John Marvin Rutledge
July 19, 1930 - February 18, 2010
John Marvin Rutledge, 79, Mulberry, formerly of Lafayette, died at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010, in the Mulberry Health Retirement Center.
Born July 19, 1930, in Rockville, Indiana, he was the son of Peter Mennick and Ethel Mae (White) Rutledge. On Dec. 26, 1955, in Rockville, he was married
to Phyllis (Martin) Rutledge, who survives.
John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon with 6 Bronze Service Stars, The Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal.
In 1960, John received his Bachelors of Science degree from Purdue University. He retired in 1994 from INDOT, where he had worked for 33 years as a civil engineer.
John was a member of the American Legion Argonne Post 180 of Great Bend, Kansas, the 1st Calvary Division Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled Veterans of America, and the Marshall High School Alumni Association. His involvement as a member of the Korean War Veterans was very important to him. He had served as editor of their newsletter and also as commander of the Lafayette chapter.
Time spent with his family was his priority and something he enjoyed very much.
Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Holly (Mike) Hanley, of Lafayette; one son, Robin (Laura) Rutledge, of Frederick, MD; and one grandson, Tyler Rutledge, of Frederick, MD.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jean Rutledge Johnson.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2010, in Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel, Lafayette.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2010, in Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dan Young officiating.
Burial will follow in Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Legion.
William Lee (Bill) Boehme

William Lee "Bill" Boehme, 65 of Logansport, IN, died Sunday, February 7, 2010 in his residence.
Born December 20, 1944 in Lake Cicott, Indiana, he was the son of the late Roy E. and Elizabeth Armstrong Boehme.
He was employed with Trelleborg in Peru for several years.
Surviving are 3 Sons, Donald Boehme of Logansport, Scott (Tammy) Boehme of Peru, and Robert (Angela) Boehme of Logansport; Brother, James Boehme of Logansport; 2 Sisters, Jean (James) Roller of Royal Center, and Carol Cook (Howard Dean) of Rochester; and eleven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one grandchild..
Friends will be received 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, Indiana.
Services will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Aaron Gross officiating.

Jonathan Allen Popejoy
December 13, 1980 - February 15, 2010
Jonathon Allen Popejoy, 29 of Logansport, passed away Monday, February 15, 2010, in Logansport.
Born December 13, 1980 in Logansport, he was the son of Ronald and Teresa Anderson Popejoy, who survive in Logansport.
He was married
October 8, 2005 to Amanda Dillon Popejoy at Keeps Creek Chapel on Pleasant Hill. She survives.
A 1999 graduate of Logansport High School, Jonathon attended First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed racing Sprint cars.
Jonathon operated a small livestock and grain farm in addition to working as a machinist at Caterpillar in Lafayette..
Surviving are his parents, his wife, two daughters, Elana Popejoy and Leila Popejoy; one son, Alex Jones; Brother, Tony Popejoy of Kokomo, IN; maternal grandmother, Shirley Anderson; and maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Jack and Donna Anderson.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 17 at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport.
Services will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Bill Shannon officiating.
Interment will follow in the Keeps Creek cemetery, near Clymers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Popejoy Children Trust Fund established at Logansport Savings Bank. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Michael Robert Hobbs
September 21, 1966 - February 20, 2010
Michael Robert Hobbs, 43, of Lucerne, passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 following injuries sustained in an accident north of Galveston.
Born Sept. 21, 1966, in Anaheim, CA, he was the son of William T. and Martha Cunningham Hobbs. His mother survives in Oaktown, Indiana.
On May 20, 1989, in the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Logansport, he was married
to Laura Patton, who survives.
A 1985 graduate of North Knox High School in Bicknell, Indiana, Michael served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years and had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a graduate of Ivy Tech Community College where he received his degree as a master electrician.
For over 15 years, Michael worked at Haynes International in Kokomo as an electrician.
Building bird houses was his specialty. He was an artist and enjoyed making things. His hobbies included fishing and sports, especially NASCAR. He was very loving and enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He was a terrific father and loved his kids so much. Whatever activity they were in became his passion. He loved watching his daughter play volleyball and his son play basketball at Pioneer.
Surviving with his wife and mother are his son, Michael James Hobbs, a junior at Pioneer H.S.; his daughter, Katelyn Louise, a 5th grader at Pioneer Elementary School; one brother, William P. (Nikki) Hobbs, Oaktown, IN; one sister, Karen (Peter) Beisler, Sarasota, FL; brothers-in-law, Steven (Brenda) Hall, Greentown, IN, and Alan (Kaddy) Hall, Melbourne, FL; sisters-in-law, Linda Rinehart, Logansport, and Becky (David) Jackson, Lucerne; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
His father and an infant brother, Thomas Myles Hobbs, preceded in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kevin Drane officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, from 2 to 8 p.m. in Fisher Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the services on Thursday.
Burial, with full military rites, will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with a memorial contribution to the Hobbs Children Education Fund at Community State Bank, Royal Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Robert K. "Bob" Nesbitt

West Lafayette resident Bob Nesbitt died Sunday morning February 7, 2010.
Born January 5, 1915 to Claude Nesbitt and Nelle Davisson Nesbitt, Bob grew up on the family farm, enjoying a rural life that he cherished for the family love, disciplined work and knowledge of plants and animals. As a child, he attended Jackson Township Schools. He enjoyed Boy Scouts and 4-H as a boy, and he was a member of the Jackson Methodist Church. He grew up surrounded by an extended family of grandparents, aunts and uncles. He was graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1933, and attended Purdue University.
In 1939 Bob married
Margaret Burghardt, who was also born and raised in Jackson Township. They set up housekeeping in Sioux City, Iowa, where he worked as a carpenter for Curtis Sash Door. Burroughs Adding Machine Company recruited him to a position as a machinist, and as their family grew, he was promoted to positions in Lincoln, Nebraska; Royal Oak, Michigan; and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. In Royal Oak Bob served as treasurer of the Royal Oak First Methodist Church, a position he also held at Covenant Church in Cuyahoga Falls. He worked for Burroughs for 35 years, retiring in 1980. After Margaret's death in 1996, he moved to West Lafayette, Indiana, to be near friends and family from his early life.
Bob was a quiet, independent man who liked companionship and enjoyed gardening. He was an extraordinarily meticulous handyman around his home, keeping everything in exceptional condition and building beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. He enjoyed exploring the out-of-doors with his family, visiting his daughters often as they grew up, moved away and established families of their own.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Gail N. Hunt, Sue Keller and Nannette Nesbitt; grandchildren Kimberly Hunt, John Hunt, David Holmberg, Sam Holmberg and Andrew Keller; brothers Gene Nesbitt and David Nesbitt; nieces and nephews Mark Nesbitt, Janet Nesbitt, Don Nesbitt, Jane Ferguson and Dick Nesbitt. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Nesbitt and nephew Bruce Nesbitt.
He is missed by all who have known and loved him and will not be forgotten.
The family plans a graveside service at Sugar Grove cemetery in late spring, when Indiana peonies are in bloom.

Aaron Michael Peacock

Aaron Michael Peacock, 45, of Lafayette, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010, in Lafayette.
Born January 19, 1965, in Lafayette, he was the son of Frederick and Frieda Peacock, who survive. In 1983, he graduated from Central Catholic High School where he played varsity football and baseball.
He graduated from Purdue University in 1988 with a degree in Engineering. While at Purdue, Aaron was active in student government, serving as president of the Purdue Off-Campus Student Organization. He was also a member of the Debating team.
In 1995, Aaron decided to change careers and entered the Graduate School of Law at Northern Illinois University. He served as a legal aid law clerk in Lafayette in 1996. In 1997, he won the NIU Moot Court competition. In 1998, he graduated with a Doctor of Jurist Prudence.
Aaron became a member of the Illinois Bar Association in 1998. He served as the Assistant State’s Attorney in Lincoln, Illinois until 2000. In 2000, he accepted a position as a Public Defender in Danville, Illinois, serving there until 2007.
He enjoyed collecting casino chips and was an active member of the Chicago Land Chippers Association. He was an avid fan of Purdue football and basketball, the Chicago White Sox, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by three brothers, W. Eric Peacock, of Springfield, MO, Alexander and Samuel Peacock, both of Battle Ground, IN; and one sister, Kim, of Lafayette. Also surviving are three nephews, Joel, Joshua and Elijah, of Springfield, MO.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lafayette Urban Ministry.
Anna M. Grady

Anna M. Grady, 81 years old, Lafayette, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Born March 10, 1928, in New Haven, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Jessie Sr. and Lieulo (Cunningham) Roush.
On June 7, 1946, in Pomeroy, Ohio, she was married
to Aaron D. Grady, who preceded her in death November 10, 1997.
For 7 years, she worked as an equipment handler at the Co-Rec for Purdue University. She enjoyed collecting Mickey Mouse items in addition to playing card games, doing puzzles and watching football and NASCAR.
Surviving are four sons, Earl (Cathie) Grady, of Brookston, Floyd Grady, of Lafayette, Keith (Sarah) Grady, of Rossville, and James Grady, Columbus; five daughters, Orvilla (James) Helms, Delphi, IN, Anita Jenkins, Alabama, Kathleen (Stan) Roberts and Regina Grady (fiance: George Bolden), all of Lafayette, and Melissa Hall, of West Lafayette; 3 sisters, Eileen Foreman, Laurane, Ohio, Verla Harrah, Mason, WV and Marlene Fields, Harfort, WV; five brothers, Oscar Roush, Mason, WV, Arnold Roush (Mary) Louisiana, Edwin (Jane) Roush, of LeTart, WV, Blaine (Janice) Roush, Florida, and Randle (Judy) Roush, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Jessie Roush, Jr. and one sister, Neva Clark.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6pm, Friday, March 5th at Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel. Friends and Family will be received from 4 to 6 pm.
Grace Catharine Rice Smith

Former Logansport resident Grace Catharine Rice Smith, age 86, of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away at 4:55 a.m. today, March 2, 2010, in Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills.
Born on September 10, 1923, in Logansport, she was the daughter of John Earl and Lulu Kroft. On December 25, 1941, she married
Charles Richard Rice who preceded her in death in 1986. In March of 1991, she married
Rev. Ellis Smith, who survives in Zephryhills, Florida.
Ms. Smith worked at Columbia Elementary School as a Teachers’ Assistant for 4 years, before returning to school. She earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in elementary education from Indiana University, Kokomo Campus. Ms. Smith taught third grade at Caston Elementary School for 19 years, before retiring to Zephyrhills, Florida.
While living in Logansport, Ms. Smith was an active member of the Third Street Evangelical United Brethren Church and later, the Helm Street Church of God where she enjoyed participating in the music program at each of those churches.
Surviving with her husband are three daughters: Susan Catharine Taylor (Jack) of Charlotte, Michigan, Saybra Rice Chapman of Ridge Manor, Florida, and Heidi Rice Shriver of Denver, Colorado. She also leaves 5 grandchildren with wonderful memories [John Richard Taylor, (Kim) Sharee Cathleen Burdick (Fred), Shanna Colleen Strader (James), Zachary Paul Chapman (Maria), and Casey Ryan Chapman], and 10 great-grandchildren, as well. Also surviving are 6 step-children and their families.
She was preceded in death by her only son, Richard Kent Rice; and two brothers, Earl and John D. Kroft.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11th, funeral at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Rev.John Aukerman officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hope cemetery, Logansport. Serving as pall bearers are Sharee Burdick, Fred Burdick, Jim Schrader, Aaron Rance, Shanna Steader, Timothy Burdick, James Strader, and John Taylor IV.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10th, and one hour prior to the services on Thursday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions be made to the Eaton County (Michigan) Medical Care Facility where Ms. Smith received such loving and compassionate care." Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
