RUTH E. BUZZIRD, 83, Danville, died April 21.
She was the Cafeteria Manager for Mars Hill and Stout Field Elementary Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Valley Mills Christian Church.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, April 25, at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Decatur Township, with visitation from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
She is the widow of William P. Buzzird. She is the beloved mother of Nonda (Larry) Gerking and Donna (David) Scott; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sister of Laura Kugelman. She was preceded in death by her brother Ernest 'Bud' Unsel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

MARY ELLEN RILEY PERDIEW, age 64, of Indianapolis, died August 10, 2003.
Born August 1, 1939 in Indianapolis, she is survived by her husband James E. Perdiew, daughter Cathy A. Fisher, and son, Michael V. Perdiew, 3 grandchildren, and one sister, Cathi Billups. Preceded in death by a sister, Sheila Pigg.
She was in the floral business for 23 years, where as a floral designer she won several awards. Most recently she was manager of Floral Fashions with Marsh.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, August 14, 2003 at Legacy Funeral Alternatives at Memorial Park; friends may call on Wednesday, 3 to 8 p.m.
Burial in Memorial Park cemetery.

Mrs. Pauline Helen Shields
Mrs. Pauline Helen Shields, 84, of Seymour, passed away at 10:07 PM, Thursday, October 13th, 1008 at Jennings Health Care Campus, North Vernon, IN.
Pauline was born in Decatur County, IN on February 15, 1924, the daughter of the late Edward and Ethel (Kehrt) Bannister.
She was the widow of Willis "Shorty" Shields, whom she married
July 1st, 1953 in Seymour.
She Retired from Muscatatuck State School.
Pauline is survived by: two sons Charles Edward (Violet) Gudgel, Curtis (Beverly) Gudgel a brother, Delbert Bannister, 11-grand, several great and great great grand children, 1-niece and several nephews.
Preceded in death by: Parents, Husband, 1-son: Duane Gudgel and 1-brother: Wayne Bannister
Membership includes: Oak Grove Ladies Aid, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1925 and she cared for many foster children for over 11 years "56 children"
Funeral Service will be at Voss Chapel, Seymour, IN, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 17th, with Rev. Bill Weaver officiating.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel on Thursday 4-7pm and Friday after 12:30 p.m. until time of service .
Burial will follow at Reddington cemetery Seymour, IN.
Memorials may be written to Reddington cemetery Association.

OVAL “JOHN” FOSTER, 78, Whitestown, died Aug. 10, 2003.
He was born Nov. 17, 1924 in Belva, West Virginia.
John and wife Jere were owners of Speedway Trophy Center from 1973 to 2000. He was also a heavy equipment mechanic for Citizens Gas and Coke Utility for 25 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Foster was a Marine veteran of World War II.
He was a member of New Hope Christian Church. Whitestown and licensed pilot for 45 years and a member of A.O.P.A. Pilots Association.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thurs. Aug 14 in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center – Speedway, with calling from 2 to 8 p.m. Wed. Aug. 13
Entombment will be in Washington Park North cemetery.
Survivors include wife Jereline (Lewis) Foster.
He was the youngest and last of nine children.

RAYBURN BARNETT, 74, Indianapolis, died August 7, 2003.
Mr. Barnett was a Master Mechanic for Reid & Holcomb for 24 years, retiring in 1990. Prior to Reid & Holcomb, Mr. Barnett worked for Hygrade Foods as a forklift operator. Mr. Barnett was a member of Capitol City Conservation Club and was past president of Glenn's Valley Conservation Club.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday, August 11, 2003, at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center -- Decatur Township at 11 a.m. Visitation will be Sunday, August 10, 2003, 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral center. Interment will be in Floral Park cemetery.
Survivors include his beloved wife Christeen (Cardwell) Barnett, to whom he has been married
since 1946. Mr. Barnett also has four children surviving him -- John, Ronald, Bob Barnett and Debbie Hanks. Two of Mr. Barnett's children have predeceased him -- Daniel and Wayne Barnett. Mr. Barnett has two sisters Vonnie Johnson and Barbara Barnett and one brother Jim Barnett surviving. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Albert F. "Van" VanSlyke 61, Indianapolis, passed away on August 8, 2003.
He was born October 24, 1941 to Katherine Smith in Indianapolis. He was the third of five children. Van was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army. He served for the Marion County Sheriffs Department for 27 years. Van enjoyed life and was a member of several organizations which include the Moose Lodge, VFW, Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis Club and the Democratic Club. His love was for woodworking, dancing and his family.
He is survived by his wife, Paula; daughter Dawn; sons, Michael, Matthew and Marc; 4 grandchildren; mother, Katherine; brothers, Butch Hedrick and William Van Slyke; sisters, Katherine Stacey and Myrtle Cook; step-children, Dana G. and Stephen Weinke; and 4 step-grandchildren.
Services: 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Lawrence with calling from 4 to 9 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2003 with additional calling on hour prior to services on Tuesday.
He will be laid to rest next to the Mother of his children, Nancy Marie VanSlyke at Washington Park East cemetery.
