IL, and Erik (Kristen) Howisen, Knox, IN and she was blessed with 9 grandchildren; Dustin, Donnie (Annie), Erika, Sabian, Nicholas, Zachary, Morgan, Michael, and Logan; and 1 great-grandchild; Dustin, Jr.; special daughter; Deanna (Randy) Lynch; sisters Nancy Crussen, Hobart, IN and Linda Lindsay, Roselawn, IN; and other loving family and dear friends.
Patty was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Robert Howisen; brothers; Robert Price and John Price; sisters; Norma Jean Wilson and Kathryn Jo Price, and grandchildren; Kayla and Cameron Keaton.

Helen G. Owen
age 96 of Portage, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009. She was a former Gary/Hobart resident. Socialite Helen was a faithful Cubs fan and avid Bridge player. She also enjoyed oil painting and sewing.
She is survived by a daughter, Melinda (late Ronald) Rhodes of West Weber, UT; 5 grandchildren, Felicia (Bill) Hodge of Lake Station, IN; Rhonda (Don) McMaster of Appleton, WI; Cora (David) Neal of Rohnert Park, CA; Mary (Lyle) Schofield of West Weber, UT; Becky (Kevin) Murphy of Las Vegas, NV; 12 great-grandchildren, Monica, Scott, and Sarah Hodge, Tyler and Joey McMaster, Canyon and Cedar Neal, Andrew, Alex, Ellie, Christian, and Anya Schofield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell L. Owen, her daughter, Monica Posavac, and her brother Walter Brauslauskis.
Funeral services are Friday, January 30, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at Nativity of Our Savior, 2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage with Father David W. Kime officiating. Age 50 of Portage, Indiana passed away on Monday, January 26, 2009. He was born September 24, 1958 to Benito and Guadalupe White. He is survived by his wife Margaret White, 4 brothers, Benito (Alma) White Jr, Joe (Gina) White, Gilbert White, George White, 2 sisters, Linda (Robert) Leon and Sylvia White. He was preceded in death by his father, Benito White.
Funeral Service will be held at Rees Funeral Home, 3781 Central Ave., Lake Station on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 1:00 PM with Deacon Robert Bonta officiating. Rosemary L. Smith
age 86, of Lakes of the Four Seasons passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at St. Anthony Medical Center, Crown Point. She was born on August 23, 1922, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of John and Matilda Mackin. Rosemary graduated from Emerson High School, class of 1940. She was married
to Norbert J. Smith in Gary in 1948. She had worked at the Lady Shop in Gary and was the office manager for many years at the Cornet Shop in Merrillville before retiring in the late 1980’s. Rosemary was a member of the Lakes of the Four Seasons Fire Auxiliary where she served in all offices over the years. She was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Merrillville. Rosemary was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by one daughter, Gerri S. Klein of Crown Point; one son, John J. (Judie Dziezak) Smith of Hoffman Estates, IL; three Grandsons, Kyle J. (fiancée, Jillian Richet) Klein, Brandon E. Klein and Garrett A. Klein and one Great Grandson, Gavin J. Klein; and other loving family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Norbert J. Smith in 1998.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009, beginning with 9:15 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Winfield Chapel, 10909 Randolph St., Winfield (Crown Point) and then proceeding to Our Lady of Consolation for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. WESLEY E. “TEX” McGLOTHIN
WESLEY E. “TEX” McGLOTHIN, age 88, of Portage, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Millers Merry Manor in Portage. Wesley was a Northwest Indiana resident for 58 years and retired from US Steel with 30 years of service. “Tex” was a WW II Army Veteran. He enjoyed gardening and yard work.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby, son, Billy Wayne McGlothin of Sturgis, Kentucky, 3 daughters, Patricia (Mac) McKinley of Ohio, Ruby Doris Bowden of New Chicago, IN, Trenda (Flavel) Christensen of Lake Station, 17 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 daughters, Regina Lynn LeBron, Rheba Smith & Ruth Ann Galle, 3 brothers, James, Tom, & Clyde McGlothin and sister, Ortha Hudson.

Warden A. Owens
Warden A. Owens, age 61, formerly of Lake Station passed away January 27, 2009 at the Wisconsin State Veterans Home in Waupaca WI. He was born on June 14, 1947 the son of the late Warden B. and Eva. Allen as he was known attended Edison Sr. High School in Lake Station Indiana. Allen proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War and achieved the rank of DLG-3. He served on the U.S.S. WM. V. Pratt and was a disabled American Veteran. Allen is survived by his brother Harry (Verna) Owens of Waupaca, WI, sisters Sandra Gretzinger of Waupaca, WI, Claudia (Skip) Brazil of Valparaiso IN, Sharon Owens of Weyauwega WI. Also beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Allen is preceded in death by his sister Imogene and Jerome Sherwood, and niece Deborah Sherwood. A visitation for Allen will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. LEONARD A. “LENNIE” SWEET
age 54, of Hobart, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009. Lennie was born August 8, 1954 in Hammond Indiana.
Lennie was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Connie Sweet. He is survived by his daughter, Rachael Lynn Sweet; sister, Candee (Ron)Sweet Warren; devoted, loving partner, Pam, stepdaughters, Ashley and Brandie, and ex-wife, Linda Sweet.
From the time he was a young boy Lennie worked with his dad at San Remo Restaurant and the other family restaurants. His real passion was music, whether playing in a band, writing music, or just sittin’ around and jammin’. Everybody that knew him loved him.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Lennie’s honor are appreciated to the family to help defray funeral expenses.
