Jessie Faustina Hammond Tanner, 89, of Sumpter Trail died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Keepsake Village.
Mrs. Tanner was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Born in Jennings County April 1, 1919, Mrs. Tanner was the daughter of Mark A. and Elizabeth Ferrenburg Hammond. She married
John Wesley Tanner Dec. 15, 1937. He preceded her in death June 17, 2000.
Surviving are daughters, Patricia A. (William) McKale of Columbus and Bettyrose (Don) Mundy of Colorado; sisters, Pauletta Wilds, Jeanette Tellman and Betty Schooler, all of Columbus, and Rosemary Gaier of California; grandchildren, Kelli Pitman, Lorie Holban, Kristi Fredericks, Lisa Curry, Jackie Fukey and Nina Stevens; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Larry L. Tanner; and a brother, Paul Hammond.
FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Styron Jr. officiating.
VISITATION: 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
BURIAL: Garland Brook cemetery.
MEMORIALS: Alzheimer’s Association or the donor’s choice of charities.

MaRita Dannielle Lockride Whitehead, 31, of Columbus died at 1:07 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008, at University of Louisville Hospital.
Survivors include her father, Ronald Wayne Whitehead of Cincinnati; her stepfather(Dad), Paul Allen Lockridge Sr. of Columbus; her mother Jeanette Lynn Alexander Lockridge of Columbus; a special companion, Jill Faulkner, a stepdaughter, Summer Faulkner, a brother, James Wayne Whitehead of Seattle, WA; stepbrothers, Paul Allen Lockridge Jr. and Gary Lee Lockridge, both of Shelbyville; and a stepsister, Rose Mary (Thomas) Goeft of Holton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews especially a special nephew Michael Allen Lee Hall.
She was preceded in death by her brother Robert John Whitehead.
FUNERAL: 10:30 a.m. Thursday; August 7, 2008 at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Orville Turner officiating.
VISITATION: 4-8 p.m. Wednesday; August 6, 2008 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Wilma E. Combest
October 15, 1924 - September 17, 2006
Wilma E. Combest, 81, of Eighth Street, Columbus, Ind., died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 at her home.
Wilma lived her early life in Columbia, Ky. before moving to Columbus, Ind. in 1964. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and playing bingo. Wilma was of Methodist faith.
Mr. Combest was born October 15, 1924 in Columbia, Ky., the daughter of James Burton and Zora Burns Burton. She married
Bill P. Combest in 1947.
Survivors include sons, Jackie (Jerry) Combest and Billy Joe (Barbara) Combest, both of Columbus, Ind.; daughters, Linda (Winfred “Putt”) Barnsfather, Diane (Dale) Shuffitt and Paula (Dale) Hayford, all of Columbus, and Sheila (Mike) Bowling of Brown County; grandchildren, Tina (John) Stephens, Shawn (Brandi) Combest, Scott (Jennifer) Combest, Melissa (Brad) Little, Toby (Heather) Combest, Travis Combest, Megan (Frank) Rains, Michelle (Greg) Davidson, Lisa Hayford, Jamey Combest, Shane (Jenni) Combest and Erica Bowling; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rissie Burton of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

VISITATION: 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and also from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Robert Bruce Low
July 09, 1952 - August 11, 2008
Robert Bruce Low, 56, of Road 325E died at 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Low loved God with all his heart. He loved spending time outdoors fishing and hunting with friends. Throughout his life, athletics were very important to him and he supported both his children in their many athletic endeavors.
He also was passionately involved with his community, working with youth in sports and Boy Scouts. He was a loving father who was very proud of both his children’s accomplishments. He was proud to be an American and leaves a legacy of community involvement and a rich Christian heritage.
Born at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., July 9, 1952, Mr. Low was the son of the late Robert Leroy Low and Grace G. Starks Low Davidson of Indianapolis. He married
Lorraine C. Muirhead Jan. 12, 1974. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Robert William Low of Columbus; a daughter, Amanda Grace (Ben Breedlove) Low of Oakland, Calif.; stepmother, Joyce Low of Greenfield; brothers, Gregg Low of Indianapolis, Robert Jack and Christopher Low, both of Greenfield, and Rick Davidson of Indianapolis; and sisters, Debra (Marcus) Jordan of Indianapolis, Teresa (Joe) Harvey of Greenfield and Pamela (Chris) Wilson of McCordsville.
He was preceded in death by his father.
FUNERAL: A private family service will be held in Bloomington with Joel Tieman officiating.

Morris Clayton Huffman
September 03, 1930 - January 21, 2009
Morris Clayton Huffman, 78, of Columbus died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Huffman had been a life long farmer and was a member of Elizabethtown United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a loyal patron at several local restaurants and coffee shops.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding motorcycles throughout his life and racing go-carts when he was younger.
He never missed attending his grandchildren’s functions.
Born in Bartholomew County Sept. 3, 1930, Mr. Huffman was the son of Zack and Ethel Muir Huffman. He married
Phyllis Thias Nov. 25, 1951.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Stephen L. (Barb) Huffman of Columbus and Gary J. (Christine) Huffman of Columbus; grandchildren, Evan (Stacy) Huffman, Derek Huffman, Megan (Kevin) Bozell, Lindsay Huffman and Grant Huffman; and one great-grandson, Jacob Stephen Huffman.
VISITATION: Friday, January 23, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Jewell - Rittman Family Funeral Home and also Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
FUNERAL: Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Lonny Goen officiating.
BURIAL: Garland Brook cemetery

Betty Joan Cookson

Betty Joan Hall Cookson, 74, of 28th Street died at 7:58 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Cookson was part owner of the Holiday House, was the first person to own the post office branch in Holiday Center, owned Vogue Beauty Salon for 20 years and, for the last several years, was employed at Sally Beauty Supply.
She attended school in Columbus, was a member of American Business Women’s Association and attended Community Church of Columbus. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and sports, especially racing.
Born in Westport Feb. 16, 1934, Mrs. Cookson was the daughter of John and Mabel J. Mourey Hall. She married
Billy G. Cookson April 15, 1952. He preceded her in death Oct. 9, 1997.
She is survived by a son, Jeffery Cookson of Columbus; daughters, Sheryl Baker of Columbus and Diana “Dee” (Kenneth) Shafer of Columbus; a brother, John R. (Barbara) Hall of Fort Wayne; a sister, Lucille Vickrey of Decatur, Ill.; grandchildren, Andy (Melinda) Baker, Bradley Baker, Jason (Mindy) Setser, Jennifer Shatto, Christine Hilderbrand and Charles Hilderbrand; and great-grandchildren, Johnathon, Ethan, Ashton, Lydia, Ella, Gunner, Jarret and Taylyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Charles R. Hall and Thomas “Dick” Hall; and sisters, Margaret Holden, Mary Schroeder and Gladys Mole.
VISITATION:Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009 and from noon until service time Friday.
FUNERAL:The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Carrigan officiating.
BURIAL: Burial will be at Garland Brook cemetery.

Marvin Dale Sweeney

Marvin Dale Sweeney, 73, of Columbus, died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, at his daughter’s residence.
Marvin retired from his own construction business. He loved fishing, camping, boating and tending to his garden.
Mr. Sweeney was born April 23, 1933 in Austin, the son of George Arthur and Myrtle Bernice Mitchell Sweeney. He married
Peggy Wooten in January 1956.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth M. Sweeney of Columbus; daughters, Gwinna (Greg) Lanning of Columbus and Lanna D. Bush of Greensburg; grandchildren, Jeremy Goodin, Jimmy (Jennifer) Goodin, Anthony (Amanda) Bush, Nicholas Bush, Nathan Bush and Isaac Lanning; great–grandchildren, Kameron and Kimber Goodin, Dylan and Dakota Goodin and Bradley Bush; and sisters, Marilyn (Ed) Maxwell and Carolyn Sue (Ernest) Geralds, both of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James Wayne Sweeney.
FUNERAL: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Jewell–Rittman Family Funeral Home on 25th Street, with the Rev. Brian Lanning officiating.
VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 1 p.m. to service time Tuesday.
BURIAL: Flatrock Baptist cemetery.
