Christine R. Craig

Christine R. Craig, 40, West Lafayette, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, in Benton County.
Born May 17, 1969, she was the daughter of Cindi Armstrong Riehle and Robert Craig.
Chris loved her family and friends. She loved life itself and had a special fondness for animals. She enjoyed playing Bingo, but most of all, she just loved having fun with her kids.
Surviving with are her mother, Cindi Riehle, of Kokomo; her father and stepmother, Robert and Sharon Craig, of Tennessee; her children, Holli, Ann, Jazzlyn and Randy Travenicek, all of Lafayette;one sister, Kim Craig, Tennessee; four brothers, Patrick (Sandy) Craig, Cary Craig, of Kokomo; Rick Craig and Roger Craig; and her grandmother, Virginia Armstrong, of Logansport.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, in Fisher Funeral Chapel with celebrant Patricia Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in West cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services.

Phillip E. Saunders
September 30, 1920 - November 28, 2009
Phillip E. Saunders, 89 of Logansport, IN, died Saturday, November 28, 2009 in Chase Nursing Center.
Born Sept. 30, 1920, in Grass Creek, Indiana, he was the son of Charles and Eva Douglass Saunders.
On Nov. 21, 1940, in Logansport, he was married
to Grace A. Herron, who preceded him in death May 4, 1978. On July 27, 1979, in Logansport, he was married
to Helen Leazenby Watkins, who preceded him in death Feb. 11, 1985.
Phil was a 1939 graduate of Logansport High School. During WWII, Phil served in the U.S. Army. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart, having been wounded in action in the Phillipines.
Phil had a very strong work ethic and wore "many hats" over the years. A certified locksmith, he owned and operated Saunders Locksmith Service for forty years. Phil had also co-owned Saunders Douglass Trucking for 25 years. From 1953-1971, he owned SouthSide Drug Store Sundries. He had worked for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles as a licensed examiner. Phil had also worked for Donato Sons Motors delivering cars. Prior to retiring, he enjoyed working as a mini-bus driver for the Cass Area Transit.
Phil served two terms as a Cass County Councilman.
Phillip was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a 32nd degree member of Logansport's Tipton Masonic Lodge No. 33. Phil was very proud of his membership with the Murat Shrine and the Logansport Shrine Club and had made over 100 trips transporting children to and from the Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago. He was also a member of both the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite and York Rite and was the recipient of the Legion of Honor. For several years, he served as DeMolay Dad. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 60, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790 and the 40 8. In 1999, he was awarded the "Older Hoosier of the Year" from the State of Indiana.
Surviving are Son, Steven Saunders of Logansport, IN; Daughter, Susan (Jim) Hammond of Walton, IN; Step-son, Greg (Sondra) Watkins of Little Rock, Arkansas; Step-daughter, Lynda Wright, of Logansport, IN; one brother, Carl (Dortha) Saunders, of Logansport; two sisters-in-law Mariannis Saunders, of South Bend, and Jessie(Robert) Wainscott, of North Webster; 11 Grandchildren, Stephanie (Allen) Humerickhouse, Walton, Michelle (Steve) Williams, Walton; Doug (Angela) Coppock, Columbus, GA; Candy (Layne) Hall, Logansport, Phillip (Heather) Hammond, Anoka, Jake Hammond (companion Candice Collins), of Walton, Brian (Noy) Saunders, Pingree Grove, Illinois, James Fred and Laura Smith, both of Logansport, and Seth Watkins and Adam Watkins, both of Little Rock, Arkansas; and eighteen great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Bonnie Stratton, of Logansport.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Cloyde Saunders; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Saunders; granson-in-law, Kevin LoCoco; sister-in-law, Evelyn Conn and her husband Gene, and two brothers-in-law Joe Herron and his wife Patti, and Merl Herron.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, Indiana where a Trinity Lutheran Church Council Service will be held at 7 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Shrine Processional.
Services will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, with Pastor Larry DeVos officiating.
Interment, with full military honors, will follow in the Mount Hope cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Shriners Hospital for Children Transportation Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral chapel.
Juanita L. Wysong
September 29, 1915 - November 17, 2009
Juanita L. Wysong, 94, Logansport, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1915, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Harvey L. and Bessie Taylor Berryman. On August 4, 1951, in Lafayette, she was married
to Howard W. Wysong, who preceded her in death March 22, 1985.
Juanita was a 1933 graduate of Logansport High School. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, playing piano for the school choir and orchestra and accompanying the Young People's Christian Union Choir for several years after graduation. When WSAL was a brand-new radio station in 1949, Juanita was its first staff pianist, playing on live broadcasts. She was also the accompanist for the Purdue Cass County Extension Homemakers Chorus for over 30 years. In earlier years, she had taught piano lessons in her home. Juanita had played for numerous weddings and funerals throughout the Logansport area.
The congregation of the Helm Street Church of God in Logansport has been blessed and inspired by Juanita's beautiful piano and organ music since she was 16 years old. She and her sisters, known as the Berryman Trio, sang together for many years at church and community events. In 1987, the Helm Street Church of God declared a special day "Juanita Wysong Day" in honor of her service to the church. Juanita, a homemaker, could have "gone professional" with her music, but decided that path might have led her away from the life of the church, and she could not allow that to happen. So, she remained faithful to the Lord, using her talents for His glory all her life long.
She is survived by one son, John H. Wysong (Missy Hatten), of Logansport; one daughter, Lou Ann (Daryl)Myran, of Greenfield; two sisters, Alyce L. Murray and Donna J. Cotner, both of Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, in the Helm Street Church of God with Revs. Dean Snyder and Dellmus Hall officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, in Fisher Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the services in the church.
Interment will be in St. John's cemetery, Clymers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Helm Street Church of God building fund.
Ina M. Shepherd
February 19, 1916 - December 02, 2009
Ina M. (Caldwell)Shepherd, 93, Logansport, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, in Miller's Merry Manor.
Born Feb. 19, 1916, in Union City, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Charles and Sadie Anderson Caldwell. Her first marriage was to Harold Guldenstein of Detroit, Michigan. He preceded her in death. On Sept. 15, 1964, in Corinth, Mississippi, she was married
to Peter M. Shepherd, who preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1973.
She was a graduate of Dixie High School in Union City, TN and a graduate of the Memphis Business School in Memphis, Tennessee.
She is survived by one niece, Dorothy Mitchell, of Florida; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, T.W. Caldwell and Wade Caldwell; and three sisters, Lela Caldwell, Charlene Caldwell and Molene McDaniel.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, in Fisher Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Hope cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Miller's Merry Manor Activity Fund.
Dr. Herbert (Bert) Dearden
January 28, 1917 - December 05, 2009
Dr. Herbert (Bert) Dearden, 92, was peacefully escorted through the portals of heaven to be with Jesus, his Lord and Saviour on Dec. 5, 2009. Dr. Dearden, was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Lancashire, England, and served in the British Royal Navy from 1936 until after WWII. “Ping, ” (Bert’s nickname) survived 2 ship sinkings, rescue operations at Dunkirk, and the Normandy invasion. Bert was at the helm of the carrier “INDEFATIGABLE” as she steamed into Tokyo Bay for the Japanese Surrender; later becoming a sea captain and certified Master Mariner.
A rum-drinking seaman in every ocean save the Antarctic, Bert was converted to Christ. Bert visited logging camps, First Nations’ Villages and isolated missionary settlements, preaching from the northern coast of British Columbia, Canada, to the Alaska pan-handle. Bert also served the United Church of Canada, in Vancover, attended the Talmud Torah, was active with the Gideons, and Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship.
In 1968, he submitted his thesis on “Jesus in Hebrews” and was awarded a doctorate. Dr. Bert Dearden served as Evangelist, Expositor, Lecturer, Seminarian, and conference speaker in England, Canada, the USA and Mexico. Well-respected as a “Jesus Man”, preaching “the half that works, ” his life exuded the grace of God. He was a life-long scholar, and author of several books and Bible Studies. His life was at peace, because his heart trusted Jesus.
Bert loved to sing opera in 5 languages – he enjoyed the classics and often recited Shakespeare, English history, and poetry. His charming British accent captivated his audiences with personal story-telling exploits to Bible revelations. Bert was an inspirational speaker to Veterans groups and a member of the Howard Co. Vietnam Veterans. He enjoyed eating ice cream while watching Tom and Jerry cartoons and solving challenging crosswords.
Bert will be sorely missed by his loving wife, Connie Jones Prince. Bert and Connie were married
at Bethel Temple Church, in 1992. He was a dedicated father to daughters Vallerie (Faust Pinto) Dearden, BC, Canada, Karia Dearden, WA, and involved grandfather to Dean (Rose) Mc Gee of Canada.
Bert and Connie were blessed by his second family, who loved and respected Bert immensely. Their children “our girl” Sylvia (Bernie) Loner, of Logansport, Yvonne Wagner and family, and William (Kim) Prince. Bert was blessed with many grand and great-grandchildren, including local teachers, Fauleen Lucero and Julien Miller.
A “Celebration of Life” will be 10:30 am Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Fisher Funeral Chapel with eulogy by Bishop Samuel Smith, Evansville IN. Other participating ministers: Bishop Richard Humphreys, Bishop Joe Bulger, Pastor Phil Frye, Pastor Jack Greenwood, Pastor Mike De Brun, and Pastor Walt Hollis. Interment, with military honors, will be at Ever-Rest Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at the funeral home.
William Kelly Todd
July 27, 1964 - January 02, 2010
William Kelly Todd, 45 of Logansport, passed away unexpectedly at 1:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010.
Born July 27, 1964, in Logansport, he was the son of Rheta Snyder Todd and the late Robert G. Todd.
A graduate of Logansport High School, Kelly had worked for the family business at Todd's Appliances for many years.
Kelly loved the out-of-doors, especially camping, fishing and a good round of golf. Kelly was a great friend with a big heart. He always put his family and friends before himself.
Surviving are his mother, Rheta Todd of Logansport; his companion, Tammy Skipton, of Logansport; one son, Brett Rush, of Logansport; one grandson, Blaine Rush, of Logansport, Sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Richard Tuttle of Walton, IN; and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Robert L. Todd; his grandparents Ralph and Gladys Todd.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2009, in Fisher Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Ken Smith officiating.
Interment will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2009 until the time of services at the funeral chapel.

Martha Anne Spangler
December 14, 1927 - May 17, 2008
Martha Anne Spangler, 80 of Logansport, IN, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 in Miller's Merry Manor, Logansport.
Born December 14, 1927, in Carroll County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Fred P. and Dorothea M. Flora Blue. On April 18, 1946, in her parent's home near Wheeling, Indiana, she was married
to Quincie E. "Amos" Spangler, who survives.
A 1945 graduate of Carrollton High School, she worked as a waitress in her teen years. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator. She had also worked at the H.W. Gossard Company as a seamstress and the Logansport Memorial Hospital in central supply.
A homemaker, Mrs. Spangler was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church until her health declined in recent years.
Mrs. Spangler enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and oil painting. She also enjoyed gardening, especially caring for her flowers. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother - she was always there for her family and friends. She was known for her bright, sparkling eyes, her warm smile and her delightful sense of humor.
Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Becky Anne Crary and her husband Vince, of New York Mills, MN; 2 Sons, Thomas L. Spangler and his wife Carol, and Timothy E. Spangler and his wife Dawn, all of Logansport, IN; 2 Brothers, Jerry L. Blue and his wife Mary, of Cutler, IN, and Fred D. Blue and his wife Janis, of Bennett Switch, IN; 6 Grandchildren, Burt Crary and his wife Sheila, of Alexandria, MN, Jennifer Kotaska and her husband Jon, of New York Mills, MN, Melisa Parish and her husband Eric, of Minneapolis, MN, Jason Carmin and and his wife Tina, of DeMotte, IN, Tylon Spangler and his wife Julie of Westfield, IN, Sarah Spangler and her husband Marco of Frankfort, IN; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Vera Spangler; and two brothers-in-law, David Spangler and Daniel Spangler.

Services will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow in the Hopewell cemetery, Deer Creek, Indiana.
Catherine Zembower
January 30, 1946 - February 22, 2010
Catherine Sherry Zembower, 64 of Otterbein, IN, formerly of Logansport, passed away at 3:00 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2010, in her daughter and son-in-law's residence.
Born January 30, 1946 in Geneva, Ohio, she was the daughter of Cecil and Mildred Swank. She was married
to Garry L. Zembower, Sr. on August 5, 1971, in Fairport, Ohio.
Catherine attended the Charity Baptist Church in Lafayette. She enjoyed crafts, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She had a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers which she used to make beautiful arrangements.
Surviving with her husband, 3 Sons, Garry Zembower Jr. of Lafayette, William (Melissa) Lee, of Logansport, and Michael Pease of Goshen, ; Daughter, Cynthia (Jason) Pease Jennings of Otterbein; 6 Grandchildren, Jaron Jennings, Justin Cogswell, Natasha Conklin, Cass Solomon, Timothy Irwin, and Kimberly Irwin.
She was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence Pease, two grandchildren, Schyler Patrick and Tristin Tate Jennings; three brothers, and one sister.
Friends will be received 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, Indiana.
Services will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Friday, February 26, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Matt Sims officiating.
Interment will follow in the Ever Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.
Lorean "Tot" Lane
October 08, 1922 - February 20, 2010
Lorean "Tot" Lane, 87, of Lafayette passed away at 9:08 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.
Born October, 8, 1922, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Zelda E. (Rhodes) Hawks. She was married
to Bud Lane for thirty-eight years. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Lane owned and operated a restaurant. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by one son, Gilbert (Gloria) Jarrard, of Crawfordsville; one sister, Doris Paddle, of Lafayette; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a grandchild.
