Marie Guerra, daughter of Robert Guerra and Cora J. Robinson of Brown County, was stillborn at 3:37 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Other survivors include two sisters, Dakota and Madison Robinson of Brown County; grandparents, Verdie Robinson of Seymour, Jennifer New of Indianapolis, Linda Bradley of Columbus and Roy Guerra of Indianapolis; a great-grandmother, Mary Wyatt of Indianapolis; aunts, Roxanne Roth of Hartsville, Cindy May of Jonesville, Elizabeth Robinson of Nickelsville, Ky., Arlena Robinson of Indianapolis, Rachel Robinson of Scipio, Michelle Hamm of Brownsburg, Angela Bay of Nashville and Dawn Ray of Columbus; and an uncle, Fulton Robinson of Seymour.
Marie was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Hewey and Flora Robinson, Charles Wyatt and Toni and Ray Guerra.
FUNERAL: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Bishop Robert Vance officiating.
CALLING: 11:30 a.m. until service time Thursday.
BURIAL: Garland Brook cemetery.
Marie Winiford Garrison
March 15, 1931 - February 22, 2008
Marie Winiford Garrison, 77, of 17th Street died at 4:10 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Garrison had lived most of her life in Columbus, Indiana, but lived her early life in Brown County, Indiana. She worked with her husband in the nursery and produce business for many years. She delighted in her grandchildren and enjoyed reading the local newspaper as well as visiting with friends. She was of Baptist faith.
Mrs. Garrison was born March 15, 1931 in Brown County, Indiana, the daughter of John and Ida Mullis Barger. She married
Jack Garrison October 22, 1956.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Cathy Garrison Olson of Columbus, Ind.; grandchildren, Nathan (Marie) Garrison of Columbus, Ind. and Jessica Lynn Olson of Louisville, Ky.; great-grandchildren, Anaya, Kendall, Cameron and Samantha; and sisters, Lil Brown of Columbus, Ind. and Deloris Wright of Ellettsville, Ind.
Mrs. Garrison was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Guy Barger, Clifford Barger and an infant brother; and a sister, Alfa Black.
FUNERAL: Will be conducted Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. J.C. Brown and Rev. Glenn Poynter officiating.
VISITATION: Will be Monday, February 25, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services.
BURIAL: Will be at Garland Brook cemetery.

Reno T. Haley
November 20, 1993 - May 18, 2010
Reno T. Haley, 16, of Hope, Indiana died at 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at his home.
Reno was a sophomore at Columbus Signature Academy New Tech. He loved anything electronic, including video games. He was quick witted, intelligent, funny, inventive, and had a very creative imagination. He loved his family and was loved dearly by his family.
Born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Nov. 20, 1993, Reno was the son of Jack Haley Jr. of Ponchatoula, La., and Paula McSparrin Haley of Hope, IN.
Other survivors include a sister, Sienna M. Haley of Hope; grandparents, Donald and Roberta McSparrin of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Jack Haley Sr. of Pierce, Idaho; and aunts and uncles, Linda Bartholomew, Susan Robinson, Rachel Woods, Bonnie Pelzee, Lisa McSparrin, Jodi Kayler and Mike Haley.
FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Saturday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
CALLING: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday.
BURIAL: Garland Brook cemetery.

Vernoica Goodpaster Gilliatt

Veronica Goodpaster Gilliatt passed away February 11, 2008 at 10:30 am at Hospice of South Central Indiana, Columbus, IN.
Born February 3, 1951 in Orange County, Indiana, Mrs. Gilliatt was the daughter of Walker and Hallie Goodpaster. She married
Neil Gilliatt on November 27, 1974 in Orange County.
Survivors include her husband, daughter Carrie (Kevin) Emmons, 2 grandchildren, brothers Gary Goodpaster of French Lick, IN, Paul Goodpaster of Millersburg, IN, Blaine Goodpaster of Paoli, IN, Walter Goodpaster of Columbus, IN, and Tim Goodpaster of English, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Thomas Goodpaster.
Mrs. Gilliatt was a homemaker, she enjoyed playing bingo, spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was of the Christian faith.
SERVICES: In accordance with her wishes, cremation is planned and a private memorial service will follow at a later date.
Donald Dale "Chief" Sanders
June 16, 1952 - August 09, 2009
Donald D. “Chief” Sanders, 57, of Russell Springs, Ky., formerly of Elizabethtown, Ind., died at 10:11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Russell Springs.
Mr. Sanders had been employed by Columbus Parks and Recreation Department and when he was younger was a firefighter with the Elizabethtown Volunteer Fire Department.
He loved fishing.
Born in Greensburg, Ind., June 16, 1952, Mr. Sanders was the son of William T. and Flossie Sanders.
He is survived by his mother, of Russell Springs; brothers, Bill D. Sanders of Columbus, Michael E. Sanders of Elizabethtown and Carl W. (Cheryl) Sanders of Elizabethtown; sisters, Carolyn S. (George) Brown of Columbia, Kentucky; Lois G. (Leon) Lewis of Titusville, Florida; Barbara L. Hilton of Columbia, Kentucky; Sherry L. Sanders of Columbus, Indiana; 28 nieces and nephews; and 31 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Ray Gordon Sanders; and two nephews.
FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Connie K. Barr officiating.
VISITATION: 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.
BURIAL: Garland Brook cemetery.

Opal M. Carmichael
June 11, 1920 - September 30, 2009
Opal M. Carmichael, 89, of Columbus died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. Carmichael was a homemaker and was of the Wesleyan faith.
Born June 11, 1920, Mrs. Carmichael was the daughter of George and Velva Wood Brown. She married
Robert T. Carmichael March 24, 1945. He preceded her in death Sept. 29, 2003.
Mrs. Carmichael is survived by sons, Robert B. “Mike” (Linda) Carmichael, Paul R. (Wanda) Carmichael, Stephen W. (Wonda) Carmichael and Mark R. (Mary) Carmichael, all of Columbus; daughters, Janice Carmichael and Joyce Smiley, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Scott (Sheila) Woodruff, Robert Woodruff, Christopher Smiley, Jeremy Carmichael, Kristen (Bryan) Leonard and Shaina Carmichael; and great-grandchildren, Annika and Abigail Woodruff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Virgil, Verle, Curtis and William “Buddy” Brown; and sisters, Bertie Leonard and Alma Lemley.
FUNERAL: A private family service was conducted Monday at Christiansburg cemetery with the Rev. Guy Armstrong officiating.
Doris Jean White
August 13, 1930 - February 20, 2008
Doris Jean White, 77 formerly from Columbus, Indiana, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 after a brief illness in Mesa, AZ.
Born August 13, 1930 in Randolf County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Steward and Edna (Love) Thorn. Jean graduated from Lynn High School in 1948 and married
Robert E. White in August of 1949. Jean and Bob lived most of their adult lives in and around Columbus, Indiana until Bob’s death in 1972, after which she moved to Arizona.
In Arizona Jean worked for CPS Direct Marketing, SkyMall and ManPower before retiring in 1997. Later she enjoyed being a hostess at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater and made many friendships among her ‘guests’ and co-workers.
She is survived by her daughter Bobbi Glover and her husband Byron of Mesa, AZ and two sons Steven White (Rosemary) of Castle Rock, CO and Martin White (Patrice) of Toledo, OH., three grandsons; Sam Glover of Mesa, Jonathan White of Toledo, OH and Alex White of Castle Rock, one granddaughter Amanda of Castle Rock, and one great-grand daughter Jackie also of Castle Rock.
She is also survived by two sisters, Marla and Rita; brothers Richard (Dick) and Larry and many much beloved nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, in addition to Bob, are her brothers Harold and Paul and sisters Betty and Virginia. Her wish to be laid to rest beside her husband at Garland Brook in Columbus will be honored by her children.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date.

Ruth Minor Shorter

Ruth Minor Shorter, 81, of Columbus, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Willow Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center in Columbus, IN.
She was born in Shelbyville, IN, April 9, 1928, the daughter of Forrest and Julia Friday Henderson. She was employed at Cummins Engine Company for 23 years before taking early retirement. She was a member of the OCU.
In her younger years, she was an avid bowler, sometimes on three different leagues at the same time. She loved sewing, crafts, gardening, her many pets, traveling, ballroom dancing and greeting all the customers who came into the Yellow Brick Road to shop. She was so loved and will be sadly missed.
Ruth was married
to Raymond Minor of Columbus in 1947. They were married
25 years. In 1975 she married
Harold Shorter of Mooresville, IN. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Besides her late husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Henderson of Kokomo, IN, and her nephew, Chuck Henderson.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn Bower of Columbus; a stepson, Don (Kriss) Shorter of Spencer, IN; a granddaughter, Nicole (Mel) Woodard of Columbus; a grandson, Grant (Susan) Shorter of Spencer, IN; and three great-grandsons, Jacob, Logan and Johnathan.
FUNERAL: Will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
VISITATION: Will be from noon until service time on Saturday.
