Nancy B. Craver

Nancy Bessie Craver of Gosport passed away at IU Health, Bloomington Hospital on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the age of 73.
Nancy was born on March 10, 1938 in Sandy Hook, Kentucky to Clark and Susan (Sayler) Smith. She was married to Paul Craver in November of 1979. Nancy was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was a member and Past President of the Indiana Homemakers Extension Club of Owen County.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Paul Craver of Gosport; children, Fred Burns of Ft. Myers, FL, Gordon Burns of Orlando, FL, Janet Hayes of Indianapolis, George Burns of Seattle, WA, Bradley Burns of Noblesville, and Susan Cook of Greenwood; fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and sister, Gracie Dingus of Wise, VA.
Funeral services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home-Whitaker Chapel in Gosport on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Gosport cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 until time of services at the funeral home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Harrison Homemakers of Owen County, 10950 Jones Road Quincy, IN 47456

Robert Lee Pless

The family of Robert Lee Pless mourns his passing. Born October 7, 1929 in Monroe County to Francis Herbert Pless and Emily Ellen Stancomb Pless. Entered into rest March 11, 2008 at the Waters of Greencastle Convalescent Center, surrounded by loving family.
His memory will be cherished by wife, Nina Evans Pless; children, Thomas “Tom” Pless, Paul “Chris” Pless, both of Spencer; siblings, Carrie Kiser, Ellettsville, William Delbert Pless, Lafayette; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Tristan, Kayla, and Jamee Pless, all of Spencer; daughters-in-law, Lora and Jennifer Pless, Spencer; many nieces and nephews.
He will be reunited in the presence of our Heavenly Father with both parents; son, Robert Steven Pless; siblings, Dorothy Gilson, Catherine Robertson, Dora May, Eula Campbell, Eva Marie Pless, Sarah Pless, John Herbert Pless, George Vernon Pless.
Robert served his country honorably in the US Army during World War II and was a member of the Spencer Church of Christ.
He was a meat cutter at Bloomington Packing House, constructed buildings on the IU Campus, worked at Franklin Manufacturing and Studebaker Corp. (now G.E.); diamond sawyer at Bybee Stone and McNeely’s Stone mills, and retired from Owen County Farm Bureau in 1991.
Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Tuesday March 14, 2008 at Spencer Church of Christ, 720 East Morgan Street, with Brother Gary Fiscus officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 at the church, and one hour prior to service Tuesday at the church.
Interment immediately following the funeral in the family plot of Hudson Hill cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by the Honor Guard, VFW Post 1405 and American Legion Post 285 of Spencer.

Guy A. Stewart

Guy A. Stewart, 81, of Anderson, formerly of Gosport died on Friday, August 12, 2011 at St. Johns Hospital in Anderson.
He was born on March 16, 1930 in Indianapolis to Guy and Eva Stewart. He proudly served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Guy worked as a millwright at Castleton Lumber and after working there for many years he became self employed. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW posts in both Anderson and Gosport. Guy was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 54 years, Patricia Stewart (March 2010)
Guy is survived by his daughter, Linda Farrow and her husband Al of Brownsburg; son, Stacy Stewart and his wife Pamela of Anderson; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Gosport cemetery on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Steve Baker officiating. Chandler Funeral Home-Whitaker Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

Joyce B. Adams

Joyce Adams died peacefully Monday, March 10, 2008 at Bell Trace Assisted Living Center. Poet, teacher, translator and librarian, she was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and grew up in Arlington, Virginia. She lived in many other regions of the United States as well as eastern and western Europe. After graduating from Oberlin College in Ohio, she spent three years studying in Heidelberg, Germany, where she gained certification as a translator. On her return to the U.S. she received a Ph.D. in German from the University of Chicago, her specialty being Medieval Literature. She subsequently taught German at St Xavier’s College, Chicago. From 1966 until 1974 she and her husband lived in New Haven, Connecticut, where she earned an M.S. in teaching English as a second language. He was a Professor of Russian History, and in 1968 they spent an academic year in Moscow where she became fluent in Russian. She revisited Russia in 1973, spending six months there with her husband and son. The family lived for several years in Davis, California. She subsequently spent a year in Bulgaria on a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship.

Joyce moved to Bloomington and subsequently pursued a degree in Library Science. Beginning in1997 she served as head librarian at South Arkansas Community College in El Dorado. Upon her retirement she returned to Bloomington, a place that she was very fond of. Here she did some part-time work teaching writing at Ivy Tech Community College. She was drawn back to Bloomington as a place where she had many beloved friends especially at Bloomington Friends Meeting and in literary circles.

Joyce became a member of Bloomington’s Five Women Poets, published two poetry chapbooks and enriched our lives with readings from her poetry that reflected her spirituality, her enjoyment of nature, and her belief in peace and reconciliation.
A committed and active Quaker, she gave wonderful service to the local meeting especially as the archivist and head of the library committee. Her courageous struggle with her debilitating illness, her faithfulness, and her ongoing search for spiritual pathways enriched the lives of the many who visited her. She is survived by her son Daniel Crummey of Fairfield, CA, and a wide family of friends. She will be greatly missed.
Memorial gifts can be donated to the charity or cause of choice.

Joseph Victor Stowinsky

The family of Joseph Victor Stowinsky mourns his passing. Born February 6, 1943 at Fort Smith, Arkansas to Alexander Samuel Stowinsky and Janet Louise Witte Stowinsky. Entered into rest March 7, 2008 at Owen Valley Health Campus, Spencer, Indiana, surrounded by loving family.
His memory will be cherished by wife, Glenda Sue Stowinsky; children, Tammy Stowinsky, Susan (Randy) Wrightsman, Sheila (Louis) Marion, Sharon (Bradley) Fields; siblings, Shirley Langley, Herb Kramer, Barbara Anderson, Charlie Ward, Thomas Ward, Helen Boggs, Mary Frazier, Donna Ward, Billy Ward, David Ward; grandchildren, Ryan Stowinsky, Brendan Caroline, Brandi Rotino, Vanessa and Nicholas Wrightsman, Joey, Justin, and Jessica Riley, Savannah and Jenna Marion; great-grandchild Valiant Hauk.
He is reunited in the presence of our Heavenly Father with both parents, siblings, Jim Kramer, Donnie Ward; grandchildren, Ashley Stowinsky, Joshua Riley.
Funeral service will be conducted 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 from his residence, 591 West Phillips Road, Spencer, with Pastor Greg Weaver officiating. The public is invited to the residence for visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Graveside service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Wednesday March 12, 2008 at the family plot of Fairview cemetery, Bowling Green, Indiana.

Karen I. Heidenreich

Karen Ilene McPeek Heidenreich passed away unexpectedly at her home on MondayFebruary 21, 2011 at the age of 43.
She was a long time resident of Monroe County. Karen was born in Indianapolis onOctober 2, 1967, She was the daughter of Linda (Carter)and Bernie McPeek (deceased) bothofIndianapolis. She was a graduate of Edgewood High School in Ellettsville, Indiana.
She was married to William Heidenreich for 26 years.
Karen is survived by her husband, William Heidenreich, of Bloomington; mother, Linda Carter McPeek; children, Daniel and wife Martha and a new born on the way; daughter, Angela and fiance Michael Seiverling and an 8 month old granddaughter, Mackenzi; brother, Joe McPeek and wife Donna and sisters, Pam Harley and husband Rodney and Beth Carter.
Karen is remembered for her loving and kind spirit, her love of animals and her fascination of Unicorns. She will be dearly missed by those who loved her.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 24, 2011at 2:00 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville. Visitation will be from 11 until 2 at the funeral home. Her body will be cremated and her remains will be placed privately by her family.

Takoda Scott Beck

Brandyn Takoda Scott Beck, 10, of Solsberry, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at his residence. Born Aug. 10, 1997, in Bloomington, he was the son of Scott Beck and Lori (Pate) Lawson. He was a student.
Survivors include his mother, Lori Lawson of Solsberry; his father, Scott Beck of Bloomington; two sisters, Stacey Lawson of Solsberry and Shaina Vincent and husband Joe of Bloomington; maternal grandmother Joyce Pate of Solsberry; paternal grandparents Byron and Donna Beck of Bloomington; one niece, Lilly Lawson of Bloomington; two nephews, Jude Vincent and Calvin Vincent, both of Bloomington; three aunts, Kathy Mitchell of Solsberry, Jo Eads of Shelbyville and Angie Campbell of Ellettsville; five uncles, David Eads and Steve Pate, both of Solsberry, Buddy Pate of Bloomington, Jerry Pate of Bloomfield, and Jason Campbell of Ellettsville; and cousins, Brandon and Ashley Mitchell, Travis Pate, Justin and Kyle Eads and Misty and Levi Williams, all of Solsberry, Michael and Matt Pate of Bloomfield, Tyler Andis of Bloomington, and Stephanie and Seth Campbell of Ellettsville.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leon Pate; and great-grandparents Myrtle Griffin, William and Geneva Young, and Harvey and Mabel Beck.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Solsberry Christian Church, with Byron Williams and Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Newark cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until services Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brandyn Takoda Scott Beck Fund, c/o Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, 101 W. Kirkwood Avenue, Suite 321, Bloomington, IN 47404.
The family would like to thank Harley-Davidson of Bloomington for the many donations to Brandyn during his illness.

William Joseph Moore

The family of William Joseph Moore mourns his passing. Born October 7, 1942 at Terre Haute, Indiana to Lofton Morgan Moore and Mary M. Riley Moore. Entered into rest March 2, 2008 at St. Vincent’s Hospital of Brazil, Indiana.
His memory will be cherished by wife, Victoria Dufour Moore; son, Terrence William (Holly) Moore of Henderson, Nevada; granddaughter, Mindy Marie Moore; niece, Colleen Riley; nephews, Ian Hartsock, Michael Stephenson; a large extended family sometimes referred to as the “outlaws.”
He is reunited in the presence of our Heavenly Father with both parents; siblings, Mary Virginia Stephenson, Kathleen Hartsock, Tommy Moore.
Bill enjoyed reading, hunting, traveling, love of the land and a simple life. A man strong in mind, body, and spirit, with a deep sense of independence and a deeper love for his wife and their farm. He worked for Merchants Freight, Conrail 20 years, and was a beef cow/calf operation owner since 1969.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 5:00 p.m. Thursday March 6, 2008 at St. Jude Catholic Church of Spencer, Indiana by the Reverend Father Paul M. Dede, pastor of St. Jude Parish. Friends may call upon the family from 3:00 p.m. Thursday until the time of Mass at the church. Interment to take place in a private family ceremony.
Memorial contributions in honor of William may be directed to the Owen Community Foundation, Jefferson Township Fund: St. Jude Church Fund. Envelopes will be provided at the church.

Deborah Joy Doyle

The family of Deborah Joy (Franklin) Doyle mourns her passing. Born July 5, 1961 at Greencastle, Indiana to Orrie Franklin, Jr. and Rosemarie (Woods) Franklin. Entered into rest February 8, 2008 at home in Spencer.

Her memory will be cherished by husband, John Doyle; children, Ryan Doyle and wife Kelly, Joshua Doyle, Logan Doyle; grandchild, Olivia Doyle; father, Orrie Franklin, Jr.; siblings, Cindy Sanders, Carrie Schenk, David Franklin.

She is reunited in the presence of our Heavenly Father with mother, Rosemarie (Woods) Franklin.

A celebration of life service will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, Spencer, Indiana.

Naomi Rogers

The family of Naomi Rogers mourns her passing. Born July 30, 1925 at Monroe County to Oscar Eads and Mary Ann Deckard Eads. Entered into rest February 6, 2008 at home surrounded by loving family.

Her memory will be cherished by husband, Wayne Rogers, married April 24, 1943; children, Marvella Hollars and husband David; Delmas Rogers and wife Wanda; brother, Melvin Eads.

Naomi worshipped at the Burgoon Baptist Church and her faith will be carried on by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is reunited in the presence of our Heavenly Father with both parents; siblings, Imogene Eads; Corrine Eads Roberts; Leonia Eads Frye; Omain Eads; Vachel Eads; Willard Eads.

Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Burgoon Baptist Church, 8598 East Burgoon Road, Bloomington, Indiana, with Pastor Harold Godsey officiating. Friends may call upon the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment to follow in the family plot of Allens Creek cemetery.

The family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion of Bloomington Hospital Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Victor Larimer

Victor Larimer entered into peaceful rest on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Bloomington Hospital with his caring family at his side. He was born to Arthur and Lily (Cejnar) Larimer in Chicago and grew up with his sister and five brothers.

The family moved to the Solsberry and Bloomington area where Victor attended Solsberry High School. He married Betty Stalcup on July 3, 1960 and together they started a family. Their children are: Alexia Larimer Bock & husband Robert; Angela Larimer Delgado& husband Ron; Preston Larimer & wife Melissa; eleven grandchildren, Crystal Bock Unger & husband, Daniel of Wabash; Robert A. Bock of Tennessee; Nicholas, Richard, & Carter Larimer; Robert Dodds of N. Carolina, James Dodds, Stefanie Delgado, Marlon Delgado, and Farrah Wheeler & husband Tyson, all of Connecticut; and two great-grandchildren Tyson & Tiara Wheeler of Connecticut. Also survived by siblings, David & Miyako Larimer of Solsberry; Charles Larimer of Texas; John & Joy Larimer of Great Britain; mother-in law, Mary Stalcup; a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted church family and friends.
Victor served his country honorably in the US Air Force, and as a security officer for Indiana University. With Betty, they started their own commercial cleaning business. He returned to school and became certified in heating & cooling, beginning his next career.

He is reunited in the presence of our Heavenly Father with both parents; siblings, Clifford, Gene, and Nancy Larimer; grandchild, Debra-Ann Dodds; father-in-law, Charles Stalcup.

Funeral Service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at McCormicks Creek United Pentecostal Church, 3138 East SR 46, Spencer, IN with pastor Rick Robertson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will take place in a private family service. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Spencer Post 285 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Spencer Post 1405 Honor Guard. Nathan Butler Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
