Travis Bradford Crider, 35
We mourn the untimely passing and celebrate the life of Travis B. Crider, husband, father, son, brother and best friend to so many who passed away at Bloomington Hospital on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the age of 35.
He was born in Bloomington to George Crider and Judy (Freeman) Crider on October 18, 1972. Travis faced many incredible challenges and adversity during his short life, beginning in 1989 with the diagnosis of leukemia. Then liver disease required Travis to have a liver transplant in October of 2007. He survived both of these illnesses despite very slim odds.
Through all, Travis faced these challenges with strength, courage and a positive attitude. He never complained or asked why, and he could always find a smile for you. He was a fighter, a natural born leader and a hero, and he taught us to never take anything for granted. He was funny, smart, loyal and passionate about his family, friends and music.
He was an amazing husband and soul mate to his wife, Kim, and a wonderful father to his son, Nich. He was also a huge fan of the rock band KISS, whom he met during his battle with leukemia.
Travis was a phenomenal musician who taught, inspired and awed so many.
He played guitar in the bands Lawless, Tom Foolery, Fist, and Black Earth and, since 2004, Betrayed With A Kiss. His friends and fans (there are many) meant the world to him. Travis was a rock star and an entertainer. He always gave every performance his all regardless of how many people were in front of the stage - 5 or 5, 000 - and for those of us who were privileged to know him, Travis was a living legend and local musical icon. Anyone who truly knows Travis knows that he's in heaven right now showing Dimebag Darrell a thing or two. He will be greatly missed by all and there are no words that can express the void of his absence.
Travis is survived by his loving wife, Kim (Butler) Crider; son, Nich Watkins of Ellettsville; father, George Crider and companion Johnetta Mohr of Bloomington; mother, Judy Freeman and husband Ron Freeman of Bloomington; sister, Aprile Crider of Bloomington; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 12:00 at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville with Pastor Mark Villanova officiating. Travis will be interred at Clear Creek cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00.
